Digital Learning

The following is a brief description of the contents in this Digital Learning program.
Each Learning Module comes with a video, activity and a printable sheet with practice
problems.

Learning Module: Money
Video—Hands on Math: Counting Coins
A young lady talks about coins, contrasting value, size and color. The video switches to
a class that finds several ways to equal \$1.
Activity—Skate Shop: Making Change
Student must buy skateboard, helmet, kneepads, wheels, shirt and stickers for under \$10.
The student must make change correctly. If not, he/she is penalized 10 cents.

Learning Module: Number Sense
Video—Break Them Apart
Activity—In and Out: Subtraction
Using a skate board theme, the student must complete patterns using subtraction. Then,
the student must identify the pattern. Upon successful completion, the student gets to
maneuver a skate board and perform tricks.

Learning Module: Subtraction
Video—Draw a Picture
The video illustrates the use of drawing a picture as a strategy in solving word problems.
Activity—Monster Math: Subtraction Practice
Student practices three-digit subtraction. He/She must alert the computer if regrouping is
necessary.

Learning Module: Time
Video—Time for Soccer
Soccer practice begins and the coach gives each student a calendar to keep track of
practice dates. The video explains the parts of a monthly calendar.
Activity—My Calendar
Student plays the “Memory” game matching pairs. After a couple of matches, the student
returns to matching pairs. The game continues until 8 questions have been answered.

Learning Module: Multiplication Facts
Video—Multiply by Nine
A cowboy sings about multiplying by nine. The video shows students how to use their
hands to multiply by nine.
Activity—Half-pipe: Multiplication
Using a skate board theme, the student answers single digit multiplication facts. Upon
successful completion, the student gets to maneuver a skate board and perform tricks.

Learning Module: More Multiplication
Video—Choose an Operation
An animated worm invades an apple orchard. It coaches the students on whether to use
the apples.
Activity—In and Out Multiplication
Using a skate board theme, the student must complete patterns using multiplication.
Then, the student must identify the pattern. Upon successful completion, the student gets
to maneuver a skate board and perform tricks.

Learning Module: Division Facts
Video—Sharing Computers
Eight students figure out how to share four computers through division.
Activity—Monster Math: Multiflash
The student uses a number pad to determine missing factors and products.

Learning Module: Perimeter and Area
Video—Hands on Math: Area
A young lady uses a geoboard to measure area. The video then switches to students
using a giant geoboard to demonstrate area.
Activity—Geoboard: Perimeter
Student build shapes by using rubber bands and a geoboard.

Learning Module: Fraction Concepts
Video—Fraction Café: Sharing Pizza
Animated characters discuss equal sizes of pizza.
Activity—Fraction Café: Lasagna Mania
The student must put the toppings on the fractional part given.

Learning Module: Decimals
Video—Tenths and Hundredths
Animated video using base blocks. The base blocks are used to illustrate decimals and
fractions.
Activity—Math Maze: Decimals
The game is designed similar to the arcade game “Frogger”. The student must choose
the decimal that would fall between the two decimals given by the computer.

Learning Module: More Division
Video—Interpreting Remainders
The video shows students figuring out how many minivans their soccer team will need to
transport the 15 players to their game.
Activity—Place Value Blocks: Dividing
The student uses place value blocks and rings to divide problems.

Learning Module: Probability
Video—Probability Game
Three students play a game of probability in a game show setting. To the questions,
students must reply: certain, likely, unlikely, or impossible.
Activity—Slug Races: Probability
Student selects one of eight spinners. Three slugs begin climbing a vine in a race to the
top. Activity contains humorous sound effects.
