Tradition and innovation
As a travel and holiday destination, Switzerland is a fascinating country offering a huge degree of diversity
in what is a relatively compact area. Are you moved by beautiful natural landscapes? Or do you prefer
the city with its wide range of cultural opportunities and exciting nightlife? Or maybe you‘re one of those
people who live and breathe sport and exercise? But who said you need to choose? With Switzerland‘s
top-quality public transport network, it‘s possible to enjoy the best of both worlds. As a provider of feeder
services to all corners of Switzerland, PostBus plays a central role in this network. The enterprise, which
began over 100 years ago with just one Postbus line, has since become the biggest provider of regional
public transport in Switzerland.
It‘s not only the history and tradition of PostBus that are unique. The innovations of this market leader will
no doubt continue to break new ground in road-based public transport. PostBus recently became the first
transport company to introduce “mobile tagging”. This new system enables commuters to call up current
timetables easily and quickly for specific PostBus lines by mobile phone, without needing to access the
mobile Internet and type in the names of the stations. Another innovation is the audio travel guide which
provides interesting facts and key information on the various sights during the four mountain passes tour.
Thanks to its partnership with SwissMobile, the Swiss network for sustainable mobility in leisure and tou-
rism, PostBus has been able to expand its offering with regard to walking and cycling. A trip in a Postbus
is the perfect way to round off any of the SwissMobile routes. Take advantage of the simplified procedure
for bike transportation on a Postbus: bike tickets, all-day bike cards and general bike passes are now also
available for Postbuses. In the cantons of Graubünden, Valais and Berne, Postbuses are already equipped
with bike racks and trailers to accommodate your bike.
Be inspired by the new and exciting excursion ideas from PostBus. Enjoy, have a safe trip and welcome to
the yellow class!

Trips by Postbus, railway and boat
Switzerland offers a unique level of transport infrastructures. Even the remotest places can easily
be reached by railway, Postbus, boat or cable car. Well-coordinated connections and attractive
ticket options ensure effortless planning and enjoyable travelling.
Discounts for children
Children up to 6 years of age travel for free when accompanied by an adult. Children from age 6 to 16 also
travel for free if in possession of a personal Junior or Grandchild Card when accompanied by their parents
or grandparents (at least 1 person). When travelling alone, the half-fare rate applies to children up to 16
years. The Track 7 pass is not valid in Postbuses. Links: www.postbus.ch, www.sbb.ch
Half-Fare Card and General Abonnement
The Half-Fare Card entitles the holder to tickets for half the regular price. Included are the tram and bus
lines of most cities and suburbs as well as countless cable cars. The General Abonnement (GA) is an ideal
option for frequent users of public transport, since it entitles the holder to free travel. Many mountain
railways and cable cars offer discounted tickets. A surcharge applies to touristic PostBus lines (see section
“Alpine Ticket”).
Links: www.postbus.ch, www.sbb.ch
Save costs with Day Cards
Holders of a Half-Fare Card can purchase one or several Day Cards which entitle the holder to unlimited
travel by Postbus and other means of public transport. Link: www.sbb.ch
Swiss Travel System offers attractive tickets
The attractive all-inclusive tickets have variable validity periods and are ideal for combined trips by Postbus,
railway and boat. In addition, most tickets include a 50 % reduction for many mountain railways and cable
cars, up to 30 % discount on the leisure offers of RailAway as well as free entrance to some 450 museums
and exhibitions. For extra savings: Swiss Pass and Swiss Flexi Pass are issued at a 15 % discount per person
if at least two persons are travelling together. Young adults up to 26 years of age can purchase a Swiss Pass
at a 25 % discount. Only non-residents of Switzerland are eligible to buy these tickets.

Alpine Ticket for touristic PostBus lines
Some touristic PostBus lines require an additional ticket, the “Alpine Ticket”, together with an all-inclusive
ticket such as the Swiss Pass, General Abonnement or Day Card. Prices vary according to the distances tra-
velled and are between CHF 1.50 (per line/section) and CHF 25.–. The Alpine Ticket can be purchased
directly on the Postbus from the driver. Link: www.postbus.ch
Travelling by bicycle
A special ticket needs to be purchased for the transport of each bicycle. This has to be announced by tele-
phone. Take advantage of the simplified procedure for bike transportation on a Postbus: bike tickets, all-day
bike cards and general bike passes are now also available for Postbuses. In the cantons of Graubünden,
Valais and Berne, Postbuses are already equipped with bike racks and trailers to accommodate your bike.
Different types of top-quality bicycles are available for rent at some 100 train stations.

Travelling without luggage
The “fast baggage” service will transport your luggage to and from 45 cities and holiday destinations on
the same day. Guests arriving from abroad can profit from the “Fly Rail Baggage” service: Luggage can be
checked in worldwide at any airport and airline to be transported directly to the train station at the holiday
destination from the Zurich or Geneva airports, both in- and out-bound.

About PostBus
PostBus – The yellow class
A modern company with a long history
For the past century, PostBus has contributed significantly to Switzerland’s excellent reputation
as a travel destination. The yellow Postbuses with their inimitable three-tone horn travel across
the most beautiful Alpine passes and take visitors wherever the rail lines cannot go. Through
magnificent scenery and charming Alpine valleys – with PostBus you are in the midst of it all!
Important link
Postbuses are much more than just ideal means of transport for excursions and holidays. With its intricate
route network, PostBus functions as a reliable feeder and link in the public transport system. Moreover,
PostBus is the primary public transport provider in Switzerland’s rural and metropolitan areas and the
remotest corners of the country. Every year, our drivers welcome over 111 million passengers aboard their
vehicles. 75 percent use PostBus services for their daily commute to school, work or to run errands, while
25 percent enjoy it for leisure tours. And yet, the spectacular mountain roads have remained the yellow
class’ trademark. Our ”Route Express Lines“ feature the most attractive panoramic routes, taking you
back to the nostalgic times of yesteryear.
Market leader in regional public transport
PostBus is the largest bus company in Switzerland. With approximately 1,600 employees, PostBus
generates over 500 million Swiss francs in annual sales. Another 1,300 employees work for PostBus in
over 200 separate companies. Around 1,900 Postbuses travel 88.8 million kilometres every year, enough
to circle the earth six times every day. The PostBus route network covers 9,827 kilometres, more than
three times as much as the Swiss Federal Railway system (3,011 km). Over the past years, PostBus has
managed to maintain its market position and successfully provides transport services in the neighbou-
ring countries.
PostBus Shop
Our shop offers a carefully selected range of PostBus items which will make the heart of PostBus fans
leap! Visit www.postbus.ch to look at our mini models, toys, books and much, much more.
