A New Grant, A New Look
The artist Paul Klee is quoted as having said, “A line is a dot that went for a walk.” The beautiful continu-
ous line drawings he created are a testament to this philosophy, filled with seemingly endless playful and grace-
ful meanderings that give shape, form, and unity to his work. While Klee passed on in 1940, his artwork is alive
and vibrant today, a gift to all who come after him, and a continuation of the long line of visual creativity begun
on the walls of caves long ago.
We’re all part of the larger creative line, however, be it through raising a family, writing a story, growing
crops, serving those in need, making art, or any of the sundry ways we each give ourselves to the world. Com-
munity Arts Project believes in the transforming power of creativity and strives to find ways of making opportuni-
ties for artistic discovery and expression available in our community.
To keep our many friends and supporters informed about our programs and events, we are inaugurating
a new line of communication with the publishing of this newsletter. We are indebted to the Juan Young Trust of
Portland for a generous grant to help with this project, for believing in our mission and trusting us to uphold our
end of the continuous line that connects us to you in both word and action. We hope you enjoy it and that you
will join us as we continue to give shape and form to our work.

This newsletter is made possible in large part by a generous grant from the Juan Young Trust.

New Grants Help CAP Build Capacity
This summer, CAP has been honored by the receipt of three grants
from Oregon foundations. As already mentioned on page 1, a Juan Young
Trust grant is enabling the design and production of this new newsletter. That
same grant will assist in the creation of a brochure and a website - all three
much-needed vehicles of communication for CAP.
The Meyer Memorial Trust recently awarded a very generous grant to
CAP for support of the Executive Director’s part-time salary for one year. This
is a great boost as it gives CAP time to develop other funding sources that will
sustain the organization over the long-term.
CAP programs will be acquiring an artwork drying rack and a flat paper

PGE Foundation, funded this year by the Juan Young Trust, and awarded to
local non-profits by students in Nestucca High School’s NVDC class.
CAP wishes to extend warm thanks to all three organizations for their
trust and for their help with these important organization-building grants.
