WHY WE CHOSE JCU

SAN D RA H EINEN – GER MANY
        M AST E R OF B USINESS ADMINISTR ATIO N
“All in all, studying at JCU was very enjoyable, flexible and invaluable for my future career. Doing
the MBA Program at JCU was one of the best decisions in my life. Cairns is a fantastic place to
study and live; it is close to beautiful beaches, the tropical rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef.
The university campus, being situated in such a natural location, was a refreshing change from the
pace I have experienced in bigger cities.

JCU in Cairns offers comparably small class sizes and a fairly small campus with modern facilities.
I found the lecturers very approachable and they provided good quality feedback on my work.
The staff in the International Student Office are extremely friendly and helped me with whatever
problem I had. Because of the fact that JCU has many overseas students I could meet, befriend
and interact with students from various cultural backgrounds.

My recommendations to future students would be to take the opportunity to study at JCU as it
offers quality, flexibility and teaching excellence – and all this in a unique tropical setting. Stay as
long as you can so you can fit in travel and really experience life there.”

“I chose JCU because of the impressive course structure and JCU offered the subjects I wanted.
If I still have to pick the best things about JCU then I would go for the friendly attitude of the
staff and students. People are so very friendly and helpful that they make you feel at home
the very first day you arrive. The location of JCU, the infrastructure, sophisticated labs, easily
approachable staff, multicultural environment, are a few other best things to point out.

My JCU degree has fetched me the job I was looking for as a Junior Analyst. I was well exposed
to the latest technologies while pursuing my education at JCU. This has very much helped me
cope up with the high demands at work. I am confident that the degree at JCU will take me high
        and above in my career.

I strongly believe that Townsville is perfectly suited for education. The nice little city is calm,
quiet and peaceful. There are a lot of wonderful things you can do to relax. The cost of living in
Townsville is also much lower compared to the capital cities. I have to say that Townsville has
        the perfect blend of everything.”

(AWARDE D AN AUSTR ALIAN LEADERSH IP AWAR D)
“I chose JCU because it was the best in my region (Asia-Pacific) to study marine mammal
conservation management. JCU was very close to home, easier for field work, and I liked the
tropical environment of Queensland (not too cold for a tropical species like me). I also had a very
prompt response from the Professor upon my initial inquiry re. marine mammal research.

I feel my knowledge of marine mammal science (and marine conservation in general) was
upgraded significantly during my stay in Australia. Mainly because I did more in depth literature
reviews, discussions and research at JCU, supported by online journals and easy-to-access
expertise and reference. Having my own working space on campus with 24 hours broadband
provided a considerable support for my work.”

“JCU was one of the two universities in Australia, which offered MIT-MBA and I chose JCU. In my view, this is a degree which has made
me very employable and has suited my interests. I always wanted to do IT, as it’s a tool without which the world cannot do business
efficiently. So my interests in Business, armed with qualifications in IT, have given me the confidence to diversify into a lot of fields.

James Cook University has almost one to one teaching at least at Master’s level. Coming from India, from classes of not less than a 45,
being a student at JCU was a treat. The staff and teachers here being so informal and friendly, has helped me achieve more and in a very
good environment. Also with students coming from all parts of the world to learn different things, it never made me feel out of place as I
                                        was one of them.

As of now, I have been employed by my university itself as a Technical Officer for the School of Business. Getting your first job in the
university before I actually finished my degree has given me a head start. From here I would look for a manager’s role either in an IT solution
company or any other company using IT intensively for their business, which is what my degree has qualified me for.

Even after seeing a lot of Australia, give me a choice to live in a place and my answer would definitely be Townsville. A small friendly
place, with amenities of a big city and views which are breathtaking, one cannot ask for more. Especially for students, it is a cheap place to
live in, it saves time commuting where most students use push bikes, which is not only eco friendly, but keeps you fit and saves you money.
The various cultural activities, both organized by the university and the city also help you to reconnect to your roots.

James Cook University knows how to pamper its students. Right from the students getting picked up at the airport by the staff of JCU,
to the time they depart to their countries, the whole journey is a pleasant one. With the efforts of both the teachers and the staff at the
International Student Center, who go out of their way to help students in any matter, I would encourage more students to try and become a
part of JCU, to leave them unforgettable memories while enriching themselves with “quality education in a unique environment!”

* International students applying for scholarship support for their research degree are required to show evidence, at the time of application, that they have obtained an
English language (IELTS) score of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.0 in all four sub-scores. See forms and eligibility criteria at www.jcu.edu.au/office/grs/scholarships/index.html

If you meet the academic requirements but not the English language entry requirement, you will be given a packaged offer, which will combine studying English at the JCU
English Language Centre or other approved provider, plus your offer of placement in a JCU academic program. This will allow you to get a student visa for the total length
of your studies in Australia.

Please note that the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) also has certain rules relating to student visas which, depending on the visa assessment level of
your country of citizenship, may require you to sit an English test even though you meet other English language requirements set by JCU.
