					CGR4M - GLOBAL WARMING ASSIGNMENT
Due April ____

Choose two of the following to complete:
1. Please read the following two articles:

   1) http://www.greenpeace.org/canada/en/campaigns/climate-and-energy Download and
read the document entitled “Energy (R)evolution”. It is lengthy, read the introduction
and as far as you need to get an understanding of the issue.

   2) Global Warming FAQ from CEI.org (http://cei.org/pdf/5331.pdf)

Please answer the following questions in report format (see me if you want more details on this
format):

   1) Briefly summarize your understanding and opinions of global warming prior to reading
      these articles.
   2) Describe the tone of each article. Do they appear to have similar goals or are they
      trying to achieve different ends?
   3) According to both articles, the average global temperature has risen over the past 100
years. How do the articles differ in their interpretations of this fact?
   4) Differing over interpretations is one thing, but in some cases the articles disagree on
basic facts. Point out at least one instance where there is a direct contradiction
      between the two articles.
   5) According to each of the articles, is there a causal link between human activity and
      global climate change?
   6) Briefly explain why it is important to know if such a link occurs.

2. Investigate the effects of global warming on Canada. Be sure to include advantages and
disadvantages of the greenhouse effect on our country. Summarize your research by writing a
statement as to whether Canada would benefit form global warming or not. This question
should be done in essay format including references. (500 word min.)

3. Research on the internet the Copenhagen Summit, the Kyoto protocol and the Earth Summit
at Rio. Compare the three documents and make notes on how the Kyoto protocol and now
Copenhagen summit has changed and developed from the initial Rio summit. Prepare a report
summarizing each summit, the differences and the outcomes. Also in your report, suggest ways
that climate change policies could be improved for an upcoming “Tavistock” summit.

4. Construct a poster that the government of Canada could use to as a part of a media
campaign to combat climate change. The poster should include an understanding of what
climate change is, the effects on our country and ways to solve the problem. It should be
creative, colourful and appealing.

*note – any research that is not your own must be referenced to avoid plagiarism. Please see
our library website for documents on referencing if you do not know proper formats already.
