     Financial Assistance for Recreation Programs
The Leamington Department of Culture & Recreation has partnered with several organizations
to offer financial assistance to youth 17 years of age and younger to allow youth to partici-

National Child Benefit Supplement (NCB):
• The NCB is a federal government program that allows eligible youth to register in ONE (1) recreation program (eg. Day Camp,

• Student memberships are also eligible under the NCB, but, should a person select a membership, they are ineligible for any other
subsidized programs for the duration of that membership.
• The eligible family pays 10% of the cost of the program; NCB pays the other 90% cost.
• The program also allows for $100.00 (including taxes) to be used for required equipment for the program that the youth are reg-
istered in on a one-time annual basis.

                           REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Refund Policy: A full refund will be made upon cancellation of a class or activity by the

of an unexpected situation such as inclement weather, power failure, building evacuation,
mechanical difficulties or a pool fouling. In the event of a pool fouling every effort will be made to
teach classes on deck. Requests for refunds and credits must be received in writing prior to the third
class. Refunds and credits will be prorated from the date of the request. A Doctor’s note must accom-

“Make-up classes” are not available for missed classes.
Easy Steps To Successful Swim Lessons: Before the first lesson starts, come to
recreational swimming at our pool. Have fun in the water and practice the swimming skills
you or your child already know. Your pre-visit to the pool will make your first day of
lessons a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Recreational swimming will give you
an opportunity to try out new things and have a fun time in the water. Talk
about the lessons with your child. Make sure that you have realistic
expectations. The program is not designed for everyone to
complete each level every time they register...
Remember, once you know a skill, you can still
                              get better, faster, stronger.

Dive into a career as a LIFEGUARD!
The most comfortable work suit you’ll ever own!
Most people can only dream of a work environment that’s dynamic and fun, where you can meet a wide variety
of people young and old, and do work that’s both challenging and rewarding. But lifeguards don’t have to dream
of that kind of work. They already have it!

Whether you’re working on your Red Cross Swim Level 4, or if you’re up to Level 8 or beyond, it’s never too early
or too late to consider training to be a lifeguard.

Working as a lifeguard is a great opportunity for young people to earn an above-average wage. It’s also a great
way to learn a wide range of skills and take on responsibilities that will not only look good on a resume, but will
serve you well throughout life. Training and experience as a lifeguard can also provide an excellent boost for those
considering a career in nursing, education, emergency response teams (paramedics, police, fire), recreation man-
agement or other health science fields.

Being a lifeguard requires swimming skill, physical fitness and
the desire to become a leader. Achieving lifeguard certification
is fun, challenging and rewarding. The knowledge and experi-
ence you’ll receive from training will provide lifelong career
opportunities and practical life skills. The Municipality of
Leamington instructor/lifeguards benefit from part-time posi-
tions after school and full-time positions in the summer months.

To learn more about an exciting career as a lifeguard, talk to
your water safety instructor or call Pat McLaughlin at 519-322-
2337.

The steps to become certified as a Red Cross Water Safety
instructor and as a Lifesaving Society Lifeguard are outlined
