CONSIDER THE BENEFITS OF APPLYING FOR EARLY DECISION
If you want the maximum financial award package from each
school, early decision locks your child into that school. Once the
school knows you will be attending their school and they have no
competition they may not offer you the best financial award.
TAKE YOUR TIME MAKING A DECISION
Wait until you hear from all of your schools. If haven’t but can,
visit the schools when you can meet other accepted students and
professors, and checkout the dorm life on campus. Compare
your award packages and evaluate the complete opportunity –
select the one where you feel you will thrive. Make an informed
decision and take the time you have been given to accept.
FINALLY … DON’T MISS A DEADLINE
FAFSA – Be sure to file as soon as possible after January 1st of
your senior year. Don’t worry if you or your parents have not filed
your tax returns – provide the best estimate of the financial data
requested. Once you file your returns you will be able to update
the data on the FAFSA. A word of caution, don’t miss a large
financial input and then add it later.
PROFILE – If you are applying to a "Profile" school you must file
the FAFSA and the Profile. Be sure you know the deadlines for the
Profile Schools to which you have applied for financial aid.
TAX RETURNS – Profile schools will most likely contact you and
ask that you submit your filed tax returns. Be sure to submit the
requested tax returns to them in a timely manner.
AWARD ACCEPTANCE – Once you have carefully considered all
your options and award packages, don’t miss the deadline to
accept your chosen one.
