after a succession of deed transfers, it was purchased by its current owners in 2004. In 2008, when the majority of the

brought to the United States by soldiers following their European tour of duty in World War 1, and promoted by
Hollywood’s elaborate and fanciful set designs. m

This Italian Renaissance Revival home comes with a heroic history. In the 1920s, Anaheim’s City Council, Police
Department, and Fire Department were largely run by the notorious KKK. While there were no tales of lynchings,
rallies in nearby City Park (now Pearson Park) were commonplace for the hooded crew of roughly 300 members. Old

time Anaheim boosters such as William Alexander, the builder of this house, stood against the Klan. It took courage
for Mr. Alexander to build this home in direct site of the Klan meetings across the street. In addition to the clay tile
construction of this home’s walls, work crews attest to the fact that each room of this house rests on its own individual
foundation, perhaps in anticipation of someone setting a fire or even a bomb. Thankfully the violence never came to
pass, together with other Anaheim heroes, Mr. Alexander his friends drove the Klan from Anaheim, never to return.

This now peaceful home reflects Italian Renaissance Revival style architecture, a sophisticated style rather rare for
sleepy 1920s Anaheim. The hipped clay tile roof, deep overhang, and stucco body are all typical of the style that sets this
house apart on this prominent corner. m

The Cape Cod is a form of Colonial Revival style architecture, reflecting America’s fascination with its past in the early
decades of the 20th Century. The symmetrical placement of windows, with a formal entry leading to a center hall, is
made friendlier with dormers across the roofline to allow light and air into the home. Unlike true Cape Cod houses that
placed the chimney in the center of the home where all rooms might access the flue for fireplaces, the revival style places
the chimney on the end of the house, as a more decorative feature not required for warmth. m

Built for prominent businessman and developer, William E. Duckworth, this 1922 Craftsman Chalet--and sometimes
identified as an Airplane Bungalow--is an example of the elegant homes which were built in North Park by the affluent

wrap-around porch with a low cement wall providing privacy for “porch sitters,” a social activity which early Anaheim
residents thoroughly enjoyed especially on warm summer days. The low, wide front gable approximates the wings of
an airplane and is supported with stocky, square posts atop tapered piers.

One of its early residents, Mary J. Buffree, used the home as a music studio from 1936-1945 and nearly 50 students
a week took piano classes at her home on North Lemon. Some early Anaheimers will also remember the home as the
Fluor House in recognition of William E. Dunn, the Vice President of the Los Angeles branch of the Fluor Construction
Company. The current owners are carrying on the tradition of being involved community members and are very active
in neighborhood and civic events and participate on local boards and commissions. m

Thought to be a Sears, Roebuck Catalog House, this home would have been transported unassembled and delivered
with all the materials measured and sawn ready to be erected on the parcel of the purchaser’s choice. Theodore and

and the construction of their Craftsman bungalow began. The home remained in the Held Family name until 1977 and
was acquired in 2003 by the current owners.

This traditional one story bungalow is amazingly intact after almost 90 years of evolving housing trends and now
stands as testimony to the craftsmanship and charm of modestly-designed homes. Notable in its exterior appearance
is the open front porch with chunky gray and white brick columns and a matching brick clad chimney. Symmetrical
picture windows topped with two rows of small, multi-paned lights adorn the front of the house. The one car garage
still contains barn style front door and a rear sliding door for the storage of a horse and carriage. No longer zoned for
horses, the garage is now outfitted for automobile usage. m

Located just outside the western gate to the city and utilized as farmland until 1920, the residential and commercial area
known as 5 Points offered new housing and business opportunities to Anaheim’s growing population. By the 1990s,
