                                 LESSON PLAN

TITLE: Comparing vertebrate characters.


GRADE LEVEL: 11th grade.


GOAL: To compare characters of different vertebrates.


LEARNING OBJECTIVE:
   1. Student will be able to compare the characters of different vertebrates.
   2. Student will be able to identify and draw the different vertebrates.
   3. Student will be able to describe the form and function in different vertebrates.


ISTE STANDARDS:

           Teachers:

          A. Facilitate technology-enhanced experiences that address content standards
              and student technology standards.
          B. Use technology to support learner-centered strategies that address the
              diverse needs of students.
          C. Apply technology to develop students' higher order skills and creativity.

   4. Specimens of different vertebrates.
   5. Paper.
   6. Pen and pencil
   7. Worksheet on “Vertebrate knowledge”.
   8. Rubric for the lab.

PROCEDURE:
  1. Hook: Students will work on the worksheet “Vertebrate knowledge”. They check
     off the agree or disagree statements and write their evidence in the boxes
     provided.
  2. Presentation: PowerPoint presentation on “Vertebrate comparison”. Students will
     take notes on body plan, skeleton, muscles, gas exchange, circulation, digestion,
     excretion, nervous system, reproduction and conserved and derived characters of
     vertebrates in their notebook with the presentation.
  3. Students will be given time to go back to the “Vertebrate Knowledge” worksheet
     and asked to make any changes or corrections.
  4. Go-over the Vertebrate worksheet and clarify any doubts.
  5. Laboratory Investigation: “Gallery Walk”- students will move from table to table
     and identify the different vertebrate specimens. They will
          Identify
          Describe the phylum and subphylum of each specimen
          List three to four characters of each specimen.
  6. Homework: Students will have to research any one vertebrate and fill in the
     worksheet “My Favorite Vertebrates”.


STUDENT PRODUCT:
  1. Students will complete worksheet “Vertebrate Knowledge”.
  2. Students will complete their lab and hand in their lab-reports.
  3. Students will complete their homework worksheet “My Favorite Vertebrate”.

ASSESSMENTS:
  1. Students will be assessed on their class participation and class work.
  2. Student lab- reports will be assessed using the “Rubric for Lab-reports”.
  3. Student response to the “Vertebrate Knowledge worksheet”.
  4. Next class students will take a computer based test.
