SCHURTER’s social responsibility strategy is one in which “the concerns of our employees take precedence”: The endeavours of healthy, highly motivated and committed employees, who are eager to learn, are a guarantee of success.
Caring for the environment is a key element of SCHURTER’s corporate culture. We utilise resources efficiently, ensure environmental compatibility of our products and sensitise our employees and partners to environmental concerns.
Economic
Customer focus
Satisfied customers are at the heart of our impressive success in the demanding global electronics market. We provide excellent customer service, short delivery times and professional advice. Our worldwide customer satisfaction rating has increased 4 % in 2005 and reached now 87%. Our vision: to be universally acknowledged for safety and convenience.
Social
Innovations
New and innovative products and services drive our market advantage, vigorous growth and corporate success. We develop solutions for future needs in close collaboration with our customers and subcontractors. SCHURTER is a leading supplier of fuses, circuit breakers, connectors, input systems and EMC products.
Environment
Communication
The “open door” policy performed by our management and our employee forum encourages the exchange of ideas and suggestions. We boost our corporate culture by means of cultural workshops, team meetings and a variety of company-sponsored events. We provide our people with wide-ranging information via Intranet, bulletin boards and knowledge database. Language Courses nurture the dialogue between our workforce from 17 nations and our business partners.
Health and safety
Safety representatives in all departments help to sensitise our people to environmental and safety issues. We employ a systematic hazard analysis to reduce risks. Our employee absence is amongst the lowest in the country, thanks to preventive occupational and leisure safety campaigns. Our ergonomic workplaces reduce the risk of occupational diseases. Besides, healthy nutrition, relaxation techniques and fitness are key elements of our training programme.
Communication
We bear a high environmental responsibility as an industrial enterprise located in the city of Lucerne. In the past two years, our environmental management has dealt with more than 300 enquiries about environmental issues from customers and other interested parties. Customer satisfaction with our environmental performance is rated at 90 %.
Environmentally compatible manufacturing
For years now we have been assessing our products and processes for their environmental impact. While developing new products, we increasingly use recycable materials and components, which can be separated by material content. In addition, we apply energysaving manufacturing processes that yield environmental footprints.
Resources
We improve our environmental performance, by utilising resources and disposing of residues with consideration for the environment. For years we have been reducing our consumption of electricity and water, as well as the amount of waste. Starting in 2006, we are aiming to reduce our CO2 emissions by over 20 %, by converting our heating system from oil to natural gas. We put great emphasis on the maintenance of fundamental environmental and social standards, and we ask our suppliers to do likewise.
Partnerships
Industry partners around the globe rely on our knowhow, product quality and reliability. Our production facilities in Europe, India, and China ensure our international competitiveness. We are represented by sales companies in Europe, Asia, North and South America. Our products are available in over 45 countries.
Quality
We meet the most demanding standards by continuous improving our products and processes. We operate according to the EFQM model for Business Excellence and benchmark ourselves against Best Practice. We employ various methods, such as FMEA, Design Review and Six Sigma, in order to secure ongoing quality enhancements in our development and production processes.
Non-toxic products
The EU RoHS Directive (Restriction of Hazardous Substances), due to come into effect on July 1st 2006, requires the elimination of substances hazardous to health and environment from the manufacture of electric and electronic equipment. Our products have been compliant with these stringent restrictions since January 1st 2006.
Work-life balance
Reconciling family life and work is becoming more and more important. As a family-friendly enterprise we offer flexible working hours, encourage part-time working and provide a subsidised childcare. Our professionally managed staff canteen provides well-balanced and inexpensive meals.
Competency
Specialised knowledge, personal responsibility and self-development are keys to secure our future. We foster the technical and personal competences of our people by offering a diverse programme for training and continuing education.
