Spring Training Education
Our inaugural Spring Training Educational Weekend was held on May 21st – 22nd at the TradeWinds Sandpiper Resort in St. Pete Beach. It was a great success Rick Martinez with over 45 registered attendees and a terrific educational line-up! The program commenced with factory tours at Bic Graphics USA and Hit Promotional Products for distributors who wanted to see “hands-on” applications from artwork to press. Afterwards, a networking reception at the resort was followed by a wonderful dinner with guest speaker Darrell Marriott, MAS of Purple Elephant Promotions presentation on “Self-Promotion Success for Peanuts” . The next morning, Darrell was back for his presentation on “How Selling Promotional ‘Programs vs. Products’ can add to your Bottom Line” The Image Wear Expo Group gave an informative seminar on . advanced screenprinting and embroidery applications.

Call for Entries for 2004 PPAF Palm Awards
Pat Payer-Kane, MAS A PPAF Palm Award can greatly benefit you and your company. Here’s how. The prestigious Palm Awards recognize outstanding promotional product professionals who exhibit qualities and characteristics that distinguish them as being superior. PPAF submits press releases about all Palm Award winners to all Industry trade publications as well as to local print news media, giving recipients tremendous PR and exposure. The Palm Awards represent a major benefit of membership in PPAF, recognizing excellence and professionalism. It’s time to begin working on your entries for the 2004 Palm Awards, as the date range for consideration is June 1, 2003 – May 31, 2004. RAC Leadership Development Conference May 13-15th,Tucson, AZ

The first day was “Cactus University,” a time for optional activities to acquaint ourselves with Tucson and the desert. Michael took a tee-time and studied cactus on the “course” and Nancy and B.J. joined up with the Jeep Rally to the desert. Serious business started on Thursday evening when the RAC delegates and others attending the 5th RAC Leadership Development Workshop joined the PPAI Board of Directors and Committee Chairs for the Sunset Reception and Networking. Friday and Saturday were heavy education days. The focus was learning from the other regional associations. For the first session, we all picked what our main interest was, Nancy (of course) went to the session on “Trade Shows,” Michael attended the presentation by TRASA (Pittsburgh regional) on their very successful publicity campaign, and BJ heard all about Board structures, bylaws and governance. We continued to compare notes after each session, so that we could update our schedules to benefit PPAF with the new information. TRASA has volunteered to share with us the details of their publicity campaign, and we look forward to having them as a speaker later this fall. We guarantee you will like it!!! (They have even offered to “loan” it to us!)

We had plenty of time for networking with our Miami/Gold Coast friends, and continued our discussion on greater collaboration for programs, and reciprocal invitations to our respective trade shows. It is a great start to more inclusive efforts within the state of Florida for Promotional Product professionals. In the course of the event we obtained additional marketing materials from PPAI to assist us with our Expo, and we learned about their process of holding Board meetings electronically – something we will see more of at PPAF in the future with their help!
