Research Projects
Call for Proposals 2009
UNO Academia strives to promote the cooperation between academics,
international organisations based in Switzerland and the Federal Department of
Foreign Affairs in domains related to the United Nations, the international
system and relations between Switzerland and the UN.
Research projects designed to analyse the United Nations System or any related
political, economic, social, environmental and legal issue of particular interest to
the Swiss government can be submitted to UNO Academia for funding.
Proposals from a wide range of academic disciplines including political sciences,
law, economics, social sciences, history and related areas are taken into
consideration.
UNO Academia supports research projects through two channels:
a) Liaison with relevant departments of the Swiss government
Thanks to its strong ties with the Swiss government, UNO Academia serves as an
entry point for academics and researchers to contact and submit research
proposals to relevant Swiss government departments and to request support and
funding.
On a rolling basis, project proposals directed at specific departments of the Swiss
government can be submitted to UNO Academia via info@unoacademia.ch. A
thorough search for support within the Swiss government will be conducted and
the result will be communicated through UNO Academia.
b) Allocation of grants
Through an annual tender, the Scientific Council of UNO Academia considers
project proposals that match its criteria and decides upon acceptance and
eventual support.
Selection criteria:
- Topic related to the United Nations system, the role of Switzerland within
the UN system or Switzerland’s multilateral policy objectives
- Involvement of UN affiliated researchers/officials is an asset
- Innovative research focus
- Originality of the research question
- Quality of the research proposal (methodological approach, literature
review)
- Academic and/or practical relevance of the research project
- Project management (budget not to exceed 15’000 CHF)
Deadline for the submission of project proposals for 2009 is 1 May 2009.
Proposals are to be submitted electronically to info@unoacademia.ch.
UNO Academia reserves the right to launch a second tender with a deadline on 1 October 2009
if necessary.
