					                       TDF RAP Summer Intensive Scholarship
                        A Workshop for Student Playwrights

Who is eligible: HS Students grade 9-12 who are interested in learning the craft of
playwriting and creating their own play.

Students must have well developed writing skills, interest in playwriting, and a
recommendation from a teaching artist, or English teacher. Team spirit, commitment
and enthusiasm are important qualities for this program.

What is the RAP Summer Intensive Scholarship:
   o Playwriting workshops four days a week, for 2 weeks, with independent
       writing done on your own
   o Attend two Broadway or Off Broadway plays—for study & inspiration
   o Small group seminars with top playwrights about creative process and craft
   o Write (and rewrite) a ten-minute original play
   o Professional actors available to read student plays in progress each week
   o Final work given a staged reading by professional actors in an Off Broadway
       theatre
   o Snacks and Metro cards are provided

When is the RAP Summer Intensive Scholarship:
    Two weeks, four days a week, five hours a day
    July 5th-15th
    5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, final presentation on the 15th
    1-4pm

    1. Sample writing essay- please answer the question: Why write plays?
    2. Playwriting- a three-page sample from a play you’ve written or
       created for this application.

                   RAP Summer Intensive Scholarship (RSIS)
                                            Student Contract
The success of the RSIS lies in your total understanding of what will be expected of you and
           your willingness to accept the terms and conditions of this contract.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES ARE AS FOLLOWS:
I. Attendance
 The classes. You must attend EVERY class and arrive on time or early. A great deal of time and effort
     has been spent in organizing and arranging each of the classes.
 Direct and timely communication. This may include: attending any meetings concerning RSIS held by
     your teaching artist, responding promptly to phone calls and/or e-mails by either your teacher or from tdf
     and informing us of any issues or conflicts. We, at TDF, feel that there are no problems we can’t solve if
     given enough time. Acting responsibly is the best way of showing your commitment to the program.
 Attending the performances. Tickets will be bought for you to attend two shows on or off Broadway. You
     are expected to attend with the group.
II. Writing
      You must complete and work on writing as assigned, including all homework assignments.
      You must adhere to deadlines set by the teaching artist and tdf.
      You will complete a 10-minute play by the end of the intensive.
                                           Student Commitment

I have thoroughly read and discussed the terms of this contract with my parent/guardian. I
accept the RAP Summer Intensive Scholarship with the understanding that:
   The project will involve my attendance at each scheduled class and in-depth involvement in the
    written and class work.
   It is my responsibility to cooperate fully with the teaching artist and TDF and to respond promptly to
    his/her communications.

I have thoroughly read and discussed the terms of this contract with my child. I fully support my
child’s involvement in this program with the understanding that he/she:
       will be required to attend every class
       will be responsible for meeting deadlines and keeping up with the class work

I also understand that in permitting my child to apply to the program I give TDF permission
to:
       Select the shows that my child is taken to see. In doing so, I am entrusting them with the responsibility of
        selecting shows that have artistic and educational value. I understand that some of the shows may have
        sophisticated and adult content.
       Determine the practicality and safety of approving an outing in case of inclement weather.
       Use any photos take may be taken of my child or quotes for publicity and fundraising purposes.
