ACCOUNT HOLDS
Students will have a hold placed on their RPCC accounts when they are late paying tuition and fees,
returning library books, submitting admission documents, etc. Students with account holds are
generally not permitted to schedule classes for the upcoming semester until the holds have been
resolved.

SERVICE LEARNING COURSES
Service learning courses provide students with structured learning experiences that include participation
in activities that serve the community. This linking of academic studies to real-world issues serves to
enrich the learning experience. Over the course of the semester, students enrolled in these courses will
be expected to complete approximately four to six hours of volunteer service in the community. Service
learning courses are identified as such in the Schedule of Classes included in this bulletin.

COURSE LOAD LIMITS
Regularly enrolled RPCC students are permitted to schedule a maximum of 19 credit hours for a fall or
spring semester and 10 hours for a summer semester. The number of credit hours assigned to each
course can be found in the “Course Descriptions” section of the RPCC General Catalog, available online
at www.rpcc.edu.

REFUNDS
Refunds resulting from resignations or schedule adjustments will be processed after the last day to add
classes. Processing time is approximately two to four weeks. A check refunding the amount owed will
be made out and mailed to the student.

REGISTRATION PERIODS
For most categories of students, there are two distinct registration periods—early and late.

        Early Registration (June 10—August 12)
The start date for early registration varies according to the schedule below:
 June 10—continuing students (i.e., students who are enrolled at RPCC currently—during the
spring 2011 or summer 2011 semester). Passport opens on June 10, and group scheduling
                sessions begin June 13.
 June 15—re-entry, transfer, non-matriculating, and visiting students.
 New freshmen who apply in a timely fashion will be contacted by the Office of Admissions so that
they can sign up for and attend a freshman advising session during early registration.
 August 9 at 4:00 PM—The course scheduling feature of Passport will be suspended. Students
needing to schedule after this time must sign up for and attend a group scheduling session.
There are a limited number of seats available at these sessions. Therefore, students should plan
ahead to avoid being a late registrant.

        Late Registration (August 13—August 24)
Students who register (i.e., pay tuition and fees) on or after August 13 are considered late
registrants and will be charged a $25 late fee. Those who schedule classes during this period
must pay tuition and fees on the day that they schedule.

Early registration ends on August 12, which is the early registration payment
deadline. Failure to meet this payment deadline will result in a $25 late fee and
possible loss of one’s course schedule.

                                                                                                              5
 SCHEDULING CLASSES THROUGH PASSPORT 
**Available through 4:00 PM August 9**

WHAT IS PASSPORT?
Passport is RPCC’s student portal. Most students attending the main campus (on Highway 22) will have
access to course registration through Passport. Other Passport features include the following:
     Schedule and feebill viewing
     Online transcript request
     Academic history reports
 Degree audit reports and curriculum sheets

WHO CAN USE PASSPORT?
Access to Passport is determined by a student’s admission status:

    UNRESTRICTED ACCESS
Fully-admitted, regularly-enrolled students without account holds (see section on “Account
Holds”) have access to all Passport features wherever they have Internet access.

    RESTRICTED ACCESS
Fully-admitted, regularly-enrolled students with account holds (see section on “Account Holds”)
have full access to all features in Passport except for the course add/drop feature and transcript
requests. These students who wish to schedule classes must resolve their holds. Otherwise, they
cannot schedule classes for the upcoming semester.

Provisionally-admitted, non-matriculating, and visiting students have full access to all of the
features in Passport except for the course add/drop feature, which they may use only during group
scheduling sessions on campus. Students who are provisionally admitted are strongly encouraged
to clear up their status so that they can be regularly admitted. Once regularly admitted, these
students will have unrestricted access to the portal as long as they do not have other account holds.

New freshmen will use the portal for the first time at orientation. Those who are fully admitted will
have unrestricted access after orientation. Those who are provisionally admitted should read the
    paragraph above.

NO ACCESS: Cross-enrolled and dually-enrolled students (along with other special populations) do
not have access to the portal.
 Cross-enrolled students should contact the college or university that they attend for instructions
        on how to cross-enroll.
 Dual or Early Start students should contact their high counselor or the Office of Admissions at
        RPCC (225-675-8270).

HOW DO I ACCESS PASSPORT?
Go to www.rpcc.edu. On the navigation menu on the left-hand side of the RPCC web site, click on the
PASSPORT button. You can also go directly to Passport by typing http://passport.rpcc.edu into the
address bar of your Internet browser. To schedule classes using Passport, follow these steps:

    STEP 1: LOG ON
     Go to http://passport.rpcc.edu.
 Enter your user name and password.
User name = “rp” + first letter of first name + full last name + last 4 digits of social
              security number (no spaces)
Password = your nine-digit social security number (no dashes)

                                                                                                         6
 Change your password when prompted.

STEP 2: ADD AND/OR DROP CLASSES
 Select COURSE ADD/DROP from the Passport menu on the navigation bar on the left.
 From the drop-down menu provided, choose the semester for which you wish to schedule
      classes. Click the SUBMIT button.
 Use the four tabs (see explanation in the columns to the right) as needed to add and/or drop
courses and to view both pending course requests and your current schedule.

   STEP 3: SUBMIT SCHEDULE REQUESTS
Each time you request to add and/or drop classes through Passport, you must always click the
SUBMIT REQUEST—ALL DESIRED CHANGES MADE button before logging off or exiting Passport in
order to have your request processed.

HOW DO I SCHEDULE CLASSES IN PASSPORT?
Once in Passport, click on the link to the COURSE ADD/DROP page. This page includes four tabs to help
you add and/or drop classes. Continue reading for a description of each tab.

   CLASS SEARCH TAB
Use this tab to search for classes using one or more of the following filters: course department
(e.g., English, math), course title, days of the week, and starting or ending time for a course.
Once you’ve selected a filter, click the “Add Filter” button. Your results will appear on the “Add
   Courses” tab.

   ADD COURSES TAB
To add a class, use the drop-down menus to choose the course department, number/title, and
section. Then click on the “Add Selected Course” button.
Note: If you added a filter on the “Class Search” tab, then search results will appear on the “Add
Courses” tab. After reviewing the search results (and selecting from them if desired), you must go
back to the “Class Search” tab to remove the filter to continue searching for other classes.
After making all desired schedule requests (i.e., adds and/or drops), you must click on the “SUBMIT
REQUEST—ALL DESIRED CHANGES MADE” button in order to submit your requests for approval.

   PENDING TAB
Each time you click the “Add Selected Course” button on the “Add Courses” tab, the selected course
is added to the “Pending” tab. Just remember to click the “SUBMIT REQUEST—ALL DESIRED
CHANGES MADE” button after selecting your course requests. Clicking this button submits your
course requests for approval and saves them to the pending tab.
You may also use the “Pending” tab to cancel a course request that is still pending approval. To
cancel a request, look in the “Remove Request?” column. Click on the “x” that is on the same row as
the course request you wish to cancel. Again, don’t forget to click the “SUBMIT REQUEST—ALL
DESIRED CHANGES MADE” button when you’re done.

                                                                                                         7
    CURRENT SCHEDULE TAB
Courses appear on this page once they have been approved and added to your schedule. To drop a
class from your current schedule, find the “Remove Request?” column. Click on the “DROP” button
that is on the same row as the course you wish to drop from your schedule. Once again, you’ll need
to click the “SUBMIT REQUEST—ALL DESIRED CHANGES MADE” button when you’re done.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR MY CLASSES TO BE ADDED?
Your request will be processed as quickly as possible, typically within two business days.

HOW WILL I KNOW IF MY COURSE REQUESTS WERE APPROVED?
Once requests are approved, they will appear on the “Current Schedule” tab in the portal. Students are
responsible for checking Passport in a timely manner to see if their course requests were approved and
should call the Office of Student Services at 225-675-8270 with questions about their schedules.

HOW WILL I KNOW IF A COURSE REQUEST IS DENIED?
If a course request is denied, a message will appear on the Passport “Message Board,” which can be
found on the Passport navigation menu. Note that the computer program that reviews your course
requests will make every effort to verify your eligibility for your course requests. However, you are
ultimately responsible for making sure that you are eligible for the courses that you request.

Additionally, students are responsible for knowing their academic records and for scheduling classes for
which they are eligible. Students may repeat courses only when a grade of “C” or lower was earned.
Those who attempt to schedule a class already completed with an “A” or “B” grade will be dropped from
the class just prior to the start of the semester. Because few courses will have openings at that time,
students are advised to schedule carefully to avoid being dropped from a class when there will be
limited options for finding a replacement.

I FORGOT MY PASSWORD.
If you provided the Passport system with your e-mail address, then you can click the password
assistance link on the login page and follow the instructions to have your password reset.

If you did not enter an e-mail address into the Passport system, you must come in person to the Office
of Student Services with a picture ID to request that your password be reset.

THIS IS MY FIRST TIME TO LOG IN TO PASSPORT, AND MY USERNAME AND ID DON’T WORK.
Only fully-admitted, regularly-enrolled students have access to the course scheduling section in
Passport. Refer to the section entitled “Who Can Use Passport?” for more information or call the Office
of Student Services at 225-675-8270.

HOW DO I PRINT MY SCHEDULE AND FEEBILL IN PASSPORT?
Log in to Passport. On the navigation menu on the left side of the screen, choose “Course Schedule/Fee
Bill Report.” From the “term to report on” drop-down menu, choose the semester for which you wish to
print a schedule and feebill. Then click “Generate Report.” A PDF version of your schedule and feebill
should appear for you to view and/or print. If nothing appears, look at the top of the screen for a pop-
up blocker message. Select the option to accept pop-ups from the site. Then reset the semester in the
“term to report on” menu if needed, and click “Generate Report” again. Your report should now
appear.

PREPARE FOR AND MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR GROUP SCHEDULING SESSION
If you’d like to make the most of your scheduling session, use the instructions that follow to prepare for
the session.

If earning a degree at RPCC, find the curriculum sheet for your degree program on the RPCC
(http://www.rpcc.edu/academics.cfm) and review it to see what courses you might need. As you are
reviewing the curriculum sheet, it may be helpful to have a copy of your academic history, which shows
all courses completed as well as those in progress. This may be obtained through Passport (for those
with access) or from the Office of Student Services (Building C) with an RPCC or other official picture ID.
By reviewing this material in advance, you’ll be able to come to the session prepared with questions you
may have.

                                                                                                          9
If transferring to another institution:
1. Go to the transfer institution’s web site and locate their catalog online. Look through the catalog to
find your chosen curriculum or degree program. Print a copy of the curriculum, and bring it with
you to your group scheduling session.

2. Go to the Louisiana Board of Regents Statewide web site, http://www.regents.la.gov, and select
“Data and Publications” on the left navigation bar. On the next page, scroll down to the current
copy of the Master Course Articulation Matrix. This document helps to identify some general
education, natural science, and business courses that transfer between institutions. RPCC staff will
also be available during the advising session to help you with this. You may wish to print your own
   copies of the matrix.

                                    ONLINE COURSES 
At RPCC, online courses are delivered in two different ways: 1) directly through RPCC and 2) through
RPCC by way of LCTCS Online. As noted in the following paragraphs, the registration process for online
courses varies according to the delivery method.

ONLINE COURSES DIRECTLY THROUGH RPCC
A small number of courses are offered directly through RPCC. These courses are marked as online
courses in the Registration Bulletin and can also be identified by their section code, which will begin with
the letter “E.” Students who have been admitted to RPCC and who wish to sign up for these classes
must first pass an online pretest. This fifteen-minute pretest is designed to determine if a student has
the minimum computer literacy skills needed for success in an online class. To complete this pretest, go
to http://www.rpcc.edu/onlineCourseInfo.cfm. The Library will e-mail students to notify them of their
pretest results. Only after passing this test will students be allowed to schedule online courses.

ONLINE COURSES THROUGH RPCC BY WAY OF LCTCS ONLINE
LCTCSOnline provides a single web site where students can register for and take online courses offered
by RPCC and other community colleges across the state. Students who wish to take online courses
through this mode of delivery must go to http://online.lctcs.edu to apply and register for LCTCSOnline
courses. You may also visit this web site for more information about LCTCSOnline.

Please note that LCTCSOnline courses follow a separate academic calendar. Thus, the registration dates
(and all other dates on RPCC’s academic calendar) listed in the bulletin do not pertain to LCTCSOnline
classes. You must refer to http://online.lctcs.edu for the academic calendar for LCTCSOnline courses.

Once available, the list of LCTCSOnline courses will be posted at the end of the fall schedule of classes.
These courses are noted as LCTCS Online courses and can also be identified by their section code, which
begins with the letter “Z.”

WEBASSIGN
Beginning this summer, many sections of
developmental math will use WebAssign, an
online provider of instructional tools for faculty
and students. WebAssign enables instructors to
post homework assignments online that are
graded instantly, and students, in turn, get
immediate feedback on performance. Example
problems and additional help are also available
while doing homework. Students who sign up
for a course using WebAssign will be charged an
additional $75 fee for that course. This fee
includes access to an online textbook as long as
the student is enrolled in the course.

If you would like to see a demonstration version
of WebAssign, go to www.webassign.net. On
the righthand side of the page, click on the link
labeled “Preview: Example Accounts.” On the
next page, choose “Short List.” This is an
example of what a student account in
WebAssign might look like. Click on the links on
the student page to learn more.
