Definite articles: “the” in English

             Singular      Plural
Masculine    le, l’        les
Feminine     la, l’        les


Indefinite articles: “a” “an” and “some” in English

              Singular      Plural
Masculine     un            des
Feminine      une           des


Indefinite articles un, une and des
-In negative sentences, un, une and des change to “de” or d’ after ne/n’…..pas.
EX: -Est-ce que tu as une moto?
    - Non, Je n’ai pas de moto.
EX: -Est-ce qu’il y un ordinatuer dans ta chambre?
     -Non, il n’y a pas d’ordinateur dans ma chambre.
EX: -Il y a des affiches?
     -Non, il n’y a pas d’affiches.

definite articles in a general sense
Often times in French, the definite articles le, la, l’ and les are used in more of a general sense
than in English. Observe these uses:

EX: J’aime la musique.
   I like music.
EX: Tu préfères le tennis et le golf?
    Do you prefer tennis or golf.
EX: Julie aime les jeux vidéos.
    Julie likes video games.
Definite article with days of the week
In French we place the definite article “le” before the day of the week in order to express:


1 a repeated action.
EX: Je dîne avec mes copains le vendredi. ---- I eat with my friends on Fridays.
    “le” indicates that it happens every Friday.


2. The word “on” in French (but only with a day of the week.
EX: Le samedi nous regardons la télé.
    (On) Saturdays we watch TV.
