Dear Prospective Applicant:
Thank you for your interest in the proposed University Distance Education Programs.
The Department of Social Work at California State University, Long Beach will
implement these programs in the fall of 2007 at the Channel Islands and Sonoma sites
pending approvals by various accrediting bodies, finalization of funding, and sufficient
student interest. Please take time to review the admission requirements outlined below.
For your convenience and information, relevant admissions and department documents
are available on this website.
• Hold a bachelor's degree, grounded in liberal arts coursework, from a university or
college of recognized standing and be eligible for admission to graduate standing at
CSULB. Have the professional and intellectual ability to perform graduate work
• Hold a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.50 or above (on a 4.0 scale) on
the last 60 semester units or 90 quarter units attempted.
• Submit an official copy of ALL college/university transcripts to both CSU, Long
Beach Enrollment Services and the Department of Social Work, including transcripts
showing a B.A. or B.S. from an accredited college or university.
• Complete the 2007-2008 university application form online at:
http://www.csumentor.edu/admissionapp/grad_apply.asp. You must submit a $55.00
non-refundable application fee with this application. This is the first and most
important document to submit concurrently with transcripts. This application
MUST be in no later than Friday, April 13, 2007. Contact the Center for
International Education (562 985-4106) if you received your undergraduate
degree outside of the United States.
• Complete the Social Work departmental application form. This form can be
downloaded in PDF format and completed by hand.
• Complete personal statement that is part of the departmental application form.
• Complete prerequisite course in Elementary Statistics. Fax a copy of a course
description to the attention of Candace Smith at (562) 985-5514 if you have a question
about a course that you have taken or need to take.
• Submit three letters of recommendation completed on official forms that are part of
the departmental application: one from an academic source, one from a professional
source, and one from either of the two categories.
The application deadline date is Friday, April 13, 2007. Submit your application as
soon as possible to ensure expedient consideration of your admission packet. A
complete application packet consists of the department application, personal statement,
transcripts, and reference letters. Please assemble all of these items before submitting
the packet to our office.
