Mobile Networks GPRS The Mobile Internet Basics and Protocols
Course Objectives: The participant possess knowledge with respect to network establishment, interfaces and their protocols. He understands the specific processes within the network as well as at the air interface. He is in a position to get to the bottom of network problems. Target Group: Employees of wireless network operators and service providers who are integrating new GPRS-based services into their networks. Prerequisites: Basic understanding of the GSM architecture, network elements and protocols. Additional Seminars: Getting in “GSM – The Classical Mobile Radio Communication System” (see page 46) l Product Workshop “BAT-2700 Workshop” (see page 61) “8630/8631 Workshop” (see page 66)
New services in the area of mobile
network communication such as Mobile Internet Connection require more and more bandwidth and new technologies. The end of this development is not in sight. For the first time GPRS provides the possibility for GSM network operators to offer package based services. It enables the subscribers to exchange data with public data networks such as the Internet. Before the mobile data transmission mode GPRS was introduced only very limited data transmission rates were possible with the conventional GSM mobile. GPRS today enables, besides the transmission of packet-oriented data, and rapid integration of new services. In this context GPRS is the first step in the direction to 3G (the 3rd generation of mobile communication).
Understanding this technology and the implementation of services are mandatory prerequisites for network operators who face high-demand pressures in a liberalised market.
