                                       Calling all helpers
Eddie Blackwell and Stuart Jones are looking for volunteers to help repair the surface of the top square on the
Trawsfynydd Ranges in preparation for the Clwydian Cars Stage Rally on the 19th May. Bala Motor Club will be
looking after the repair of the roads, so all we need to sort out is the Square. There is some concreting to be done
and tyres to rearrange, all help will be much appreciated. Ring Stuart Jones on 01352 720684 before 9.00pm if you
can help and Stuart will let you know a date and time.

Vienna, I decided to do a bit of a round trip, so on a Sunday afternoon earlier this month I set out for Hull and the overnight ferry
to Rotterdam.
Monday morning dawned bright and sunny and I set off to recce the route into Dusseldorf station, the jumping off point for
German Motorail, and the start of my May tour to Italy. From here my route took me down to a little south of Salzburg, where I
discovered the remains of an Alfa Romeo Montreal in the hotel car park.

Switzerland and up to Calais. Caught the 8.30pm ferry and arrived back home at 1.30 am, having covered the 1200 miles in 20
hours, including the ferry.
              Friday.
Good Friday Had a lie in!
Total mileage for the trip was 60 short of 5000, and I saw no collisions, happily cruised at 100 (120 in Germany) until I got back
to the UK, where I encountered one near the Dartford Tunnel, and another just north of Birmingham. As usual; they were nose to
tail bumps, as one assumes they were looking at their speedo’s and not where they were going! Do we have the worst drivers in
Europe?

Table Top Rally Report 21st March
After a hard day at work the last thing Pat and myself felt like doing was going down to the club night to do a Table Top
Rally. But if someone is willing to give up their spare time to plan and organise an event then I think every effort should be made
to attend and support their efforts.
We’d never taken part in a Table Top Rally before so didn’t know quite what to expect. Phil (5 Bellies) Harrison was the
man in charge and by looking at the grin on his face we expected something devious.
The route was given in 4 sections, each with an individual time, you had to plot the route and then answer questions on it,
the only problem was that every time you received your route instructions they got more difficult, to the stage were Pat and myself
had a real head scratcher with the last set of instructions.
That said it was a very enjoyable night with crews getting more competitive as night went on.
Many thanks to Phill for putting it on, lets hope the next time he volunteers there will be more participants to support the event.
                                                                                                                Stuart & Pat Jones.

                                            VK Derbyshire Rally
To say that I approached the VK Derbyshire rally with some trepidation was an understatement. I had been told that the
rally was cryptic and difficult to plot, and after seeing some examples in the regs, I thought that the plotting would be similar to
some of our night navs but obviously with the added difficulty of having to work it out on the go!!
As the rally would be my first attempt at a "plot and bash" event, I decided to use the night nav the night before the rally as
practice, and I was pleased to find that I could at least work out the route whilst on the move. However any confidence I had was
soon erased when talking at the finish about the VK, mainly due to people inhaling sharply and saying things like "your not doing
that are you?"
As it turned out, I needn't have been worried, although the rally was very hard and it took me until the petrol halt to get my
head fully into the event, I enjoyed every minute of it. The lanes on map 119 are fantastic, and fortunately, you don't notice how
close and solid looking the stone walls are when your head is buried in the map working out where your (supposed) to be going!
I cannot say that I performed flawlessly, losing over 30mins in the first half through a couple of (er.. maybe several..) wrong
slots, booking in early at a time control (muppet!) and getting hopelessly lost on the first plot and bash selective after following a
205 who seemed to know where he was going (he found two passage controls for us, then wrong slotted), but after such a steep
learning curve, the second half went well, with us getting to the finish dropping another 9 minutes.
Thanks again to Nigel for letting me nav for him, and thanks to all in the club who offered advice, I learned a lot from doing
this event and I can't wait till the next one.
                                                                                                                        Stu Thomas.

                                           Clwydian Cars Stage Rally
                                                       Saturday 19th May

Plans are now well advanced for our stage rally on the ranges.
2006 Winner: Geoff McQuilling / Sarah Manton
13 crews have now entered with promises from many others. We are
aiming to get 50 with 5 reserves but our break even point is about 34
so we still have a way to go before we reach our targets. If you know
anybody that is looking to have a go then ask them to go onto our web
site for regs or give me a ring and I will send a set out.
Stuart and Eddie are busy planning the manpower on the day
and the main controls are more or less sorted but it is very important
that we have as much support as possible on the day from club
members.
Please attend the club meeting on the Wednesday before, 16th
May, to get your briefing for your job on the day.
