                              Human Resource Manager

Scope of Responsibilities

The Human Resource Manager creates and administers all of the day-to-day operations of the
human resources functions and duties for GYC. S/he carries out responsibilities in some or all of
the following functional areas: recruitment, orientation, compensation and benefits, performance
evaluation and improvement systems; termination processes, and assists and advises GYC’s staff
directors about HR issues.

This position requires an individual who is committed to leading practices toward developing an
employee-oriented, high performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity
and standards, goal attainment, and the recruitment and ongoing development of a superior

Reports to: Director of Finance and Administration
Location: Bozeman, Montana
Position Status: Regular half-time
FSLA Status: Exempt

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Assists staff directors with hiring processes, including:
          o job analysis and development of job descriptions, announcements and ads
          o placing job announcements and ads
          o collating resumes and collateral materials for distribution to hiring teams
          o setting up interviews and assisting with travel arrangements for interviewees
          o communicating with job applicants as needed, including official notification of the
             status of their application
          o write letters of employment
    Keep log of search ads placements and their costs
    Stay current on effective search practices and tools
    Receive unsolicited resumes, share with appropriate staff
    Respond to employment inquiries
    Manage orientation for new employees, including:
          o compile employee handbooks
          o provide orientation on policies, procedures, and board relations
          o coordinate with other staff who provide orientation in other areas
          o review employment forms and benefits with new employees within three business
            days of their start date as needed
          o ensure all new employee documentation and benefits enrollments are completed
          o arrange for the order of business cards, company credit cards, office space,
            furnishings and equipment, and other tools specific to a new hire

Compensation Management
   Monitor pay equity, and make recommendations for adjustments as needed
   Participate in compensation and benefit surveys, and gather survey data as needed or
   Prepare total compensation reports and provide to supervisors in preparation of employee
   Research compensation for like jobs at the local, regional or national levels to ensure GYC
     compensation is reasonable and externally competitive, but not more than necessary to
     attract and retain a professional and competent staff
   Make salary recommendations to supervisors
   Annually review, with the Director of Finance and Administration, staff compensation to
     ensure internal equity (including ensuring no discrimination against any protected class of
     employees) and external competitiveness

Benefits Management
    Manage GYC's benefit program, including health insurance, cafeteria plan, dental plan and
       retirement programs, including enrollments, changes, terminations, communications to staff
       and with contract administrators
    Periodically review benefits, and research options to ensure our plans are equitable and cost

Performance Reviews
    Maintain calendar of employee reviews and inform supervisors and staff of reviews due
    Ensure review documentation is complete and added to personnel files

    Manage termination processes, ensuring documentation and correct procedure
    Meet with departing employees to perform exit interview, review final pay, provide benefit
      information, such as COBRA insurance information and forms, etc.
    Notify benefit providers of terminations
    Cancel credit cards

       Regulatory compliance and reporting
       Policy development and documentation
       Maintain personnel records
       Document changes in employment status/job descriptions
       Communicate employment information and decisions as needed to relevant staff
       Bring personnel policy update needs to the Director of Finance and Administration, as needed
       Seek continuing professional education to stay current on new rules and regulations concerning
        hiring, employment and human resource issues
       Manage any grievance processes, ensuring documentation and correct procedure
       Provide an annual HR report for delivery to the Board
       Plan and execute annual staff retreat with GYC’s Events Coordinator
       Maintain staff roster
       Identify training to help individuals improve their knowledge and skills for their current job
        also and prepare for future opportunities
       Employee safety
       Other human resource duties as assigned

   Degree in personnel administration or human resources management preferred; or a
       combination of education and several years of progressive experience in HR administration
   Up to date on latest HR trends
   Knowledge of information systems and excellent computer skills
   Must be a self starter and work independently
   Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
   A commitment to organizational goals
   Must be able to cope with conflicting points of view and function well under pressure
   Must be sensitive to and maintain confidential information
   Demonstrate discretion, integrity, fair-mindedness, and a persuasive, congenial personality
