6. Essential Questions:

     • What are some ways to prepare for the CRCT?
Second Grade Test Taking BINGO 3

     • Why is honesty important during testing?

7. Materials: TRY Bingo game cards (class set) (see end of document
for card one), TRY Bingo cards to draw from, paper bag, Smarties
candy, pencils or stickers (for Bingo winners), My Test-Taking Pledge
   cards (see end of document).

8. Directions for the Activity:

     • Create 22 variations of the Bingo card at the end of the
document (card stock and a color printer works best).
     • Create cards for each possible square, cut them up, and place
them in a paper bag to draw from.
     • Go over each Bingo picture square in detail and explain what
       each means.
     • Discuss honesty as a key component of testing. The CRCT is
a chance for you to show what you know and celebrate what
       you have learned.
     • Discuss accomplishment and how it will feel to know that you
have done your best on the test and how proud you’ll feel.
     • Remind students to be patient as they take their test. They
should listen to the teacher’s directions and listen to all of the
questions and answers before they pick their answer.
     • Emphasize the need for a good night’s sleep, healthy breakfast,
and minimizing stress as essential to success in the test-taking
       process.
     • Mix cards up and draw them out of a bag. (Keep the cards you
draw in a pile so you can check your “winners” answers).
     • Use Smarties as game pieces to cover the squares (tell
students they must wait until after the game to eat them).
     • Tell the students to say “TRY” when they have gotten bingo.
     • Check their answers.
     • Play several games.
     • Give “TRY” winners a reward (pencils or stickers).
     • Allow everyone to enjoy their Smarties.
     • Pass out My Test-Taking Pledge cards and have students sign
       them.
     • Time permitting, have students complete some of the
worksheets at the end of this document. Pick and choose as
Second Grade Test Taking BINGO 4

appropriate for the classroom composition. Leave worksheets
with students if time runs out.

teacher or paraprofessional to play TRY Bingo.

figure that demonstrated honesty and read their story in their
