GED TESTING GUIDELINES TO KEEP IN MIND
1. Enrollment in ABE/GED classes is open to students ages 17 and over who are not currently attending
high school. Students who already have their high school diploma may also attend classes for basic
skills review instead of test preparation. Basic skills review may include preparation for specialized
certification testing or upgrading skills for additional job responsibilities.

2. When a 17 or 18-year old enrolls in one of our classes, the student will need to submit an official NYS
GED Test Verification Form completed and signed by a high school guidance counselor. Those
students can take the GED test if they meet the NYS testing requirements which include being out of
high school for at least one year OR being members of a high school class that has graduated. The
completed Verification Form must be attached to the test application. Verification forms are available
from the GED instructors or by calling (585) 394-3500, extension 7431.

3. Students 19 years old or older do not need to complete a Verification Form, but they must fill out an
official test application. Please note: All students who take the GED exam must complete a
Demographic Form. Sample forms are available to enrolled FLCC/GED students at any class site.

4. The official test is administered on two consecutive days. Subject areas tested are science, social
studies, reading, math (algebra, geometry, and trigonometry) and English (including a five paragraph
essay). To insure success on the exam and to learn about the GED scoring system, it is strongly
recommended that all testers attend preparation classes.

5. Students who need testing accommodations on the GED exam must notify the GED instructor upon
enrollment in the class. Special testing can be arranged if appropriate documentation is provided.
Since special testing must be pre-approved, extra time is needed to process the application.

6. There is continuous enrollment in these classes, so new students may join the classes at any time.

                                         All Classes Are Free
All students must attend a 3 hour Registration/Orientation.
