• Arrive at Charles De Gaulle Airport in Paris, France.

• Take the two-hour train to Pontlevoy on the TGV (tickets will be provided)

• Check-in at the Château Loire
Founded in 1034 A.D. by Gueldin de Chaumont, a crusader, the Château
Loire gained international stature as a Benedictine refuge during the twelfth
and thirteen centuries. Prosperous times led to expansion of the Château
Loire. The twenty-first century led the Château Loire to be acquired by a
private owner, and renovations have been taking place, transforming the
Château Loire into an “international school of thought.”

Built in 1519 by François I, as a hunting lodge, it is the largest castle in the Loire Valley. The
chateau contains 440 rooms, 365 fireplaces and 84 staircases. It was originally designed with a
French renaissance architecture with blending traditional medieval structure with classical Italian
structures. With its myriad lanterns, chimneys and dormer windows, Chambord is a breathtaking

• Tour of Château de Chenonceau (17.3 km from Château Loire)
Rebuilt in 1513 by Katherine Briçonnet on the Cher River, the Chateau reflection can be seen upon
the water. The Chateau is surrounding by natural beauty all around – water, gardens and the park.
The chateau features the Five Queens’ bedroom, in memory of Catherine de’Medici’s two daughters
and three daughters-in-law. The ceiling displays the Five Queens’ coats-of-arms. Click HERE to

Chateau is surrounded by large sculpted garden and park, and served as an inspiration for Hergé’s
Marlinspike Hall in his book, The Adventures of Tintin (comic book). A pack of 70 dogs is kept on the
grounds of the castle and taken out twice weekly for hunts. Tourists can view the dogs feeding. The
chateau features Louis XIII classical architectural structure distinguished with symmetries. Nothing
has changed throughout the castle, and it still maintains the same exterior it had 350 years ago. Click

• Tour of Château de Blois (25.4 km from Château Loire)
The residence of several French kings, the chateau was built in the middle of town, with several
buildings constructed between the 13th and 17th centuries. The most famous piece of architecture in
the chateau is François I’s spiral staircase. Joan of Arc was blessed here in 1429, by the Archbishop
of Reims before going to Orleans to drive out the English. The chateau was home to several Kings
including, Louis XII, François I, Henri III, Henry IV, anad Gaston d’Orléans. In 1841, the chateau
was classified as a historic mounted and was restored by Felix Duban.

• Tour of Château du Clos Lucé (25.4 km from Château Loire)
Visit the chateau where da Vinci spent his final years. Da Vinci was invited to France by François I,
and Da Vinci resided there from 1516 to 1519. Da Vinci was “free to think, dream and work” at the
chateau and was respected by François I; his sister, Marguerite; and the whole court.
