					Mahbub ul Haq Human Development Centre, is a think tank and a premier policy research
institute of South Asia, based in Islamabad. One of its key activities is to prepare annual reports
on human development in South Asia that are internationally acclaimed and used widely by
policy makers, academicians and development practitioners both inside and outside the region.
The Centre is also one of the key partners in a Research Consortium on Educational Outcomes
and Poverty (RECOUP) led by the University of Cambridge, U.K. The Centre wishes to fill the
vacancies for the following positions:

Senior Research Fellow
The candidates should have
   1- M Phil in Economics or Development Studies from a reputed University preferably from
       abroad.
   2- Knowledge and understanding of human development, particularly issues related to
       poverty, economic growth, education, gender empowerment, health and governance.
   3- Advanced research and analytical skills.
   4- Demonstrated writing ability is the key requirement.

Research Fellow Human Development Report (I position)

The candidates should have
   1. A Masters degree in Economics or Development Studies from a reputed University
       preferably from abroad.
   2. Knowledge and understanding of human development, particularly issues related to
       poverty, education, gender empowerment, health and governance.
   3. Advanced research and analytical skills.
   4. Advanced quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills. Knowledge of econometric or
       statistical softwares will be considered a plus.
   5. Excellent writing skills.

Research Fellow Education Project (2 positions)

Education Project Position 1: Public Private Partnership in schooling specialist

The candidates should have
   1. A Masters degree in Sociology, Anthropology, Economics or Development Studies from
       a reputed University preferably from abroad.
   2. Knowledge and understanding of human development, particularly issues related to
       poverty, education, gender empowerment, health and governance.
   3. The Candidate is expected to undertake research work by combining quantitative and
       qualitative data on Public Private Partnership in Schooling, map the financing of public
       education from the federal and provincial sources; build partnership with local NGOs for
       community mobilization so as to conduct focus group discussions in our sample research
       communities; produce quarterly and annual progress reports; handle part of RECOUP
       project’s communication activities with stakeholders; keep track of donor intervention in
       Pakistan’s education sector and update research notes on Aid and Education Policy;
       prepare policy briefs; make presentations on RECOUP activities in conferences and
       seminars; Contribute chapters to volumes of international development research series
       books on education and its outcomes; produce working papers and articles for peer
       reviewed journals; prepare qualitative field survey manuals; produce working papers on
       qualitative research methodology with team leaders; produce reports on RECOUP’s
       qualitative field surveys; and facilitate work on RECOUP-MHHDC seminar series.
    4. Also expected to work on cross cutting themes on education and its outcomes in poverty
       alleviation through skill acquisition; health and fertility; overcoming disability; and
       citizenship with a focus on youth and gender.
    5. Advanced research and analytical skills.
    6. Advanced quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills. Knowledge of econometric or
       statistical softwares will be considered a plus.
    7. Excellent writing skills -- an original writing sample, in electronic form, which reflects
       writers own train of thought, should be submitted for evaluation.

Education Project Position 2: Health, Disability, Youth Gender Citizenship specialist

The candidates should have
   1. A Masters degree in Anthropology, Sociology, Development Studies or Economics from
       a reputed University preferably from abroad.
   2. Knowledge and understanding of human development, particularly issues related to
       poverty, education, gender empowerment, health and governance.
   3. The Candidate is expected to undertake research work by combining quantitative and
       qualitative data on Health and Fertility; Disability; and Youth, Gender and Citizenship
       and their role in educational outcomes and poverty; collect research and policy material
       on concept of citizenship, its inclusion and evolution in the national curricula and its role
       in shaping minds; understand possible pathways to skill acquisition and poverty
       reduction; prepare policy briefs; make presentations on RECOUP activities in
       conferences and seminars; Contribute chapters to volumes of international development
       research series books on education and its outcomes; produce working papers and articles
       for peer reviewed journals; prepare qualitative field survey manuals; produce working
       papers on qualitative research methodology with team leaders; produce reports on
       RECOUP’s qualitative field surveys; and facilitate work on RECOUP-MHHDC seminar
       series.
