INDIAN PRAIRIE DISTRICT TROOP 317 TENT AGREEMENT
Your son may be asked to bring home a tent from this campout. We have made a major investment in our tents as they cost approx. $450 each. If
your son brings home a tent he and you must complete the attached cleaning and care list. This must be done the day the tent comes home
because a wet tent, in the bag, will mildew quickly and become very “stinky and moldy”. I am sure you will not want your son sleeping in this kind of
tent on the next campout. The tent must be returned at the next meeting. The boys will set up the tents at the next meeting and the Quartermaster
will inspect. If the tent is not cleaned properly or is still wet, the tent will be sent back home for the additional needed work to be completed.
Should a tent become unusable by the troop due to lack of care on your part, or is lost or damaged while in your care, you will be obligated to
replace the tent.
Example:
- Tent is not put up when brought home and dried out thoroughly…
- Tent comes back to Troop rotted
- Tent comes back to Troop mildewed
- Tent comes back to Troop moldy
and can not be cleaned and/or repaired by you to the Troop Quartermaster's satisfaction.

TENT CLEANING AND CARE CHECKLIST
METHOD TO DRY AND CLEAN A TENT
1. Unroll the tent and carefully separate the main tent unit from the rain fly, vestibule and poles.
MAIN TENT UNIT
a. Set up main part of tent
b. Thoroughly sweep out all sand, dirt and debris
c. Wash off all mud and dirt
d. Let stay up until completely dry
RAIN FLY AND VESTIBULE
a. Open up and hang out to dry
b. Wash off all mud, dirt, etc.
GROUND CLOTH
a. Open up and wash off all mud, dirt, leaves and debris
b. Leave open until thoroughly dry
STAKES, POLES AND ACCESSORIES
a. Empty the pole bag and clean the stakes and accessories if they are dirty
b. Air out the stake and tent bag if they are wet
2. Once the tent is dry, spread it out on a clean surface. Fold one side in, about a third of the way, and then fold the other side in. Fold the fly
in half twice and lay it on top of the tent.
3. Place the poles in their bag and the pegs in their bag.
4. Beginning at the opposite end from the door, place the pole bag and pegs on the tent and begin rolling the tent up around them. It is
important to keep the tent rolled as tightly as possible.
5. Place the tent inside the tent bag and return it to the next Troop meeting.
6. Put tent, rain fly, vestibule, ground cloth, stakes, poles, tinker toys, etc. back into bag and bring to next Monday night meeting.
The above items MUST BE COMPLETED THE DAY THE TENT COMES HOME! Do NOT leave a wet tent in its bag overnight. If it is raining the
day the tent comes home, please take the tent out of its bag right away and allow it to begin drying in your garage or basement.
IMPORTANT: Extreme care must be taken with the tents to ensure that no holes are made in the tent. You should never walk on the tent or fly.
Please return the attached signed tent checklist with the tent to the quartermaster. Make note of any missing or damaged items and report them to
the Troop Quartermaster.
Thanks for taking care of our Troop’s equipment!
