					                            VA-ACME SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
                                       * 2008 *


All scholarship applications and attachments must be post-marked by 31 December 2007. Incomplete
applications will not be considered. Awardees will be notified in February 2008. All payments will be
made to the school of record on behalf of the student.

1. Active Duty, Drilling Reservist, or National Guard member - $1,000
       Definition: This scholarship is open only to U. S. Uniformed Service members (active duty,
       drilling reservist, or National Guard) who have completed Basic Military Training or OCS.

       Criteria for selection:
           a. Currently enrolled in a regionally or nationally accredited institution of higher education
                  operating in the Commonwealth of Virginia and certified by SCHEV.
           b. Assigned to a military installation in Virginia.
           c. Currently enrolled in a certificate, associate, baccalaureate, or graduate degree.
           d. GPA must be 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or higher.
           e. Must complete requisite essay, not to exceed 500 words
                  (two pages, double-spaced).

       Submit Application package to include the following:
          a. VA-ACME Scholarship application form.
          b. Official transcript(s).
          c. Letter of recommendation (Commanding Officer, Supervisor, or Instructor) from a
                 person unrelated to you, who can attest to your motivation, character, and integrity.
          d. Proof of military status (LES, I. D. card, DD-214) and duty station.
          e. Evidence of enrollment (institution letter of acceptance).
          f. Essay.

       Essay Topic:

              How will your education goals enhance your military career?
2.     Family member (to include spouse or child) of Active Duty - $1,000
       Definition: Scholarship is open to spouse/child of active duty, drilling reservist, or National
       Guard member.

       Criteria for selection:
           a. Currently enrolled in a regionally or nationally accredited institution of higher education
                  operating in the Commonwealth of Virginia and certified by SCHEV.
           b. Military spouse assigned to a military installation in Virginia.
           c. Currently enrolled in a certificate, associates, bachelors, or graduate degree.
           d. GPA must be 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or higher.
           e. Must complete requisite essay, not to exceed 500 words (two pages, double-spaced).

       Submit package to include the following:
          a. VA-ACME Scholarship application form.
          b. Official transcript(s).
          c. Letter of recommendation (Commanding Officer, Supervisor, or Instructor) from a
                 person unrelated to you, who can attest to your motivation, character, and integrity.
          d. Proof of military status (I. D. card; please block out the SSN) and duty station.
          e. Evidence of enrollment (institution letter of acceptance).
          f. Essay.

       Essay Topic:

               Describe how you balance military family life, community service, and your academic
       pursuits.

3. Permanently disabled military member, family member (to include spouse or
child) of permanently disabled military member, or family member of service
member killed in action - $1,000
        Definition: This scholarship is open only to U. S. Uniformed service members (active duty,
drilling reservist, or National Guard) who have completed Basic Military Training or OCS and who are
permanently disabled, family member of permanently disabled military member, or family member of
service member killed in action.

       Criteria for selection:
           a. Currently enrolled in a regionally or nationally accredited institution of higher education
                  operating in the Commonwealth of Virginia and certified by SCHEV.
           b. Currently enrolled in a certificate, associate, baccalaureate, or graduate degree.
           c. GPA must be 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or higher.
           d. Must complete requisite essay, not to exceed 500 words (two pages, double-spaced).

       Submit package to include the following:
          a. VA-ACME Scholarship application form.
          b. Official transcript(s).
        c. Letter of recommendation from a person unrelated to you, who can attest to your
               motivation, character, and integrity.
        d. Proof of military status (DD-214).
        e. Proof of disability status (Letter from the Veterans’ Affairs).
        f. Evidence of enrollment (Institution letter of acceptance).
        g. Essay.

     Essay Topic:
            How will this scholarship help you achieve or enhance your educational goals?

4. VA-ACME member (to include service members) - $1,000
     Definition: This scholarship is open to a member of VA-ACME in good standing.

     Criteria for selection:
         a. Member in good standing of VA-ACME (current dues paid) who is currently enrolled in
                a regionally or nationally accredited institution of higher education operating in the
                Commonwealth of Virginia and certified by SCHEV.
         b. If service member, assigned to a military installation in Virginia.
         c. Currently enrolled in a certificate, associate, baccalaureate, or graduate degree.
         d. GPA must be 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or higher.
         e. Must complete requisite essay, not to exceed 500 words (two pages, double-spaced).

     Submit package to include the following:
        a. VA-ACME Scholarship application form.
        b. Official transcript(s).
        c. Letter of recommendation (Commanding Officer, Supervisor, or Instructor) from a
               person unrelated to you, who can attest to your motivation, character, and integrity.
