5) Organizational Behavior Reflection:
It is known that the point of strength in a nation is its youth who represent its living hope. Therefore, H.H
Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid ALMaktoum didn’t hesitate to depend on young Emirati leaders who he
believes in, and sets high expectations on to make-up a bright future of a rapid growing country. Here
comes the role of the Educational Institutes in enhancing leadership qualities in students who are expected
to be the future leaders. For example, DWC organizes a bazaar in which students have an opportunity to
experience teamwork and leadership through starting small businesses that offer a variety of products.
We, the Arabian Nights group took advantage of this opportunity and participated in the Bazaar.

The Arabian Nights is a heritage shop that tends to sell heritage products that represent our culture and
reflect our traditions. Our small business included students from Year 1 who worked enthusiastically and
dedicated themselves to it. The business depended mainly on teamwork which resulted in good
communication between the team members. We all know that nothing is perfect but Allah, so there was a
conflict between two members regarding the shop’s decoration. They both thought of unique methods for
decorating the whole shop, but each wanted her idea to be implemented without the other. As a result, the
conflict was resolved when the team leader came up with a plan that satisfied them both by including
some of their ideas equally to the main decoration plan by her. Being a leader is a responsibility that a
person should be aware of. Leadership is concerned about the way teammates feel when completing tasks
assigned to them by the leader. Thus, we used the transformational leadership style where we depended
on motivation among our team members. We considered ourselves equal with no discriminations
regarding positions, and that lead to the high motivation represented in full dedication to work despite the
necessary breaks. We enjoyed the cooperative atmosphere that surrounded us, and every member had a
chance to reveal her skills in interacting with customers.


It was an outstanding opportunity that will encourage us to come up with new ideas for upcoming events.
We are contented with the outcomes of this experience after our huge efforts.

My group and I made changes to the services that we agreed on providing before we wrote our bazaar
mini-business plan. In the second table, my group and I have cancelled three services. The first service
that was cancelled was henna. No one from our group has had experience making henna designs;
therefore we had to cancel the henna service. The second and third service was taking photos of the horse
and horse riding.



    b) Pricing
       We placed the prices aiming to make profit out of our products and services. During the bazaar
       we found out a complete opposite of our expectations. There were several other competitors. Our
       competitors sold designed canes as we did but with much lower prices than we had listed.

    c) Distribution

        Our point of sale was distributing tea and coffee at our business especially to potential customers.
        They loved the tea and coffee and sat down in our booth where we had a majlis.

    d) Promotion

        As a business group we have created a business website for the bazaar in order to give a chance
        for people to order products online. We have put pictures and prices of our products and service
        on our website. Therefore, anyone who wants to order any of our products may contact us using
        the contact email or phone number on the ‘contact us’ page.
        My group and I have developed two tools of promotion such as posters and flyers for our
        business. We set up four posters around college since four was our maximum amount of posters
        to be set up. We also gave out flyers outside, and inside the college to make people know where
        our booth is set up. During the bazaar we gave out more flyers.


    e) People, process, and physical evidence:
       - The people that were involved in the delivering of the product or services helped the business
          obtain a competitive advantage by delivering the products and service a couple of weeks
          before the bazaar started. In that way, my group and I could prepare and make sure
          everything is ready with the right quantity that was ordered.

            The HD1 employees helped in roaming around the college during the bazaar holding our
            products and allowing people to see what we sell. This really helped because we had a lot of
            competitors selling the same products with fewer prices than ours. Designed canes and
            burga’as were some of the products. Also, the location of our booth affected our, sales
            because it was far away from being near the coffee shop. Therefore, we made use of the space
            by separating our HD1 employees throughout the college campus to promote and sell our
            products.

             The staff did have appropriate interpersonal skills, attitude and service knowledge which
            convinced people to buy our products. Our main objective was to serve our customers with
            professional attitude as if we really have an actual business between real big competitors.



        -   The process of our products and service orders took almost a month to be ready. There were
            no problems in obtaining an efficient service delivery. I wouldn’t change anything in the
            process we used.

        -   Physical evidence:

            The theme, decoration, and layout made our business feel so Arabian just like how we
            expected. The distribution of tea and coffee did not really help us in selling our products. The
            majlis we had in our booth made people stay longer at our booth which brought some
            attention to people passing by.




        8) Microeconomics
               a) Demand and supply:

        My group and I made a survey with questions that may help us know the quantity that we may
        need to supply during the bazaar. By summing up the demand of each customer we found what
        products and service people are more interested in. The survey was not the only method we
        determined the demand for our products and service. By asking year 3 students and from our
        experience at last year’s bazaar we found what products and service is more demanded.
        These two factors influenced on the prices of our products and service because of the demand. As
        a result of roaming around the bazaar showing off our products we saw our competitors selling
        the same products with lower prices.
        Therefore, we lowered the prices of our products in order to attract more customers to buy our
        products.


b)

        Fixed cost:
        Fixed prices which were at the bazaar is the rental shop was a price of 400 per subject and also,
        the cost of goods was constant Bokhoor 50 Dh, sticks with design 15Dh and Burga with design
        20 Dh.
        The cost of Burga (600 DH) +Bokhoor (1000 DH) + Yola designed canes (500 DH) = 2100 DH.
        Variable cost
        Changing prices in the bazaar is the price we have been going on sale. We change the price to
        commensurate with the time and place and customers.
        Total cost
        Is the sum of the fixed cost to open the shop and the goods lease of all.

       Maryam’s Reflection:

       As an HD2 student having a business at the bazaar was a good experience dealing with
       customers. I concentrated on promoting our products in order for it to be recognized and sold. I
       walked around the bazaar promoting our products and that was successful since our booth was far
       away near the auditorium. In that way, many people noticed and asked more about our business. I
       have learnt to communicate with customers when trying to sell our products, advertise, and
       organize shift timings of taking a break. I could improve in being more creative, and do more
       marketing. In that way, I could gain great experience whenever I deal with customers in a
       business.
