EDITOR’S NOTES
Welcome to our monthly newsletter. Due to a large majority of our alumni receiving information from various
sources (Facebook, Classmates.com, MyReunion.com, Email, our various websites, word of mouth comments,
and who knows what other sources), we felt having a definitive source of information would be of value to
everyone.

Please make a note to review the edition of the newsletter, as the most current one, will of course, have the
most current information. The newsletters can also be retrieved from our alumni website at http://ahsaa-
eagles.com/Newsletters.aspx
We tend to have our executive committee meetings at the beginning of each month and hence the most
current information to publish. The monthly newsletter will be sent out via email to you (via a link back to the
website hosting the Adobe pdf file). Feel free to circulate the email to all of your Andress friends, parents and
employees at Andress.
Each of the topics will be covered and hopefully you will gain a better understanding of what we are doing, and
the importance of the events.
If you have any questions about the event(s), information in each of the newsletters, or would like to contribute
information, please send me a message at harry@ahs-eagles.org or call me at 505-463-7149.
Most importantly, remember to register and purchase your tickets to the event (go to http://ahs-eagles.org ).
We understand you may need to wait until the last minute to register (there are significant savings for buying
your ticket early) and for those of you that can make the commitment early, we thank you, as the commitment
made by early ticket purchasers allows us to pay various bills for the event on time and early.
Each of us can support the event in many ways, as a pre-event volunteer, event volunteer, recruiting
sponsorships, selling tickets, sending us yearbooks to scan, donating money to fund scholarships, advertising
your business via trades or services in kind, helping us find missing classmates, helping us build our alumni
database. If you are able and willing to participate, let us know, as there is plenty to do.
On behalf of the committee, thank you for exhibiting your pride as an Eagle, and we look forward to hearing
from you soon!
Regards,

Harry Asmussen,
Co-Chair of the 50th Celebration for AHS and Alumni Association President

MASTER ALUMNI DATABASE

Currently, Tracey Benson ’80, is reviewing our 20,000 record database and
cleaning up our records so we can have a clean and functional alumni
database. We believe we have over 14,000 alumni; however, it may be
months before we have an accurate count. Paul Adame ’95 is our wunderkind
man, whom has put together a robust database system that will allow us to
generate a multitude of reports for alumni and reunion committee purposes.
We should be finished by Thanksgiving with this massive project.
This project has gone through 6 previous volunteers and we are truly counting
our blessings that Paul, Tracey, and Melanie Thomas-Thomas’74 have had
such an important role in this task’s success.

Dan Colon’79 also has a longer range vision to help us migrate the database
to the internet, and thereby giving authorized users (alumni) access to relevant
information on the status of alumni, how to contact them; in addition to
invaluable resources for reunion coordinators of each class to make their
events better attended in the future. Stay tuned!

REASONS TO MAKE IT TO THIS CELEBRATION
We understand that some of us may not feel comfortable “in our skins”. In fact, that tends to be the challenge,
and excuses many of reunion chairs have heard from many classmates during their 10th and 20th reunions.
Mark Matusof ’76, and professional comedian, shares with us, the top reasons you should make it back to El
Paso for the 50th Celebration:
    1. One last chance to see your classmates before the world ends in 2012.
    2. Because no one remembers "that incident" involving you, the beer truck, the unicycle and the llama.
    3. You can always wear someone else's nametag because, really, who is going to know the difference?
    4. Three words -- Statute Of Limitations.
    5. If you don't attend, it will appear on your permanent record.
    6. CSI is probably a re-run that night anyway.
    7. Bell Bottoms are back in style.
    8. An opportunity to find a future spouse with good credit.
    9. Maybe that cheerleader will pay attention to you now.
    10. It's never too late to see three states and two countries.
    11. The ladies dig gray hair, or so you're told.
    12. The restraining order has been lifted.
    13. Check if the graffiti you spray painted off Transmountain road is still there.

RECEPTION AND SATURDAY EVENING EVENT
The big celebration is happening Saturday evening, July 23, 2011 starting with a reception at 5 to 7 pm.
Come out visit with friends, warm up to the evenings events, enjoy snacks, a cash bar, a silent auction and a
Jazz Jam Band ensemble.
Kevin Clark’79 is heading up this group of volunteers for the pre-event planning phase. George Wooley’72 is
heading up the procurement of contracts for photographers and videographers. As we learn more, we’ll share
that with you. Kaye Dail’77 is heading up the decorations committee for the event. Get this…she is doing this
volunteerism from Japan! She has paid for her ticket, as a volunteer, and will also be in El Paso before the
event to corral her volunteers to make certain the event is beautifully decorated.
We’ll need volunteers for the reception. Already at the helm are Kevin Clark’79, and currently, Alan
Chavez’78. Alan is putting on the Jazz Ensemble for the reception, of which several band members from the
previous decades will be entertaining us with their fantastic musicality.
Volunteers needed for the actual event include about 6 registration ticket takers, and 10 to 20 silent auction
volunteers. If you’d like to volunteer during this segment of the event, you can enter the reception for free; and
your ticket for the balance of the evening will be at a reduced price – to cover decorations cost, your meal, the
music. We will be pricing the reception volunteer ticket price by early January 2011; however, we need you to
let us know soon if you’d like to volunteer some time as a volunteer during the reception.

The dinner and dance will start at 7 pm and continue through midnight. We are under contract
negotiations for a live band, and should have our emcee announced by our November newsletter. We are also
planning the style of food delivery during the evening. These details will be finalized and communicated to you
soon. We do not anticipate having any alumni volunteers for the dinner and dance…this is a time to relax,
mingle with friends and to celebrate.

CLASS REPRESENTATION

Who’s coming from each class? That question comes up more times than we
can shake a stick! Does that mean, if someone comes, you’ll come? Or, if they
come, you will not come? To learn who is coming, surf over to
    http://www.ahs50-eagles.org/3/whos_coming.htm .
We will post how many alumni from each class are attending in this newsletter

TOWN CLUB EVENTS

Having a challenge making it to El Paso for a reunion? Do you
need nourishment (food and drink)? Enjoy networking with fellow
Eagles? If so, take note that several cities have active regular
alumni social events. The events happen about every 4 to 8
weeks, happen during the weekday, typically a Wednesday,
Thursday or Friday evening and have proven to be a great
opportunity for friends to connect, and for Eagles of all ages to
network and increase their opportunities for work in their favor.
                                               The following cities have active social events: Albuquerque, NM;
El Paso, TX; Dallas/Ft Worth, TX; Austin, TX; Phoenix, AZ; and
                                               Maryland.

Several more communities are in the works. Many of the clubs are using Facebook’s event system to get the
word out. If you are not a member of Facebook, consider doing so, as you’ll be up with the current events.
Once you join Facebook, join groups that have Andress in their group name – it will be obvious that you have
found the right groups to join.
Or, send Harry a message at harry@ahs-eagles.org, and we’ll send you the information on the organizer in
charge of the next event. Recent events (during the last 30 days) have occurred in Austin, Phoenix, El Paso,
and Dallas.

50TH CELEBRATION EVENTS

There are several events happening for the 50th Celebration.
Although crashing a party can be a form of sport for many of us, each of these
events require pre-registration, along with payment of tickets, so the event

SPONSORSHIPS

Sponsoring the 50th Celebration allows us to keep ticket prices low, which
allows a larger number of alumni and guests to attend, and increase our
chances of having a scholarship generated for any excess of income over
expenses. Sponsorships also allow you, as the sponsor, to receive valuable
exposure to alumni that have the potential to purchase your services.
Opportunities to be a sponsor involve cash and/or product and service trades.

                                             Exposure opportunities include:
 Web advertisements on 2 of our websites (running
November 2010 through December 2011) and several of
                                                  our class websites.
                                              Event program advertisements.

Each issue, we will share with you pictures from Andress.

EAGLES MAKING A DIFFERENCE – KAY CASSIDY WEST-1978

This section will be dedicated to alumni that have special or unique issues going on in
their lives. This month’s section spotlights Kay Cassidy-West, alumnus from 1978.
I understand many of us have gone through the recession wringer the last two years.
How would you like to sell your home, leave your adult children behind, pack up and
leave to Africa on a mission to serve? Change takes courage. Intestinal fortitude. Link
up with Kay and her husband John. Follow their travels and experiences at
http://www.swazilandk.blogspot.com . We’re proud of you Kay! Keep in touch and
    continue to make a difference!

To send in your requests for future stories, please send them to me at harryasmussen@gmail.com . Include a
picture and a summary of the Eagle making a difference.

VOLUNTEERS
As you probably have guessed, this event is a once in a lifetime event. Although the main theme may appear
to be, have fun, eat, drink and celebrate, the recognition of our history is a unique opportunity to share with the
current students, parents and faculty of Andress, in addition to the El Paso community that many alumni care
about the future of Andress. It’s important to show we care, as these special events often time showcase the
good in our graduates, and often inspire students today into becoming the future leaders of our country, caring
parents for their homes, business men and women that can trace their educational roots and early successes
to high school.
The volunteers noted below have worked their buns off to make this an experience you’ll never forget, nor
regret. If you live in El Paso, you have the benefit of little or no travel costs – make your plans to attend. A 50
year celebration only comes once!
Recently, I heard from an alumnus that was concerned about the lack of outreaches to a number of earlier and
more recent classes to procure their involvement. I truly understand where he was coming from – you find
broader representation, and more alumni will attend. Short of stopping by a potential volunteer’s home to
barge in and having a beer, cup of coffee or tea, we have done significant outreaches via email, broadcasts on
Facebook and Classmates.com.

We are confident that as the next few months arrive, we’ll find more alumni that want to participate. If you feel
compelled to join in on the fun, and to make certain your class is “fairly” represented, let me know.

from myevent.com, as proof of purchase for your ticket.

In the event you need to return your ticket, due to a last minute cancellation, you have until June 15, 2011 to do so, as by then, we will
have made commitments for your food and refreshments. After June 15, 2011, you will forfeit your refund, unless we can resell your
ticket at the door. We will do our best to resell your ticket to another attendee in the event you cancel before June 15, 2011; however,

weeks of us reselling your ticket. In the event your ticket cannot be resold by May 1, 2011, we encourage you to communicate with
your friends, or post a message in the event website through Facebook to advise your ticket is for sale and then you process your own
sale and hence refund. In either event, let us know whom you have sold your ticket to, so we can adjust our records to match
attendees with paid ticket holders.
