                   Studio Production Server
   Studio Production Server

XS is a new generation of intelligent production servers specifically designed for studio applications. XS is part of the
new Silverline brand; a new EVS brand developed to satisfy the needs of near-live and pre-recorded studio productions.

XS guarantees a reliable and flexible transition to tapeless production. Built on the unique EVS loop recording,
XS provides unmatched solutions for the recording of multiple audio and video feeds, as well as control and playback
operations. XS can easily be managed with Insio and IPDirector, EVS’ studio software applications designed to fulfill a
wide range of production workflows. Thanks to its open architecture, XS can also be controlled by third-party tools, such
as automation systems, linear or hybrid editors, switchers, and controllers. Moreover the XS production server emulates
tape machines when using BVW75 RS422 protocol. As a result playback machines and editing recorders are no longer
   needed.

Based on its powerful networking capabilities, XS makes recorded media instantly available across the production
network for simultaneous preview, rough editing, archiving, playback, or post-production. Exclusively available in 4
channels, the server offers multiple SD and HD codec configurations with native support for faster media transfer and
better quality preservation. XS guarantees perfect integration with third-party tools, so that files can easily be exchanged
in all types of production workflows.

    Main capabilities

P Multichannel SD & HD Ingest
The XS offers fully synchronized multi-camera recording, and since its structural design is based on EVS’ unique loop recording, the audio and
video feeds are constantly recorded from each camera in a continuous loop. In brief, XS ensures that scenes are never missed.

The XS production server can ingest up to 4 video channels and 16 audio tracks per video channel (up to 64 audio tracks in total),
and can control the ingest of any audio, video, or graphics input from various sources, including cameras, satellite feeds, craft editors,
graphics software, and video recorders. The XS also offers a fully scalable ingest capacity within any network environment.

P Synchronized & Instant Playback
The XS studio production server is ideal for televised debates, talk shows, game shows, news shows and concerts. It is also very useful for
playback on big screens during any of these events. Due to EVS’ instant tapeless technology, XS gives producers the immediate playback
control for live productions, as well as playlists, clips, graphics, logos, and edits. Fully synchronized playback offers maximum security for
playback on large screens or multiple screens.

P Control & Transfer While Recording
The XS lets operators create clips, make playlists, produce rough edits, transfer content to post-production, and record all at the same time.
This key feature makes EVS technology the most appropriate for those interested in improved processes and fast turnaround productions.

P Best Alternative to VTR
The XS is the best way to maximize your investment in tapeless technology, as it provides faster production workflows and better control
of the media. Since you can complete several tasks simultaneously, the XS guarantees greater efficiencies and beneficial cost performance.
It also means that post-production can focus on more creative elements, thereby enhancing the content at the same time. And the reliability of
EVS’ technology, which has been tested in the most difficult conditions, is further proof that the XS is a secure choice.

P Proven Performance & Reliability
EVS has gained a reputation for reliability based on years of experience in the intense environment of sports and live production. EVS’ proven
technology has been heralded as the best of breed for its speed and flexibility, which is why it is trusted by the most important broadcasters with
the most demanding workflows. Immediate control and full redundancy power supplies are all part of EVS’ reliability and amazing performance.

P Media Sharing Network
Any media (audio or video) recorded by the XS are available across the production network for any operators while the recording process is still
running. The XS offers dual network capabilities : Standard gigabit Ethernet allows direct file transfer or streaming to post-production as soon
as the event starts. And EVS’ XNet[2] Media Sharing Network (SDTI) is dedicated to live production network access.

P Powerful Integration with Post-Production
A key element of EVS’ studio production server is its unrivalled integration with the most popular post-production tools in the field,
such as Avid Media Composer® or Apple Final Cut Pro®. XS natively supports multiple SD and HD codecs for media transfer with encoding/
decoding processes, so it is faster and quality is easily preserved. For SD : IMX, MJPEG, DVCPro50 (coming soon); for HD : Avid DNxHD®,
Apple ProRes 422, MJPEG, MPEG2 i-frame (DVCPro HD coming soon). XS offers optimal integration with traditional linear editing
    workflows as well.
P EVS Software Control
EVS offers a choice of solution packages. For studio productions EVS recommends two different software applications.
Insio : the ultimate EVS software application, which is also a significant component of the Silverline brand. Insio was designed specifically
for TV series and pre-recorded studio shows. The combined XS-Insio solution is the best choice for pre-recorded TV programs,
allowing producers to control all of the angles recorded on multiple cameras, manage camera reviews, create clips, and transfer material
to various destinations such as post-production.
IPDirector : XS can also be controlled by EVS’ production content management software that offers, in combination with the XS,
a complete suite of applications for studio production including :
                    - Ingest control
                    - Browsing of content
                    - Media transfer to post-production
                    - Playback control
XS can also be complemented with other software and hardware solutions from EVS, such as CleanEdit, the EVS non-linear editing system
    for live and near-live productions

P SNMP
The SNMP protocol is implemented on the XS server. All the parameters of the production server can be centrally monitored through EVS’
dedicated client, or into existing SNMP monitoring platforms : server status, channel configuration, disk failure, remaining capacity, etc.
In addition maintenance operations, such as software upgrades or troubleshooting can also be done remotely from the central interface.

P Third-Party Control
Since the XS accepts the most popular control protocols, including VDCP, AVSP, Odetics, Sony BVW, as well as Thomson XtenDD-35. And
because it is based on an open architecture platform, the XS offers flawless integration with third-party tools. Craft editors, including Avid
Media Composer, Apple Final Cut Pro®, Adobe, and many more are easily integrated with the XS and its multiple media transfer process
for immediate content editing, based on feed streaming and the ability to play while recording. The XS integrates with new Media Asset
Management systems easily, and through EVS’ repurposing tools or third-party systems, any media on the XS can be delivered to new media
entertainment channels, such as the Web, PDAs, mobile phones, and more.

P Scalability & Upgrades
EVS’ engineers and designers are always available for consultation on your workflow, and can help expand the production workflow depending
on the studio’s needs. Massive online access can be achieved through distributed storage, and scalable near-line storage is also available.

    Main functionalities

P Multi-Feed Record Control
Combined with EVS production servers, XT[2] or XS, Insio is able to simultaneously control the recording and the playback of multiple audio/
video feeds, supporting multiple studio-formats and post-production codecs. The individual camera selection gives the user the ability to
select/deselect each camera, so that takes that are obsolete are immediately deleted.

P Intuitive Operation Tool
Very simple to understand and easy to learn by any member of the production team, Insio provides a direct and dynamic control over the
entire production phase including : recording control, takes review, clip management, production description, and transfer to post-production.

P Efficient Clip Management
After the recording of each scene or at the end of the day, it is easy to review all takes, including from different camera angles, and to select
and immediately transfer the best ones to post-production. Thanks to the production notes functionality, descriptive notes can be added to
the different clips, so that post-production editors can speed up their search.

P Efficient & User-Friendly Content Management
Insio provides all of the required operations for the most efficient production workflows. While offering all of the advantages of a true tapeless
solution, Insio has been developed with all of the functions of a VTR, guaranteeing a certain familiarity for VTR operators and including the
following functions : load clip, cue, play, stop, re-cue, jog/shuttle within the media.

P Clip Transfer & Feed Streaming to Post-Production
After a clip is recorded, a transfer to the editor can be initialized and is performed in the background without interfering with the operator’s
subsequent tasks (or with the functionality of the recording server). This function might not necessarily be performed after each clip is recorded,
but could be scheduled at the end of a recording session or at the end of the day.

P Intuitive Producer Review
A single interface with an overview of the production is available, so that the producer can easily review all the takes of the day in a quad-
display environment. The helpful touch-screen gives users intuitive tools to perform all of the required operations for scenes, takes, camera
    angles and episodes.

P Scripts Notes While Recording
Using “Production Notes” one can take notes and create logs of the actions on stage while the recording is still occurring. This can be done
on stage or in the control room via a normal laptop or tablet pc. The notes are then linked to the corresponding scene or take, and can be
instantly transferred to the editor along with the media or exported as a separate item. All of the notes for a production, episode or scene are
    stored in the Insio database.

P “Always-On” Recording Function
If valuable action took place before the “official” start of the recording, the EVS operator can modify the in-point and add media to the scene
    after it was saved.
Operational workflow

        P Recording Process
Developed with TV program producers, the recording module has been simplified to allow all main opera-
tions to be processed in the fastest and simplest of ways. Users can identify all of the phases directly in the
touch-screen: start feed recording; end take/scene recording; delete bad take or scene; delete bad camera
angles individually, etc. Some automated processes can take place at the same time, such as automatic take
number increment, default naming of scenes, and the automatic addition of a name for each added channel.

        P Notes Production
The production assistant can use the “Production Notes” functionality to interpret what is occurring in the
scene during the recording. One can also use “Production Notes” to add the producer’s comments of each
scene or take. The Note sheet can be for one recording session, per scene, or for every individual take.
Production Notes also allows the user to add comments when a “Take” is being reviewed, so a producer can
at a later stage add comments for editing. Insio automatically links the Note sheets with the corresponding
media. The notes can also be displayed as Markers/Locators in the 3rd-party editing software (Apple Final
Cut Pro and Avid Media Composer). The “star” rating and similar static information is also available for
            metadata in the editing application.

        P Transfer
Once a clip is recorded or at the end of the day, a transfer to post-production can be initialized and is
performed in the background. This can also be automated with predefined and monitored destinations
(local-, fixed-, removable-, shared drives; transcoding services like Access; or transfer services like Avid
            Transfer Manager or Marquis Medway).

        P Streaming
So that time consumption is reduced to its minimum during the recording process, some takes can be
streamed directly to editing stations, which allow editors to begin the post-production right away.

P System Clean Up & Media
            Purge
If the producer does not want to keep the media,
it is possible to delete part or all media available
on the production server(s). Media deletion can
be achieved in multiple ways, including entire
production, parts of it, certain episodes, time-
based (since, before, and between), or meta-
            data-based. Moreover these techniques can
            be automated with pre-scheduled processes.
