Management Summary
Trends
• In 2010, an increase in Swiss online sales was observed, with the categories “Holiday Travel” and “Flight Bookings” increasing strongly. The
   main reason for this increase in sales is the increase in the average online expenditures of the Swiss population.
• In Switzerland, 92% of B2C distance sales, including B2C E-Commerce were paid by invoice in 2010, while only 5% were paid by credit card.
• Approximately 44% of Swiss respondents used their mobile phone in 2010 to access the Internet while on the go. That corresponds to an
   increase of +15% compared to 2008.
Sales & Share
• In Switzerland, B2C E-Commerce sales of members of the Swiss Distance Selling Association reached CHF 3.8 billion in 2010, up by +52%
   vs. 2009.
• In 2010, B2C E-Commerce accounted for 4.2% on total retail sales, up from 2.8% in 2009.
• Furthermore, B2C E-Commerce reached 75% of total distance sales in 2010, up from 51% in 2009.
Products
• 45% of Swiss shoppers planned to buy “Books” online between April and September 2010, 41% wanted to buy “Flight Tickets” in the Internet.
   Furthermore, 35% of Swiss shoppers planned to buy “Clothing” online within that period.
Users & Shoppers
• The number of Internet users in Switzerland reached 5.1 million in 2010, accounting for 77% of total population.
• 47% of the Swiss population were Internet shoppers in 2010, up from 37% in 2008.
• 70% of Internet users aged between 30 and 39 shopped online in Switzerland in 2010.
• There were more than 37 Swiss broadband subscribers per 100 inhabitants in 2010, higher than 31 in Germany and 27 in the US.
Top Players
• Generalist Amazon (630 thousand unique visitors) was the leading B2C E-Commerce player in Switzerland in terms of unique visitors in June
  2011, followed by clothing retailer La Redoute (350 thousand), online media goods retailer Weltbild (260 thousand), consumer electronics
  online store Brack (220 thousand) and online bookstore Exlibris (180 thousand).
• Weltbild.ch is the leading Swiss online bookstore, accounting for B2C E-Commerce sales of approximately CHF 48 million in 2009/2010.
