July 24, 2009 Greetings, Fremont Adult School ESL Students, During this time of planning for fall classes, I wish to inform you about the position of Fremont Adult Education in relation to the budget cuts from the State. All schools and students are affected by the severe economic situation in our district, our state, and our country. By working together, we will weather the storm and, hopefully, come out even stronger. Let me reassure you that the ESL Department has been actively planning 2009-2010 year schedules. We continue to focus on ways to empower students to reach successful outcomes. We have been working with adult education administrators, Fremont Unified School District and the School Board to continue to serve our students and our community. In order to keep our doors open, we have had to cancel some classes and shorten others. Unfortunately, we also have to charge small fees for ESL classes. We understand that for many of you it is a burden, but this is the only way we can continue to give you the education you need. The fees you pay will help save the jobs of your teachers and keep your classes open. We thank you for your support and appreciation of our program this summer, and we hope for your continued loyalty and persistence in your studies. The most important thing that you can do now is to come to class and work diligently towards your personal goals. You have an opportunity to tell our School Board how important ESL classes at the Fremont Adult School are for you. Students are very powerful – do not be shy. You can attend the School Board Meeting and Public Hearing this coming Tuesday July 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the FUSD Board Room on 4210 Technology Drive Fremont. If you cannot attend this Wednesday, please try to attend on August 26, 2009 or September 9, 2009.
