Mogadishu,

Fishing vessels owned by companies based in Finland are reported to have been
hijacked by clan militiamen off the coast of Puntland to the northeast of
Somalia.

Three vessels were hijacked at Baar Madoobe District which lies between
Fooxaar and Beyla off the coast of Puntland. Clan militiamen are behind the
hijacking.

No comment was obtained from Puntland, but a company called Al Habib which
guards Puntland's coast told the media that the vessels are moving toward
Qandala District [in Puntland]

The vessels have been accused of fishing illegally off the Puntland coast.
This is not the first time vessels have been caught fishing in the area
illegally.
