Maxine Baker
Nacida en North West Durham, Maxine continúa ligada a sus raíces inglesas. Se graduó en Literatura Inglesa en
la Universidad de Leeds y realizó trabajos de investigación para CBC Canada, Thames TV y la BBC de Londres.
Para Granada TV, produjo y dirigió series acerca de la historia del cine y el fin del imperio británico. Fue editora
de Factual Programmes para la television escocesa y más tarde fue jefa ejecutiva del Scottish Film Council.
Actualmente, da clases de dirección de documentales en la National Film and Television School y en la Escuela
Internacional de Cine de Cuba. Su libro, Documentary in the Digital Age, fue publicado en el 2006.

Francesco Di Pace
Nacido en Nápoles, Italia, en 1957. Crítico de cine y periodista, vive en Roma, en donde es jefe de
programación de películas en RAI3, el tercer canal de RAI-Radiotelevisione Italiana. Además, es uno de los
autores de Fuori Orario, un programa nocturno sobre largometrajes, cortos y documentales de todo el mundo.
En el 2005, fue nombrado Delegado General de la Crítica Semanal Internacional de Venecia. En el 2002, co-
escribió el guión de Aprimi il cuore, un largometraje dirigido por Giada Colagrande.
Born in Naples, Italy, 1957. Film critic and journalist, he lives in Rome where he's currently the Head of Film
Programming of RAI3, the third channel of RAI-Radiotelevisione Italiana. Besides, he' s one of the authors of
Fuori Orario, a nightline tv program about feature films, shorts and documentaries from all over the world. In
2005 he was appointed General Delegate of the International Critic's Week of Venice. In 2002 he co-wrote the
screenplay of Aprimi il cuore, a full length feature film directed by Giada Colagrande.
Roman Gutek
Nacido en 1958, estudió administración y antropología del cine. Creó el Festival Internacional de Varsovia en
1985 y lo dirigió hasta 1992. En 1994 fundó Gutek Film, que es una de las distribuidoras cinematográficas
líderes en Polonia. Su compañía maneja el cine Muánow en Varsovia, que pertenece a la cadena Europa
Cinema y, en el 2004, ganó el premio Europa Cinemas por la alta calidad de su programación. Durante los
últimos seis años fue el director del Festival Internacional Era New Horizons, que presentó, en el 2006, más de
20 películas argentinas. Es también miembro del consejo del Instituto de Cine Polaco.
Born in 1958, he studied management as well as the anthropology of the cinema. He created the Warsaw
International Film Festival in 1985 and directed it until 1992. In 1994, he established Gutek Film, which is
presently one of the leading art house film distributors in Poland. The company manages the Muranów cinema in
Warsaw, which belongs to the Europa Cinema network. In 2004, the cinema was honoured with Europa Cinemas
Award for the high quality of the Muranów programming. For the last 6 years he has been the director of Era New
Horizons International Film Festival in Wroclaw. In 2006, the festival presented over 20 recent Argentine films. He
is also member of the board of the Polish Film Institute.
Robert Koehler
Es crítico para Variety, Cinema Scope, Cineaste y LA Weekly. Contribuyó escribiendo críticas de cine para
publicaciones como Cahiers du Cinema, Christian Science Monitor y Die Tageszeitung, además de críticas de
teatro para Los Angeles Times. Es miembro de FIPRESCI y fue jurado en varios festivales como el de Cannes,
Vancouver, Ciudad de México, Buenos Aires, Guadalajara, Palm Springs, Los Angeles y San Francisco. Dio
clases de cine contemporáneo en la Universidad de Los Angeles.
He is a film critic for Variety, Cinema Scope, Cineaste and the LA Weekly. He has contributed with film criticism

Frédéric Maire
Nacido en Suiza el 27 de octubre de 1961, es director y periodista de cine. Cofundador y codirector de “La
linterna mágica”, un club de películas infantiles. Desde 1979 ha dirigido varios cortos y mediometrajes de
ficción, además de reportajes para la Télévision Suisse Romande. Desde 1983 es especialista en cine para
diarios como L'Impartial y L'Express, y en estaciones de radio, como la Suisse Italienne. Desde 1986 trabaja en
el Festival Internacional de Locarno, donde pasó por el catálogo, la oficina de prensa, el comité de
programación, y actualmente se desempeña como Director Artístico. En 2004 fue nombrado presidente de la
Commission pour le Soutien de la Culture Cinématographique de su país.
Born in Switzerland in 1961, he is a film journalist and director. Co-founder and co-director of The Magic
Lantern, the children's film club. Since 1979, he has directed various fiction short and mid-length films for the
cinema and reportages for Television Suisse Romande. Since 1983, he has worked as a specialist in films for
various newspapers, particularly for L'Impartial and L'Express, and radio stations, as the Radio Suisse Italienne.
Since 1986, he has worked regularly with the Locarno International Film Festival on the Catalogue, then as Head
of the Press office, member of the programing comittee and, since 2001, as Artistic Director. In 2004, he was
made president of the Commission pour le Soutien de la Culture Cinématographique.
Marc Recha
Nació el 18 de octubre de 1970 en Barcelona. A los dieciocho años viajó a París y colaboró en la película Otage
(1989) del cineasta francés Marcel Hanoun. Autodidacta, Marc Recha se ha formado en las salas de cine y,
sobre todo, rodando con su cámara, con la que empezó a mirar el mundo a la edad de once años. A partir de
1984 dirigió catorce cortos en Súper 8 hasta que, en 1988, comenzó a filmar en 35 mm, tanto cortos como
largometrajes. Sus últimos títulos son Les Mans buides (2003) y Dies d'agost (2006, presentado en esta
edición del Bafici).
He was born on October 18th, 1970, in Barcelona. When he was eighteen he traveled to Paris and collaborated in
the film Otage (1989), from French filmmaker Marcel Hanoun. Self-taught, Marc Recha was educated at movie
theaters and, above all, shooting with his camera, with which he started to look at the world at the age of eleven.
Starting from 1984, he has directed fourteen shorts in Super 8, until, in 1988, he started shooting in 35mm, not
only shorts but also feature films. His last titles are Les Mans buides (2003) and Dies d'agost (2006, presented in
this edition of Bafici).
Pablo Trapero
Uno de los directores más importantes del nuevo cine argentino. Nacido el 4 de octubre de 1971 en San Justo
(Buenos Aires, Argentina) estudió en la Universidad del Cine donde realizó varios cortos como Mocoso
malcriado (1993), o Negocios (1995) y fue asistente del film colectivo Mala Época (1998). En 1996 fundó,
junto a otros jóvenes directores, Cinematográfica Sargentana, su primera compañía de producción. Sus
largometrajes, elogiados tanto por el público como por la crítica especializada, son Mundo grúa (1999), El
bonaerense (2002), Familia rodante (2004) y Nacido y Criado (2006). Los cuatro realizaron un intenso recorrido
por festivales de todo el mundo.

One of the most important directors of the New Argentine Cinema. Born on October 4 , 1971, in San Justo
(Buenos Aires, Argentina), he studied at the Universidad del Cine, where he made various shorts, such as
Mocoso malcriado (1993), or Negocios (1995) and was the assistant director in the collective film Mala época
(1998). In 1996 he founded, along with other young directors, Cinematográfica Sargentana, his first production
company. His feature films, acclaimed by audiences as well as specialized critics, are Mundo grúa (1999), El
bonaerense (2002), Familia rodante (2004) and Nacido y Criado (2006). These four films intensely traveled to
festivals throughout the world.

Nació en Venecia en 1958, donde se graduó en Literatura, Historia del Arte y Cine. Escribió en las páginas
culturales de Corriere della Sera, Manifesto y Ciak. Trabajó como autor y director para canales de televisión
como “Arte”, “ZDF”, “Tele+” and “Sky Italy”, para el cual filmó varios reportajes sobre cine. Es el co-manager
de Berlinale / World Cinema Fund, , y miembro del comité programador del Festival de Locarno .
Born in Venice in 1958, where he graduated in Literature, History of Arts and Cinema. He has contributed to the
cultural pages of newspapers and magazines such as Corriere della Sera, Manifesto and Ciak. He has worked as
an author and director for TV-channels like “Arte”, “ZDF”, “Tele+” and “Sky Italy”, for which he has shot many
reportages on film. He is the co-manager of the Berlinale / World Cinema Fund, and a member of the

Piotr Kobus
Nació en 1971 en Polonia. Graduado en la Universidad de Pace, en Nueva York, es profesor de cine
latinoamericano en la Universidad de Varsovia y programador de festivales. En el 2001 fundó “AP Mañana”, que
distribuye y promueve el cine latinoamericano. Su Festival de Cine Latinoamericano va por la octava edición. En el
2006 coeditó junto a Fernando Martín Peña el primer libro de cine argentino en polaco, que acompañó a la mayor
retrospectiva de Nuevo Cine Argentino en el New Horizons International Film Festival de Polonia.
Born in 1971 in Poland. A graduate from Pace University, in New York, he’s a professor of Latin American cinema at
Warsaw University and a programmer for film festivals. In 2001 he has founded AP Mañana which distributes and
promotes Latin American cinema. Its Latin American Film Festival is entering its 8th edition. In 2006 he co-edited
with Fernando Martin Peña a first ever book about Argentine Cinema in Polish. It has accompanied a major
retrospective of New Argentine Cinema at the New Horizons International Film Festival in Poland.
Pawel Pawlikowski
Nació en Varsovia en 1957. Vive en Inglaterra, donde se graduó en Lenguas Modernas. También tiene un
Doctorado en literatura y filosofía. Dirigió varios documentales, producidos por la BBC, que lo convirtieron en
una figura central del género. Su primer largo de ficción, Last Resort, (2000, estrenado en Argentina en el Bafici
2001), cautivó a la crítica y al público. En su novena edición, el Bafici le dedica un foco.
He was born in Warsaw in 1957. He lives in England, where he graduated in Modern Languages. He directed
various documentaries produced by the BBC. He became a central figure in documentary cinema, and with his
first fiction film (Last Resort, 2000, screened in the 2001 Bafici), he captivated both critics and audience. In its
ninth edition, Bafici dedicates him a Focus.
Jaime Pena
Licenciado en Geografía e Historia. Ha publicado distintos artículos en revistas como Vértigo, Grial, Archivos de la
Filmoteca o Secuencias. Es autor de los libros El espíritu de la colmena (2004), y Cine español. Otro trayecto
histórico (2005, junto a José Luis Castro de Paz), entre otros. En la actualidad colabora regularmente en las
publicaciones cinematográficas El Amante (Argentina) y Letras de Cine (España), así como en la publicación on
line Tren de Sombras.
He has a degree in Geography and History. He has published different articles in magazines such as Vértigo, Grial,
Archivos de la Filmoteca or Secuencias. He's the author of El espíritu de la colmena (2004), and Otro trayecto
histórico (2005, in collaboration with José Luis Castro de Paz), among others. He currently writes for the film
magazines El Amante (Argentina) and Letras de Cine (Spain), and also with the online publication Tren de sombras.
Claire Simon
Nacida en Londres y criada en Provenza, estudió etnología, árabe y bereber. Autodidacta, aprendió cine a través
del montaje, mientras realizaba paralelamente cortometrajes de manera independiente. Entre sus películas
más notables se encuentran La Police (1988), y Scènes de ménage (1991). En 1997 presentó en la Quincena
de Realizadores su primer largometraje de ficción, Sinon Oui. El último, Ça brûle, está presente en este Bafici

Agustín Mango
Nació en Buenos Aires en 1981. Estudió Filosofía y Artes Combinadas en la Universidad de Buenos Aires y
cursó en la Escuela de Crítica de Cine de la revista El Amante. Desde 2002, sus artículos y entrevistas fueron
publicados en las revistas Inrockuptibles, Llegás a Buenos Aires, Revista G7, Revista TDI, y en los sitios web
Subjetiva, Espacio Cine Independiente y Fipresci.org. En 2005 integró el staff de redacción de Sin Aliento, el
diario del BAFICI. En 2007 fue seleccionado por el Festival Internacional de Cine de Rotterdam para participar
en el Trainee Program For Young Film Critics.
Agustín Mango was born in Buenos Aires in 1981. He studied Philosophy and Combined Arts at the University of
Buenos Aires and attended the Film Criticism School organized by El Amante film magazine. Since 2002, his
articles and interviews have been published by printed media such as Inrockuptibles, Llegás a Buenos Aires,
Revista G7, Revista TDI, and on the web sites Subjetiva, Espacio Cine Independiente and Fipresci.org. In 2005,
he was part of the staff of Sin Aliento, the BAFICI´s daily newspaper. In 2007 he was selected by the International
Film Festival Rotterdam to participate in its Trainee Program for Young Film Critics.
Claudio Cordero
Nació en 1977 en Perú. Crítico de cine, profesor universitario y periodista. Graduado en Ciencias de la
Comunicación en la Universidad de Lima, desde 2001 es director y jefe de redacción de la revista de cine
Godard!. Ha colaborado en los diarios El Comercio y Cambio. Trabajó en radio, en los años 2001 y 2002,
conduciendo y produciendo Radio Nacional. En 2004 dictó un ciclo de conferencias sobre cine británico de los
años sesenta. Actualmente dicta un curso de Cinematografía en la Universidad San Martín de Porres.

Nació en 1980 en Santiago de Chile. Crítico y periodista cinematográfico, es miembro del equipo de redacción
de la revista Letras de Cine y de la revista digital Tren de Sombras, así como colaborador de Fotogramas,
Rockdelux, la publicación norteamericana Film Comment y el portal de cine de Terra-España. Ha ejercido como
corresponsal en festivales internacionales para los diarios chilenos La Nación y Diario Siete y ha participado en
varios libros colectivos. Es miembro de la junta directiva de la Asociación Catalana de Críticos y Escritores
Cinematográficos (filial de FIPRESCI) y docente de la escuela Observatorio de Cine en Barcelona. Ha ejercido
de jurado en los festivales de Sitges, Linz y Gijón.

She was a buyer and commissioning editor for VPRO, one of the
Dutch TV stations, both for documentary and fiction. Also for VPRO

Gabe Klinger
Nacido en San Pablo, Brasil, es escritor, programador y maestro formado en Chicago, Estados Unidos. Es
miembro de la Chicago Film Critics Association y de la FIPRESCI. Actualmente es profesor adjunto en el
departamento de cine y video de Columbia College, en donde dicta cursos de Historia y Estética. Ha dado
conferencias en la Universidad de Harvard, en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Chicago y en la Universidad
de Chicago.
Born in São Paulo, Brazil, he is a writer, programmer and teacher educated in Chicago, USA. He is a member of
the Chicago Film Critics Association and FIPRESCI. He is currently an adjunct professor in the Film and Video
Department at Columbia College where he teaches History and Aesthetics courses. He has lectured at Harvard
University, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, and University of Chicago.
Isaki Lacuesta
Nació en Girona, España, en 1975. Sus dos largometrajes, Cravan vs. Cravan (2002) y La leyenda del tiempo
(2005), han sido premiados en diversos festivales internacionales. Entre otros premios, recibió en el Festival
Internacional de Cine de Sitges los galardones al director revelación y el del público a la mejor película.
Compagina el cine con la docencia (en los másters de documental de la Pompeu Fabra y la Universidad
Autónoma de Barcelona, entre otros) y con la colaboración en diversos medios escribiendo artículos sobre
cine, música y literatura.
He was born in Girona, Spain, in 1975. His two feature-length films, Cravan vs. Cravan (2004) and La leyenda
del tiempo (2005), have been awarded at many international festivals. Among others, he received the audience
and Best-New Director award at the Sitges International Film Festival. He alternates cinema and teaching (at the
Documentary Masters in the Pompeu Fabra and the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, among others) and
writes various articles on film, music and literature.
Rafael Spregelburd
Nació en Buenos Aires en 1970. Comenzó sus estudios de teatro como actor, pero al poco tiempo se dedicó
también a la dramaturgia, y a partir de 1995, también a la dirección, ocupándose tanto de textos propios como
de otros autores. En 1998 fue seleccionado por el British Council y el Royal Court Theatre de Londres para
participar del Summer International Residency que organiza el Royal Court. Es director y autor del teatro
Schaubühne, de Berlín.
