Re: Oak Ridge Elementary School inspection June 2, 2009 approximately 5 pm.
Dear Mr. James Smith, Per your request to inspect Oak Ridge Elementary School for possible termite and insect infestations we found the following conditions. History: 3-23-09 PMi received a work order to inspect for sightings of flying insects (possibly termite) in the hallway near the media center, we sent our service advisor to inspect and upon arrival he found swarming termites and evidence of termites at the baseboard in the hallway. A localized treatment was scheduled. A localized termite treatment was made to that area on 3-30-09. 5-29-09 A work order was sent to PMi for flying insects in office. A technician inspected and found the flying insects to be flying ants and treated. Visual inspection for termites: The inspection consisted of visually accessible areas of the school including the crawl space and basement area under the media center. No termite evidence was found in the new section of the school with exception the old previously treated section in the hallway near the media center which showed no activity. The crawl space area had inactive signs of termites noted and some damage but no current signs of previous treatment. The conditions conductive to termites were noted which include wood debris. I re-inspected the area that was previously treated on 3-30-09 and found no further termite activity. Visual general insect inspection: Inspection noted no insect infestation in areas visually accessible and areas in general were clean and well maintained with the exception of food found on the floor of class rooms #424 and 521. Some clutter was noted in classroom storage areas and closets which is conductive to insect and rodent activity and prohibits a thorough inspection and maintenance. This may be temporary due to end of year conditions. Flies and gnats were noted in class room 627 around class pet. Door and windows were open in music class.

Summary and Conclusion: Overall the school is found to be in relatively good condition as it relates to insect infestation. In consideration of the age and condition of the media center some repairs and modifications should be made in the future, as well as follow up inspections to ensure termite activity does not re-establish. The removal of conditions conducive to termites that exist, include wood debris. Recommend installation of a vapor barrier. The remaining portion of the school which was remodeled in 2004 should have had a termite treatment performed during the construction phase which would prevent termite infestations from occurring for 710 years after treatment. No termites were evident at time of inspection. A review of your records of construction would determine if termite treatments were made.
Sincerely,
