FlashSMS guide for the Apple iPhone 3GS & 4
1. Make a voice call to your FlashSMS local
access number (we suggest that you save
it as a ‘Contact’ for easy recall). This is a
free call as the phone will ‘hang up’ after
a single ring.
2. Turn on your speaker so that you can hear
the progress of the call.
3. FlashSMS will return a menu response
within a few seconds (the response time
will vary depending on your global
location). Select any of the options
shown in the menu or choose from your
list of previously used numbers.
Note: select ‘5’ if you wish to view a
continuation of your number list.
4. Tap the green REPLY button to respond,
enter a number option and tap the blue
Reply button that appears at the top
right of your screen.
–1–
5. Enter your response in text field (I have
entered ‘2’ as I plan to chat with a number
that appears on my list).
6. Tap the REPLY button that appears at the
top right of your screen. This instructs the
FlashSMS server that you wish to start a
chat session with this number.
Note: you can use your finger to scroll
up and down the menu list and view an
option that may be hidden.
7. The FlashSMS server will respond with
an invitation to enter a message. Tap the
green REPLY button to respond.
8. Enter your chat message in the field that
appears on the screen. Each message can
hold up to 182 characters (this may vary
between mobile carriers)
9. When you have written your message, tap
the blue REPLY button that appears at the
top right of your screen.
–2–
10. When your friend replies, your iPhone
will ‘beep’ and their message will appear
on the screen. Tap the green REPLY button
that appears at the bottom of your screen.
11.The reply screen will show the number
of the sender and their message. Enter
your reply and again tap the blue REPLY
button at the top right of your screen.
Points to note:
a. FlashSMS differs from a standard SMS in
that nothing is stored on your phone. The
message will appear once then disappear
when you answer.
b. Typically, you have about 45 seconds to
reply to each message. Past this point the
chat message will ‘time-out’ and end.

INFO services – subscription
1. FlashSMS also includes a series of INFO
services. These will vary from time-to-time.
To view the content, tap Reply, enter the
number selection and tap the small blue
Reply button at the top right of your
screen.
Points to note:
a. The FlashSMS options menu contains a
mix of INFO services options and your
frequently used numbers.
2. Celebrity News presents you with
options to either subscribe (and have
daily updates delivered to your phone)
to unsubscribe or to view the latest
Celebrity News.
3. When you subscribe to Celebrity News,
the FlashSMS server automatically sends
you a confirmation message.

services menu lists a series of sub-options.

2. In this example we have selected Option
4 and the news item about Tori Spelling is
displayed on the screen.
To return to the previous menu, tap
Reply, enter a number between 0 – 9
and tap the small blue Reply button at
the top right of your screen.
