Robert Locke: The Post Office has been here since 1911 when the building
opened and is not available for public access; it’s just a benefit for the
membership of the RAC. We’re uniquely open seven days a week, which includes
Sunday 9 to 5. We do anything from stamps, parcels, special deliveries to
pensions, obviously road tax being the RAC, premium bonds, etc. As a club shop
we sell a range of club wines with logo for gifts for members to take out. We sell
club ties, cufflinks. As a benefit to the members we sell club ties at a cost price
of £32. If you bought them in German Street they’d be £80 plus; hand-stitched
silk ties from Turnbull & Asser who are in German Street. We also sell teddy
bears as gifts, clocks, buttons, braces, funny coloured socks, if you’d want them,
and again we’re open the same hours as the Post Office seven days a week.
