COMMUNICATIONS TEST & MEASUREMENT SOLUTIONS
ONMS Optical Network Management System Workshop
The ONMS (Optical Network Management System, Atlas) is a powerful system for decentralised monitoring of fibre optic links. It requires comprehensive skills to achieve effective usage. Understanding the system and correct alarm evaluation where failures arise are prerequisites for taking the correct action. When an alarm’s message and its meaning are correctly interpreted, the appropriate measures can be taken as quickly as possible, keeping network breakdowns as few as possible. The operation and the practical application ONMS are major topics in this workshop. The user-specific characteristics of each system are particularly covered in detail. The content and duration of the seminar can be adapted to the requirements of the participants.
►Fundamentals and characteristics of fibre optics ► Fundamentals of optical measurement techniques ►Set-up and function of the ONMS ►Handling of the client ►Alarms ►Alarm processing ►Evaluation of graphs ►WEB application of the ONMS ►Definition of links in the system ►Definition of resources in the system Equipment discussed ►ONMS, Atlas System ►OTDR Measurement Techniques
The participants learn how to operate and configure the ONMS. They will be able to collect and interpret measurement results and to classify system alarms. Depending on the defined task they will familiarise themselves with the definition of links and system administrative functions.
Target group
People who have FO network responsibilities for link definition in the ONMS, administrators, system users of the alarm processing in the ONMS, team members of surveillance centres who evaluate system alarms as well as WEB users of the system.
Prerequisites
Fundamentals of optical fibre techniques. Knowledge of the operating system used (Windows and UNIX).
