Drexel University Undergraduate Admissions Application Materials APPLYING TO DREXEL UNIVERSITY Drexel offers undergraduate students three ways to apply for admission. You are required to submit transcripts from each high school attended. A transcript request form is included for your use. J Undergraduate Admissions Application To expedite the application process please write your full legal name (no nicknames, please) on all items submitted. Your Social Security number is also required to be considered for financial aid or scholarships. You may only submit one application. If you need to change your major or co-op selection after submitting your application, please contact Undergraduate Admissions at enroll@drexel.edu or 1-800-2-DREXEL; international students may dial 1-215-895-2400. J Letters of Recommendation Two letters of recommendation are required. At least one must be completed by a high school counselor. Forms are available on page 9. Recommendations on official letterhead will also be accepted. If you are applying to the BA/BS/MD Accelerated Degree program, your letters must be from a high school counselor and a science teacher. J Application Fee, $75 (waived if you apply on campus or online at www.drexel.edu/ugapp) Submit before admission deadline: J Standardized Test Scores You must take either the SAT or ACT and request that the results be forwarded to Undergraduate Admissions. All students should use the following codes to send score reports to Drexel: SAT 2194 or ACT 3556. J Essay All applicants must submit a 1–2 page essay online at www.drexel.edu/apply/essay. We cannot accept essays submitted on paper. Westphal College of Media Arts & Design applicants should relate their essay topic to their interest in their major. If you are applying to an accelerated degree program in the Westphal College, your essay topic should relate to your selected major and indicate why you are a good candidate for the program. Accelerated degree applicants (except BA/BS/MD and BA/BS/JD): You should describe the factors that influenced your decision to pursue an accelerated degree in your chosen profession. • BA/BS/JD applicants should refer to www.drexel.edu/apply/bsjd for specific essay topics. • BA/BS/MD applicants should refer to the College of Medicine Supplemental Application at www.drexel.edu/apply/bsmd for specific essay topics. • BS/PhD applicants must also describe any research involvement. J Mail Application Materials Undergraduate Admissions Drexel University 3141 Chestnut Street Philadelphia, PA 19104-2876 EARLY ACTION FOR WESTPHAL COLLEGE OF MEDIA ARTS & DESIGN Applicants with exceptional academic qualifications who have decided the Westphal College is their top choice can apply early and receive an admission decision sooner in the admission process. A complete application is due December 1. Early Action applicants will receive a decision around January 8. If you are admitted, you have until May 1 to fully explore Drexel and confirm your intention to enroll. If you do not receive admission, your application will be deferred to the regular decision process. This is a nonbinding Early Action program. The regular admission deadline for Westphal programs is February 1. Regular decision applicants will receive a decision 6–8 weeks after their application is complete. A transcript is official only when it is sent directly from an institution to Undergraduate Admissions, or when it is officially signed, stamped in color, and sealed. J Proof of Financial Responsibility Proof of financial responsibility for students who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents is required to obtain a student visa. All documents must be notarized and written in English. You must submit the Financial Certification Form, which can be downloaded at www.drexel.edu/apply/undergrad/fincert.pdf, and at least one of the following documents: • A current official bank letter in either your name or your sponsor’s name. The signature of the bank official must attest to the amount of funds available in the account. • A non-Drexel scholarship award letter in your name. Enclose a signed letter or affidavit of support giving full details regarding the promise of support, and the specific amount of money in U.S. dollars. J Standardized Tests All international applicants (except as indicated below) may take the SAT or the TOEFL if your native language is not English. International applicants with both SAT and TOEFL scores are considered more competitive candidates. Results must be forwarded to Undergraduate Admissions. INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS, PERMANENT RESIDENTS, AND U.S. CITIZENS BORN ABROAD J Transcripts Nursing ACE, RN–BSN Degree Completion, and Radiologic Technology applicants: You must have transcripts evaluated by one of the following three agencies if you received your degree or attended an institution outside of the United States: • World Education Services (WES), www.wes.org • International Consultants of Delaware, www.icdel.com • Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE), www.ece.org J Standardized Tests Nursing ACE, BSN Co-op, and RN–BSN Degree Completion applicants: You must complete the TOEFL iBT if you were born outside of the United States, regardless of citizenship, native language, or location of degree-granting institutions. If you took the TOEFL prior to the implementation of the TOEFL iBT, you will be required to take a speaking exam offered at Drexel’s English Language Center. A TOEFL examination waiver may be granted if you have eight years of consecutive education (preferably high school and post-secondary) in the United States and if you have a passing score on the TSE examination or TSE-equivalent examination offered at the Drexel University English Language Center. You must provide necessary documentation in the form of official transcripts and test scores. Additional Admission Information PREREQUISITES Please review the admission prerequisites for your major below. Your performance in AP courses may accelerate progress in your degree program. If you have received a score of 5 on any AP examination, you may elect one of the following options with the approval of your academic advisor: • Be placed in an advanced course in that AP subject • Substitute another course or credit-bearing activity in its place • Waive the course and apply the course credit to meet graduation requirements Students accepted into an accelerated degree program may, with the approval of their academic advisor, waive selected courses in which AP scores of 4 and 5 have been earned and apply the course credits to meet graduation requirements. Assessment of qualifying AP credits for placement or credit will be completed after confirmation and matriculation. The assessment will be completed by the student’s academic advisor, not by Undergraduate Admissions.
