CAMP GUIDE 2011
WELCOME TO
YMCA
The overall goal of YMCA Camping is to help children and teens grow in
spirit, mind, and body. We’re sure you will find a Y camp (or combination of
camps) that is a perfect fit for your child. There are many ways we strive to have
“something for everyone.”
Here’s how:
• Age-appropriate programs for preschool to high school
• 35 Convenient locations throughout the Greater Indianapolis area
• Early- and late-stay options for working parents at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE
• Day Camp hours are 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. daily, but campers may be
dropped off as early as 7:00 a.m. and can be picked up as late as 6:00 p.m.
• Affordable day and overnight programs and Y For All
• Weekly or part-time rates are available.
• The Y is unique because your membership rates and program fees
are based on total household income. The Y is able to offer this sliding
fee scale thanks to the generous donors whose contributions enable us to
realize our mission of being open and accessible to all.
• Half day, full day and even overnight camping programs
• A wide range of program options
• Four ways to register: Online, in person, fax, or by mail (See details on inside
back cover)
• Qualified staff that are carefully screened and trained. They receive over
40 hours of intense training in camp programs
• Building assets in children: YMCA camping programs are designed to give
children the support they need to become successful adults. Feedback from
parents surveyed last year said:
• 95% felt that Y staff are friendly, courteous, and approachable.

WELLNESS CHALLENGE AT Y CAMP!
NEW
BRAND NEW FOR 2011!
We’re very excited that we have developed a brand new and fun program that
will be coming to many of our YMCA Day Camps this summer- our “Wellness
Challenge at Y Camp” program! “Wellness Challenge at Y Camp” isn’t a
specific camp, rather it is a one hour block during the week for ALL campers,
ages 6 and up, in traditional, sports, and teen camps to complete the wellness
challenge. The goal is for the YMCA to help educate the campers, staff, and
parents about healthy habits and promote healthy lifestyles and well-being.
Each week, campers as well as counselors for camp programs will be given a
specific wellness topic to learn about, as well as a related fun challenge to
complete. Weekly topics with challenges implemented at camp include Physical
Activity, Food Groups, Cardiovascular Exercise, Food Labels, Flexibility, Healthy
Snacks, Strength/Resistance Training, Limiting Sedentary/Screen Time
Activities, and Fitness Assessments. Throughout the summer, professional
YMCA Wellness Staff will provide interactive demonstrations to campers and
camp staff. These demonstrations will focus on cardiovascular, resistance and
flexibility exercises, ensuring that campers begin to learn how physical activity
is an important, but also fun, part of each day. Prizes will be given to campers
successfully completing healthy lifestyle challenges!
Through the generosity of our annual YMCA of Greater Indianapolis Dream Big
Grant campers coming to YMCA Day Camps at the Fishers Y, Jordan Y, Ben
Harrison Y and Ransburg Y will all have a weekly opportunity to participate in
this super fun and healthy new interactive challenge!
