7/23/09 Dear Joan Mandle, I am writing this cover letter because I am interested in being president of the Binghamton University chapter of Democracy Matters. I am about to be a sophomore at the university and I was part of the club during my freshman year, during Todd Rabideau’s presidency. You probably remember me from the Democracy Matters summit this past January in Albany, New York. I would like to be president of this chapter, not only because Todd thinks that I would do a great job, but also, because I have experience in being a leader. In high school, I was copresident of the Gay-Straight Alliance during my senior year and in that same year, was treasurer of another club called Aspira. I am also a student who has been very involved on campus. Besides being part of Democracy Matters, I was also part of the Rainbow Pride Union and also attended many oncampus events. Todd did a good job as president and I hope to do an even better job. Unfortunately, this past summit, Jerry Zhou and I were the only non e-board members from Binghamton University who attended. I want to change that and have more students attend for next year. Speaking of Jerry, he will be the vice-president of Democracy Matters if I become president. I hope to hear back from you soon.
Sincerely, Kendall J. Lestrade
