Who We Are
The AFMETCAL Program, designated 562d Combat Sustainment Group, is the USAF Product Group Manager and technical authority for all metrology and calibration matters. Our highly skilled and specialized workforce is accountable for overseeing the implementation of AFI 21-113 and T.O. 00-20-14.
AFMETCAL Services
Calibration requirements analysis. Assign calibration responsibilities. ATS/ATE Reliability and Calibration Interval Analysis. Implement calibration support strategies compliant with Federal Acquisition Regulations and Air Force Instructions. Participate in USAF and Joint DoD acquisition programs. Minimize calibration costs by utilizing existing support infrastructure. Develop and manage 33K Series calibration procedures (Technical Orders). Educate Program Offices and contractors regarding all calibration requirements. Recommend design changes to improve supportability. Review purchase descriptions, SOOs, and SOWs. Identify contract data requirements for calibration.
ATS/ATE Support
Preferred method for supporting ATS/ATE is a system level calibration approach. Maximum ATS/ATE availability. Calibrate at/near UUT interface. Tailor calibration parameters to support UUT requirements. One calibration interval. One end-item calibration. One calibration procedure.
Why Calibrate?
Proper calibration of Common and Peculiar Support Equipment ensures weapon systems performance tests are accurate, traceable, uniform and reliable. Historical examples have proven early AFMETCAL involvement in the acquisition process results in lower lifecycle support costs and maximum ATS/ATE availability to the customer. Since calibration is critical for the optimum performance of precision weapons systems, AFI 21-113 mandates all PMs shall “Integrate metrology and calibration requirements in weapon system and equipment planning processes.” It is Air Force policy that TMDE used to verify any meaningful (quantifiable) measurements will be calibrated.
