Source Electronics Provides High-Volume Programming Service for
     Microchip’s PIC10F – the World’s Smallest Microcontroller
CHANDLER, Ariz., Nov. 9, 2005 [NASDAQ: MCHP] — Microchip Technology Inc., a
leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, and Source Electronics Corp., a
leader in IC Programming, announced today that Source Electronics has developed an
automated high-volume programming service for customers utilizing Microchip’s PIC10F family
of microcontrollers in 6-pin, SOT-23 packages. The Source Electronics programming service
complements Microchip’s Quick-Turn Programming (QTP) service by providing multiple
production programming options for PIC10F customers. The service uses a proprietary
integrated system that programs the SOT-23 packaged part to a customer’s specific
requirements and then places it in tape and reel. The Source Electronics service employs
vision placement controls to ensure the highest quality and output available. Source Electronics
provides additional value to Microchip customers with specialized services such as inventory
management, custom marking, unique testing and screening.
―With the tremendous success of our PIC10F family, cost-effective production
programming has become a vital service for our customers,‖ said Steve Drehobl, vice president
of Microchip’s Security, Microcontroller and Technology Development Division. ―It is important
that Microchip help to make production easy for our customers by providing multiple
programming options.‖
       ―We are providing Microchip’s customers with a low-cost, high-volume production
programming alternative for the PIC10F family of microcontrollers,‖ said Rick Staszewski vice
president of Sales for Source Electronics. "The development of this service satisfies a
significant customer need.‖

Source Electronics Offers High-Volume PIC10F Programming Service

The PIC10F 8-bit Flash microcontroller remains the world’s smallest microcontroller and
the first and only 6-pin microcontroller family in the world, since being introduced in June 2004.
The PIC10F microcontroller family in SOT-23 packaging (PIC10F200, PIC10F202, PIC10F204,
PIC10F206, PIC10F220 and PIC10F222) is well suited for any space-constrained application
requiring embedded intelligence. The PIC10F family offers 256 to 512 instructions of Flash
program memory and 16 to 24 bytes of data RAM. The PIC10F204 and PIC10F206 offer an
analog comparator module, and the PIC10F220 and PIC10F222 have an onboard 8-bit analog-
to-digital converter (ADC).
The combination of the PIC10F’s small form factor, high performance and low cost
supports applications that are not traditionally served by microcontrollers, such as electronic
glue, logic control and intelligent disposable electronics.
Source Electronics Availability and Pricing
In addition to other PIC® microcontrollers, the Source Electronics automated
programming service is now available for all six members of Microchip’s PIC10F microcontroller
family with no minimum order requirement. Their other available services include the Source
Electronics Supply Chain Solution and the Just in Time Inventory Program. The cost for
programming PIC10F microcontrollers in SOT-23 packaging is:
 3,000 – 9,000 units: $0.10 each
 >9,000 – 25,000 units: $0.07 each
 >25,000 units: $0.05 each
Microchip Technology Availability
Microchip’s Quick-Turn Programming service is also available for all six members of the
PIC10F family, and has a minimum order requirement of 9,000 units. Prices start at:
