2007 Community College Survey Report
Overview
The University of Washington Tacoma believes that understanding the opinions and
expectations of regional community college students is fundamental to providing the
higher education experience they desire. To this end, the UW Tacoma Office of
Institutional Research and Planning (IRP) developed and offered community colleges the
opportunity to participate in a survey of their students. The UW Tacoma wishes to express
appreciation to Pierce College, South Puget Sound Community College, and Tacoma
Community College for participating in this survey.
The Community College Student Survey, conducted in spring 2007, was designed to
provide a broad range of opinion data about student plans beyond their community college
learning experience. This information will be utilized by UW Tacoma to help plan academic
programs and support services for community college transfer students. It is hoped that
participating community colleges will also find the data informative.
Methodology
The 50 questions contained in the survey were developed by IRP staff with references to
content found in other national student surveys. It was designed to be administered online
via a series of Web pages. A copy of the survey was made for each participating
community college and made available for student access on a University of Washington
website. Each participating community college sent out an all-student email containing an
introductory cover letter from UW Tacoma with a link to the survey.
In some cases, respondents were allowed to provide more than one answer to a particular
question (i.e., “Select all that apply”). Other questions employed “skip” logic designed to
display follow-up questions based on a response to a “branching” question.
Several Washington community colleges were contacted and invited to participate. For
various reasons, not all were able to do so. Following are total respondent numbers for
those that did participate.
Community College Participants and Respondent Frequencies
Cumulative
Community College Frequency Percent

Pierce College 348 60.8 60.8
South Puget Sound Community College 112 19.6 80.4
Tacoma Community College 112 19.6 100.0
Total 572 100.0
The data collected for each participating community college during the survey’s open
participation period were tallied separately in the hosting software. Once closed for
participation, the separate data were combined into a master data file and analyzed using
query and statistical analysis tools.
The data provided in this report highlights the majority of questions and related statistics.

Executive Summary
In total, 572 students responded to the survey. The majority of respondents (61%)
identified their gender as female. Seventy-one percent identified themselves as
Caucasian; while among students of color African American / Black (7.6%) and Hispanic /
Latino American (7.2%) had the largest number of respondents. Forty-six percent of
respondents have one or more minor dependents in their care, while 27% have one or
more adult dependents in their care.
Not surprisingly, the majority of respondents are attending community college with the
purpose of transferring with an AA degree. While 10.7% intend to complete or finalize
their education with an AA degree, the majority (75.6%) plan to pursue advanced studies
from BA/BS to doctorate degrees. Many of these students are hoping to exceed their
parents or guardians’ education level, as only 34.8% have a Bachelor’s degree or higher.
Of those not planning to transfer to a four-year university, family responsibilities (27.1%)
were most often listed as the reason. Of the 80.5% who are considering transferring to a
four-year college, 78.7% stated they are either absolutely interested or somewhat
interested in transferring to UW Tacoma. Of those not interested in transferring to UW
Tacoma, the top reason selected was that a program of interest is not offered. When
asked how well informed they are about the transfer process, only 20% answered
completely informed, with an additional 56% saying they are somewhat informed. Forty-
five percent of respondents stated that they have taken an on-line class and would like to
do so again in the future.
Of those interested in transferring to UW Tacoma, the availability of the major they want
was listed as the most important factor in their transfer decision, with UW Tacoma’s
academic reputation and cost competitiveness tied for second most important. The top
concern of these students is transferring credits from their current institution to UW
Tacoma, followed by quality of instruction and getting good grades. Campus life/activities,
campus size, and living in parents’ home were ranked as low importance or concern.
Almost one out of four potential transfer students to UW Tacoma are undecided about an
intended major (23.4%) for a bachelor’s degree. However, Interdisciplinary Arts and
Sciences (IAS) (20.6%), Nursing (20.6%), and Business (19.0%) were seen as likely
degree goals. The most popular intended degrees are Management and Accounting within
Business, Computer Software and Systems within Technology, and Environmental
Studies/Science within IAS. When asked which of a list of new proposed programs at UW
Tacoma they would be interested in, Psychology and Health were the top choices followed
by Computer Information Technology and Information Science. Fifty-four percent plan to
attend UW Tacoma full-time, and 53% plan to apply for financial assistance. Only 7.7%
are sure they plan to participate in study abroad. Students who plan to transfer greatly
prefer class-meeting schedules of either two classes per week (38%) or three classes per
week (28.3%), with the greatest percentage (45.6%) preferring morning classes. Housing
is of interest to only 25.8% of students, with the largest percentage of those interested in
on-campus single student apartments with in-unit cooking facilities.
When asked to comment on improvements to the transfer process, many respondents felt
UW Tacoma should be more proactive in disseminating information via electronic “push”
technologies, focusing on transfer requirements, degree opportunities, and other
information that would “ensure that my current path is on track.” Students offered many
suggestions for possible “programs or degrees” offered on their community college
campus in conjuncture with UW Tacoma. There was a broad preference for heath
sciences/medical courses (Bachelor of Dental Hygiene and Bachelor of Science in Nursing)
as well as liberal arts (drama, linguistics, philosophy) with further interest expressed in
the social sciences and education.

Question 28
What can UW Tacoma do to improve your transfer process?
Pierce
Sending UW representatives to local community colleges to meet and talk with students. If, however, this is
already being done, I have not heard or seen anything about it.
I haven't gotton to the point of transfering yet, still working on getting into the RN program at Pierce.
I will graduate this summer from Pierce College. Take my Piece college AA degree straight across the board and
accept me as a junior. Also, help me decide what would be the best bachelor degree for me. I am a Phi Theta
Kapa member at Pierce College. Thank you.
make running start student transfers easier.
I want more resources for International students who want to transfer to UWT. It's difficult find conditions in
web site
I am not in the local area but am from Washington. I am still in the military and move upon official orders. I
need more information on the transfer process.
make more information available online as to courses offered as well as a schema for coordinated planning of
course selection
also a simplified "online Advisor" for transferand /or selective courses would be helpful
Already accepted and have an appointment for advising. Thanks
Would like to have UWT offer an online RN to BSN program
Let me know if you decide to pick up my major. Also, let me know more information about your International
Studies College, Graduate School.
I have a 3.9 and am in position to transfer as a Senior so Grad prospects are vital to my decision.
Allowing all junior college credits as well as applying credits for military schooling.
Make sure people know basic facts and information about the transfer process and where they can go for
assistance.
UW Tacoma can make it so that I don't have to take any extra classes to satisfy requirements. Also, I would like
to be more informed on the process of trasfering.
Help me in my transfer of credits from Pierce College and set me in the right direction to my final destination.
Also help me in transfering from the BSN program to the MD program at UW Seattle.
Send me information on the school and specifics about its psychology program.
I feel that UW Tacoma has made the process very smooth. I will be bridging over to UW Tacoma, Winter of
2008, while I continue earning my ASN degree at Pierce College.
Thank You for making the process so smooth!
I probably wont goto UWT if they do not wave certain classes I need to transfer. I took all the credits I need for
my AA, but the UWT requires other class. I cannot take those other classes because they do not fit into my AA
degree, there is no room left to take them, unless I pay for them myself which I cannot do because I am on
financial aid and very poor.
It would be good to know more about UW Tacoma. Sometimes we have someone from other universities come
and advertise and give out brochures. I haven't seen anyone from UW at our college.
Have the field I am looking for (Veterinary and Genetic)
finacial aid, and accept the credits I have from other CC or University.
I need to make an appointment to talk to an advisor because i do not know where to begin. =)
UW can make exceptance avalibile for those in the military trying to get a nursing degree without having to be
an RN already.
Review the classes I have take thus far and tell me which ones I should be taking that would help me obtain a 4
year degree.
To consolidate my transfer credits and to ensure credit for each one so I don't have to waste time and/or money
re-taking classes.

Question 28
What can UW Tacoma do to improve your transfer process?
Pierce
everyting
It would be nice for a transfer student to be able to come straight into UW Tacoma with just 90 credits. I will
have my 90 credits, but in order to apply to the program I want, I also have to take the entire Calculus, Physics
and Chemistry series. I know and understand why that is, but that's a minimum of 4 more quarters after my 90
credits. For those of us that have been in Community College for a while and are looking forward to graduation,
it can be frustrating.
I just need to talk to someone. I am an online distance learner so I do not get to the Pierce College campus very
often therefore I have not had the opportunity to meet with someone. I feel that online learners are somewhat
the forgotten students out there.
I can't really think of anything since I haven't done it yet.
Have more resources at my current community college that are easily available.
Aside from asking about community college credits I also have 60 from George Washington University but have
yet to be asked if I have credits to transfer from another four year college or University. Make mention of the
ROTC as well
By keeping me informed of any changes that may occur or just to ensure that my current path is on track.
UW Tacoma can help improve my transfer process by giving me as much information about the school, what it
provides for my needs as a student, and chances of being enrolled into the school. As well as tramsfer
information.
I would like to know the requirements of my current school for me to transfer. I would also like to know which of
my credits would transfer. I am a soldier in the US Army and have attended 2 different colleges. I have credits
from both. I would also like to know more about the enrollment process.
more information regarding classes and location
...accept me into the college and begin planning my cirriculum so that i can graduate on time from there.
Please send me more information on tranferable classes from Pierce College.
I've not looked at UW Tacoma yet as the Masters programs aren't interesting to me at the moment. I already
have a B.S., but would like to continue onward.
It would greatly helpful if the process of assessing my finances for financial aid looked at my net worth per year
and not the hours worked. I am currently a volunteer of the Washington Service Corps and while my status does
show 40 hours a week of work, it is work I don't get paid for and I have found that that bnegatively impacts my
financial aid standing.
contact me and help me make sure my credits will transfer
I would love to be able to understand the transfer process better. I am new to this. It is extremely confusing. I
want to make sure that I am doing everything that I can to make it into UWTac. I hurt my back and have had a
rough go at everything for the past couple of quarters. I am a very good student, but, I really want to make
sure I have everything that I need to get into this fine school.
UW Tacoma should offer BS in Nursing. Not just RN to BSN program. UW of Seattle does it. Why cant UW of
Tacoma?
nothing they haven't already done.
Not sure, I won't transfer until 2008.
Invitation to meet with advisor. Advisor should be able to explain all needed information; degrees, the course
details, etc
Lighten up on the foreign language requirement. I have a 3.2 in 1 session quarter of Spanish, but I am a
disabled veteran and have more important and challenging things to face right now.
Send me your literature and it should help thanks
I am interested in pursuing a BSN. My long term goals include an MN degree. Information regarding these
degree requirements along with general degree information would be great.
I am interested in attending UW Tacoma but I am unfamiliar as to what degree they offer for the education field.
I want to be a secondary mathematics teacher but I have heard that UW Tacoma only offers it in a masters
degree is this true?
Have Foriegn language online classes.
By letting me in particular which courses I'm currently taking up that are considered as GTE for UW Tacoma. I'd

also like to be able to speak with the new representative of UW at Pierce Ft Steilacoom sometime too.
UW Tacoma is already doing what they can to expidite my transfer process. I am currently keeping in touch with
Ms.Danah Madden and she has been of tremendous help. Thanks.
At this time I'm currently stationed at Ft.Leonard Wood, Mo. So right now I'm content with on-line class and
would perfer to keep that way. With my schedule in the military
I need on-line courses for an Education BA Degree. Accept more of my credits from Pierce College
Make it obvious to students at community colleges that transfers are very possible and that there are many
options for transfer opportunities.
Have Construction Management degree program that is available in the evening as this will allow for people who
currently work in the construction trades to get a degree. Currently there are no universities that offer a evening
degree program. It would not take much effort to modify UW current full time CM degree program into a evening
degree program as the classes are already developed.
Do you have Masters programs? This survey did not ask what degree we already have. I already have a BA - so
I'm more intersted in what Masters programs UW-T has. I'm taking supplemental classes at Pierce for work. But
now that I'm in the study mode again 20+ years after receiving my BA, I'm thinking, maybe, I'd be interested in
pursuing a Masters.
I want to get my degree in Archaeology or Anthropology and I'm hoping to take as many classes down here as
possible.
Make the transfer process easy to take part in. Don't make people fill out form after form of the same
information.
Transportation/Parking
Tacoma needs to build a metro system from Olympia to Seattle. Once the system is in place, there will be few or
no transportation issues for UWT. Students will be able to attend the UWT in greater numbers.
Provide more resources for people of color and economically disadvantage students.
As tuition increase so does the interest in loans and the amount borrowed. Change the process for borrowing
money. Show the community with action that UWT is indeed making the effort to improve in this area.
UW Tacoma should have a strong connection with employers who would greatly benefit from future graduating
students. I know that once a student graduates from a UWT, there are no guarantees.
The service of providing students to transfer from a Community College to a 4 year University is great at UW
Tacoma. UWT should make the same effort(or more) in providing a proces in which graduating students are
matched with employers.
I'd like to meet with my advisor before school and make a plan fo r my degree. I am on Voc rehab and am older,
so I have lots of responsibilities, to include a busines, family, animals, and maintain my home. I am the kind
that needs to have direction and a plan of attack. I would prefer to take core classes only in the Fall and Winter
and take any additional elective courses in the summer months.
Start a History Program like the UW Seattle campus.
Provide accurate, helpful information in handling career-based decisions through career advisor or any other
methods.
I really do not know what is required of me before i can transfer. i only have about 25 credits now, and i know i
need to improve my GPA. I guess i need to research more before i can think about tranfering
Provide other colleges like Pierce College information to allow students that are on a 4 year track starting at
Pierce the information they need to get an idea of the costs and options that are available to students. Also to
provide them with whatever course prerequisites need to be satisfied. This could be done early if the schools
worked together. Then as students we would have what we need to succeed already in our outlines. Right now
they are two very distinct phases and information flow from UW to Pierce seems restricted at best.
The transfer process was very easy and was handled completely by the Nursing Program office. I have no
complaints about my transfer. Everyone that I have had contact with at UWT has been informative and helpful.
Keep up the good work!
offer my degree plan and have online courses so i can participate while deployed.

process. Being a LPN, I wish there was a flex program at UW.
Taking majority of community college credits even if the students pursue a different bachelors major from
Associates.
Have a detailed outline of what needs to be done, and make sure staff is willing to help at all costs.
UW CAN IMPROVE MY TRANSFER PROCESS BY FURNISHING ME WITH SOME INFORMATION ON THEIR
TRANSFER PROCEDURE.
Help provide advising as to classes and financial aid available.
All my credits all ready have been transfered.
Provide a major in Japanese language, culture, and some art classes.
Please increase degree programs in egnineering fields.
Let me know what my current credits apply to with your degree programs, and to which one most if not all my
credits will apply.
I am interested in Health Information Management and my husband is interested in Database Administration
Management & Design. If you offer any programs regarding those 2 career paths we would be very interested in
considering continuing our education at UWT.
Offer a Logistics/Distribution major and I'm in. This area is a big part of our lives yet no college or University is
offering a course near this area. I was descouraged and surprised.
If at all possible, if there is not already one, design an in depth list comparing community college courses to
those offered at UW Tacoma. The purpose would be to simplify the transfer of credits that people have earned at
their previous colleges to UW Tacoma standards.
When I actually finished Pierce College I was interested in UW Tacoma since it was reasonably close to my
home. However, the school did not offer anything that I was interested in. I recieved my B.S. in Health care
management in 2005. I am currently taking pre-req. for a M.S. degree in Homeland Security and Safety
Engineering Which I am paying for out of my own pocket.
I attemtpted to get into the M.S. of Strategic planning W/ critical infrastructure but I was told it was no longer
offered to Washington Air National Guard memebers as a scholarship. I figured if I was going to pay for my own
degree I might as well pay for something I actually want. No one from your institution seemed interested in
explaining all the options that may have been available so I went elsewhere.
Help me to see how you could benifit my degree better than going to a online college that would work with my
work schedule
I have completed my transfer. My advisor Dannah Madden was the best and helped me the whole way. I've
been impressed with the great, friendly staff members I've met.
I feel a little bit lost without a campus orientation. I've been told that will come later.
Send out more information to interested students to describe the transger process.
Accept me in the college when I submit my application
I think the online registration is good but I'm leary about payment times and how to do it. I am sure I will figure
it out along the way.
have transfer representatives visit pierce college at Ft lewis campus
I'm not sure what I'm doing next. I have to find a job so I can keep my house. The job at the moment is more
pressing than the ability to keep going to school, however, I still plan to get my BA.
Make a list of freshman and sophomore level classes a person needs to take before transferring to start the
junior year at the "UWT".
Nothing, they have done a good job already, THANK YOU
set me up with a personal advisor who will help me find money to be able to attend.
If you were to get a Civil Engineering program I would attend UW Tacoma
I would like for all my credits from the community colleges to transfer and be able to get financial aid
(preferrable grants). I would also like for the enrolling process to be easy and smooth and be able for the staff
and faculty to provide me with excellent resources that will best fit my needs academically.
Make the educational degree BA optional (I heard that its only a mater's program)

Question 28
What can UW Tacoma do to improve your transfer process?
Pierce
Be completely open and comprehensive with the transfer process and the variability and opportunities each
major has to offer.
Question 28
What can UW Tacoma do to improve your transfer process?
SPS
I work full time and go to school full time. I don't have a lot of free time or money. Cost is, by far, the most
important aspect to consider when deciding my choice of college. Unfortunately, I work in Olympia, and the
chances of me transferring to Tacoma are very unlikely. Though you may have a great school, I don't have the
resources or the time to commute. Due to my parents’ income, I do not qualify for any financial aid. If I were to
be offered some financial help (NOT a loan), that is the only thing that would persuade my decision to transfer
to Tacoma.
Find out if you offer the same classes I will need to take to complete my ATA-Paralegal certificate. And if the
same type financial aid that I am enrolled in at SPSCC will transfer over. I am on a displaced homemaker
training program.
I am seriously considering transfering directly because of violence & harassment that has happened to me that I
in no way provoked. The school has not adequately respected my interests in being protected form the
harrassors. I am still in process of getting over a concussion that happened to me on SPSCC.
If an advisor from UW could contact me with information that would be helpful to me, I would be sicerely
interested.
Since I work full time and have a family, any alternative methods of education other than in-class during the day
or evening would make the program very attractive to me. Either online courses or meeting one a month on
weekends would be best for my current situation.
I haven't toured the campus yet, so any discussion of transferring is a moot point right now.
When it comes time to decide, I will want to talk directly with a counselor at UW Tacoma in order to make my
decision.
I think the biggest concern I have in transferring is how many of my credits will be accepted. I know some
schools drastically limit the number of credits they will accept in a transfer. Evergreen on the other hand will
take 45 credits towards a bachelors degree, and I would need something like that to even consider a school.
Since I have not been through it yet I have no feedback to offer
Not assume I'm transferring to UW-T while conducting a survey originating from an unsolicited source. I never
have even considered attending this school and that has not changed. Most likely UW-T doesn't offer courses
related to my major of choice.
financial aid support
offer Computer aided drafting classes.
offer an entry level nursing Bachelor's program.
Offer a BA in Psychology and a full scholarship
Provide information about acceptable classes/credits that will transfer.
Hold on-site informational meetings at SPSCC or have an advisor at SPSCC that students can contact for
questions.
accept spscc horticulture credits/spside down as evergreen
Keep up to date with community college class to ensure credits will transfer.
More information about the campus and classes would be beneficial.
Contact me personally.
What are your future plans for Chinese? I had planned to double major in Chinese and Business. But all those
programs are only offered in Seattle. I would love to attend Tacoma if they had the programs.

Question 28
What can UW Tacoma do to improve your transfer process?
SPS
To be honest I do not plan to transfer to UW Tacoma. I plan to go to either TCC or CWU to get my Parmedic
cert. One thing that is helpful for students transfering credits is to make a list of all classes needed first and give
it to the student so they can see what classes they might have missed. Lots of my friends in my fire program are
stuck for another quartar because the forgot to sign up for a class.
I am undecided as to how the UW Tacoma can improve my transfer process as I have not fully looked into the
process and what it entails. I do know that I would like to have the courses I took at SPSCC fully transfer. I feel
retaking courses wastes time that could be spent elsewhere. I also look to a college/university that offers the
classes I need when I need them. One that is flexible with those that have a family/career but still want to
complete their degree. College is very expensive. Not only is the price per class pricey but also the cost of texts
and supplies. If funding and financial aide are not made available to part time students then I belive it
discourages people from applying. Some people need more time to complete the degree and can only take 5
credits per quarter due to work/family schedules. I would say these things are the most important factors in my
decision regarding continuing my education beyond the Associates degree. Thank you.
Not considering transfering at this time. I've only taken 2 classes so far and depending on my current job, I may
not take any more.
Be able to access the information needed to decide if UW Tacoma is the right college to transfer to.
Question 28
What can UW Tacoma do to improve your transfer process?
TCC
Financing is the gateway to higher education. Being able to provide assistance (in lieu of loans) will determine
the institution I will choose to attend.
Talk to me more about it. UW seattle is my goal at hte moment because I want to try to get into physical or
occupational therapy. Maybe even linguistics... And I don't believe UW tacoma can help me there?
Offer the program that I am interested in
More solid wording about the University of Washington Tacoma IT transfer degree. At TCC what is required for
the transfer degree has changed at least twice since I started. There also a lingering question 30 credits of
Foreign Language, Humanities, and Social Studies that my Department Head and TCC Advisors can’t answer if I
need or not.
Life is full of responsibilities, and most of us have to work close to fulltime. So the most important things for me
are financial (low cost) and a variety of online courses.
allow those with a high G.P.A. at community colleges to have a higher priority than those transfering out of
highschool, for those who are transfering have more of a college mentality than those coming from highschool.
Offer more science based classes. I will most likely be attending UW Seattle, I would consider attending UW
Tacoma but you have NO SCIENCE classes available. I guess it is a good place if you want a degree in art
appreciation. Please do not further dumb down your institution to appeal to the lowest common denominator.
UW Tacoma would be my first choice so I did not have to commute to Seattle.
Having more direct service to Tacoma Community College would be nice. Also having someone who can answer
questions at the college.
Educate TCC advisors! I was steered in completely the wrong direction by several members of the advising
center at TCC because they were either mis-informed or un-informed about UWT offerings and requirements.
Perhaps some training would help overcome this for future TCC students, particularly those with previous college
coursework before TCC.
Dual enrollment is great. Representatives from UW at TCC would be good. More support and academic planning
is essential.
More transfere fairs available.
It would help to have a liason between the schools to help speed up the application process and to help us with
all of our needs.

Question 28
What can UW Tacoma do to improve your transfer process?
TCC
I will likely not be transferring to UW Tacoma because my major is in Mechanical Engineering.
The last packet I received was outdated and the requirements had changed, so I ended up having to take more
classes at TCC. Keeping your materials updated would be very helpful. Also, it took over 5 weeks to get the
requested materials the first time and I never received them at all the last time I requested them.
My transfer process has been very easy. The business program explicitly defines the prerequisites that are
required for entry along with an equivalency guide, set up by school, on the University of Washington website. I
liked the University of Washington Tacoma's Accounting program better that the other schools in the area,
without having to move to Seattle.
Possibly e mail me, I am somewhat uncertain if I can pursue a degree in humanities at UW Tacoma, I am
currently working towards an Associates Degree in Applied Arts and Science and have hopes of transferring. I
am interested in editing, literature, poetry, and possibly teaching.
I won't know until I am in the process.
When I applied to UW Tacoma, it was a very simple process. There were many people willing to help and answer
any questions I had. I don't have any complaints/improvements about the transfer process.
Would need to know if my associates in applied sciences degree would be transferable and if there is a 4 year
degree in Logistics/transportation/supply change management available.
think about a student from all aspects, not only GPA but also some other areas.
As for the Social Work program, it is currently 5.26.2007 and I have yet to find out whether or not I have been
admitted. Every other college I applied to expected me to let them know whether or not I would be attending
their school by May 1st. I wish UW-Tacoma would align their notification of admission with other schools so if
I'm not accepted, I could still enroll at another school. For example, I was accepted to UW-Seattle, but couldn't
confirm admission until I found out from UW-Tacoma. It's now too late for me to attend UW-Seattle if I am not
accepted into UW-Tacoma.
-Notify students of important documents and when they were received and if are some missing. Karin Dalensky
did an excellent job of this but some students didn't received the same emails that I did. Maybe some students
weren't lucky enough to have their profiles assigned to her. I don't know how it works at the UWT.
-Having an advisor available to talk to personally. Not as a group.
-Detailed explanations of required transfer admissions courses. Have an advisor that is knowledgeable of the
required transfer admission courses. For example, in order to be considered for admissions, one needs 4 yrs of
english and this type of math. Many students didn't meet the those specific core subject requirements and were
immediately excluded from the transfer evaluation. It would be extremely helpful if there was someone who
understands the core subject requirements and can tell the student want they need to be considered for
admissions.
1) Faster response time to student inquiries about admissions.
2) Have a "Transfer Tuesdays or Thursdays" for prospective students.
3) Better coordination with community college transfer advisors on prerequisite classes for transferring to UW-
Tacoma.
4) More information about off campus housing options on the UW-Tacoma website.
As of right now, I am not preparing to transfer, but once I do, I want to be as informed as possible about the
whole process.
I have applied to attend Lesley University's education program that will be housed at T.C.C. I would like
information on your institution as a backup plan. Since the Lesley program is just starting in our area, I am a
little nervous about whether or not it will actually happen.
The transfer process seems to be designed so as to be sufficiently vague that students don't know what to do,
but adequately precise that the onus is upon the student. Also, and I realize that your staff are overworked, but
some of them can be rather snotty about discussing solutions with students - as though we're inconvenient to
deal with. It's a minor point, I know, but we are the reason those people's jobs actually exist.
It'd be nice if technology could somehow be harnessed to reduce the sheer amount of time one requires to
complete all of the relevant paper work.
Be there for any questions that I might have. Be available for help.
Send representitives to speak individually with student interested in the transfer program.
Offer early advising to Community College students via e-mail, well before expected graduation with AA. Rarely
have the opportunity to attend transfer fairs, but would like information.

Question 28
What can UW Tacoma do to improve your transfer process?
TCC
Come into our nursing class and talk about possibly transfering to UW Tacoma because many of my classmates
would like to get their BSN there, but they may not have the time to research it right now.
Send more representatives that participate in event in the cafeteria that let student inform about the business
school and how to get into the business school. Most student here like to major in business and it would benefit
the school and community as a whole. The UW can also send e-mail and information regarding UW transfer
policy or show video of the campus life. It would help students see why they should go to UW-Tacoma or will be
be hired when graduated from that school.
The school can assist me in finding out what classes that I may have to take that can help me getting into law
school.
I am not yet sure when I will start working on my BA. My employment situation is changing, so I have to figure
out what hours I will be available for studies. I would love to attend UW Tacoma because it is close to home. I
am hoping to be able to attend day classes rather than evenings.
I still have several pre-requisite classes to take, and am not sure if I can take those at UW or must finish them
at TCC.
I think I mainly need help with the transfer process. I do not know what I exactly have to do. How much it
would cost. Financial aid. Scholarships. If I could talk or email back and forth with would also be helpful. As of
today I am still in my prereqs so I help needed would be down the line a little.
If you offered a BA for nursing, I would already be a student, as would alot of other students from TCC. The
problem with the nursing program at TCC is that with the pre-requisites, you spend just as much time as if you
went to a 4-year, but leave with an AA. The only local 4-year with nursing is PLU, and they are expensive. If you
polled the nursing students at TCC about whether they would transfer to UW Tacoma if nursing were available,
you would have a large number of students say yes. Another good thing about the nursing students at TCC is
that nursing is so competative, we are all straight A students.
I would need to talk in person to an advisor and visit the campus.
Make your programs more available to working adults.
Establish a new medical school.
In my case, I received an associates in Arts & Sciences back in 1987 from Tacoma Community College. I met
with a UW Tacoma counselor to enroll in your Accounting or Business Mgt programs only to find out I have to go
back to TCC and take 50 credits before I can enter either of these programs. As an older student whose been in
the work force for the last 22 years (in business) I can't see why it is I must return to TCC and take 10 credits of
a foreign language etc. etc., after I already did two years and received an associates back in 1987 - extremely
frustrating!

Question 33
What programs or degrees could UW Tacoma offer on your
campus which would be of interest to you?
Pierce
BS in Dental Hygiene.
Associates in Arts for creative writing and Bachelors in Arts for English
Theater in the arts of acting and drama
I would be interested in advanced B.A. degree option. Child Development/Education
Medical technician program Ultrasound
Education degree
Occupational safety and health courses.
Sciences
The only programs I'm interested in currently are business, and later economics. I would have attended UWT if
dorms were available, and if it were located in a different city.
Safety and emergency planning would be nice.
Elementary Education
Bachelor of Dental Hygiene
Mathematics
Architecture
A Nursing program that gave me my BSN
BA in Education or English
Nursing, sonography, English and teaching degrees, computer science
I would be interested if there were more religious studies that catered to the large Christian population.
Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering
I would have liked to have access to Engineering programs at UWT. Since there are not any I have chosen to go
to St. Martin's because it is closer to home.
None. I'm going to WSU.
I am planning on attending City U to acquire a BA in Education degree with a K-8 general certification and a K-
12 special education certification. I prefer their program because the class schedule will remain consistent
throughout the entire 2 years of the program. Most schedules for BA in Education programs through community
colleges change each quarter so you must adjust your life to fit your school schedule every few months.
Dance chorography
Occupational therapy
N/A, on line student only
Anything in the engineering field...mechanical, electrical, robotics
I am military and the earmyu program offers an amazing human resources degree plan and if UW Tacoma
offered a plan that would turn that effort into a BA I know a lot of people that would take advantage.
Photography
Criminal Justice, Psychology, Humanities
Any classes within the Social Science area of study.
Law and Justice / Criminal Justice.

Question 33
What programs or degrees could UW Tacoma offer on your
campus which would be of interest to you?
Pierce
Sociology
Chemistry
I would have been in educational degrees or careers regarding education.
Bachelor in Alcoholism and Drug Abuse or in Counseling
Social Sciences online. I am enrolled in the DDP at Washington State University. UW Tacoma did not offer
anything in my field of interest either at the Tacoma campus or online.
Electrical Engineering, Nanotechnology
Human resources
Professional Teaching Certificate Endorsement
Master programs for Teachers
BS in Biology, BS in Math, Bs in Chemistry, Teacher Certification.
I am in Running Start and only at Pierce for one more year while in High School. No answer to this question
Nursing, and medical billing and coding
BA in Elementary Education and History
Question 33
What programs or degrees could UW Tacoma offer on your
campus which would be of interest to you?
SPS
A degree focusing on psychology.
Human Services (relating to non-profits, service learning, etc)
Advanced counseling programs including certifications in adventure therapy and other "alternative" methods
Latin American Cultural Studies
I'm personally most interested in philosophy so that would be my number one pick. However just offering a
variety and allowing students to take those for dual credits would be quite convient and would definetly have me
thinking more about UW at Tacoma.
Advanced AutoCAD
Architectural Design Studios
Mechanical, Structural and Civil Engineering Prep courses
I was planing on transferring to the UW, however, I ended up transfering to Evergreen and just received my BA,
because UW Tacoma did not offer a BA in linguistics (though the Seattle campus did) and Evergreen was
extremely flexible about accepting all of my credits, even those from a foreign university I attended.
Nursing
Something along the lines of nursing
Social sciences
Biology BS
Nursing BSN - not just the ADN to BSN

Question 33
What programs or degrees could UW Tacoma offer on your
campus which would be of interest to you?
SPS
A very focused and intense forensics course list.
Want to have Accounting or Business for BA. Im planning to transfer to St. Martin University since its nearby.
Athletic Training
Anything with linked art and writing classes
I am very interested in the different fields of anthropology and want to persue my advanced degree in that. If it
were offered at SPSCC I would definitely consider finishing my BA there
Accounting
WSU recently dropped their cohort program for Education from Centralia College, and of the larger state
colleges, CWU is the only one offering and Education B.A. at nearby Pierce College in Steilacoom. If SPSCC could
provide some sort of 4 year transfer degree on their campus, it would be helpful to the many that live in the
South Sound and the surrounding communities. It won't help me, but it would be a good option for others.
Bachelor of arts, with a 4 year architecture program
Question 33
What programs or degrees could UW Tacoma offer on your
campus which would be of interest to you?
TCC
B.S. in Nursing
Physical sciences.
BS in Civil Engineering
Engineering, Science
None at TCC for post-bas like me, doing nursing pre-reqs cheaper at TCC than at a 4-year university. It would
be nice to see career changers' needs addressed, especially higher-level degreed professionals who want a
Masters in a different field or perhaps another Bachelors in a different field.
Biology/medicine
Respiratory therapy
Architecture and Chemistry
I would take a look at any B.S. or B.A degrees offered here. The one I would really be interested in would be the
degrees offered already at UW tacoma with Criminology. I think that would be a interesting combination. I would
be interested in attended you university next spring 2008.
A science field other than Environmental Sciences
Biology
