Announcing the “2007 Quilters Cruise”
Welcome aboard the Carnival Pride tm
Come join us on a 7-day Mexican Riviera Cruise aboard the beautiful Carnival Pride
Departs on Sunday, April 15, 2007
The price of your cruise includes your quilting class AND your fabric
Have fun, sew with other quilters and experience our great instructors!
Why a quilters retreat on the open sea? We all love to quilt and have fun, we all need to get away to a tropical paradise, and we all need a new
excuse to meet up with our quilting buddies, so why not do it all at the same time? We have quilters coming from all over California, Southern Oregon and
as far as Montana to join us during this fun filled week to the Mexican Riviera. Do you know someone who wants to cruise but doesn’t like to sew (are
there really such people??), go ahead and bring them along! Spouses and friends are always welcomed. When you get tired of quilting (can that actually
happen??), then there is so much that you can do onboard. The Carnival Pride is a floating luxury resort. They have a wonderful selection of excursions
that you can book online or while onboard to any of our three fabulous ports of call, or just wing it and enjoy the day your own way!
When and where are we going? Here’s our itinerary: Sun. 4/15/07 Los Angeles (Long Beach Port)
Mon. 4/16/07 “Fun Day” at Sea (Quilting classes)
Tues. 4/17/07 “Fun Day” at Sea (Quilting classes)
Wed. 4/18/07 Puerto Vallarta
Thurs. 4/19/07 Mazatlan
Fri. 4/20/07 Cabo San Lucas
Sat. 4/21/07 “Fun Day” at Sea (Quilting classes)
Sun. 4/22/07 Los Angeles (Long Beach Port)
What is the cost? The prices below include your half of a stateroom cabin (all prices are based on double occupancy), Passenger Departure Tax*,
Customs Fee*, Immigration Fee* and other Governmental Taxes/Charges*, all onboard meals (they have food available 24 hrs a day!), onboard activities &
entertainment, and your quilting class! And guess what? Your class includes your fabric too! (backing & batting not included). Cabin selections are on a
first come, first paid basis. Prices DO NOT include gratuities (which are $70 for the entire week, per person, and can be prepaid or charged to your cabin
on your Sail & Sign card). Note: Those who just want to cruise and not attend a class, pay the same price as everyone else.
Category 4A: Inside Cabin $816.54 per person
Category 6A: Ocean View Cabin $926.54 per person
Category 8A: Balcony Cabin $1,026.54 per person
Who is putting this together? A mother & daughter team of quilters, of course! We just needed a good excuse to get away and quilt, and what better
way than on a Carnival Cruise. Perky Brouillette is a quilter from Auburn, CA and has won her share of awards at local quilt shows, but she is also a Travel
Agent with Adventure Travel who specializes in cruises and loves to arrange retreats like this one. Her daughter Lisa Marie is a new quilter, but is totally
hooked and lives in Yreka, CA. Lisa Marie just returned from a vacation on this very same ship to the Mexican Riviera and had the time of her life! Please
call them if you have any questions regarding the cruise or the classes. All their information is on the back of this flyer.
How do I get there? The prices above do not include your transportation to and from the ship, so we are leaving that up to you to arrange. However,
we have some great prices on group air if anyone is interested. If you plan on flying, make sure your plane arrives no later than noon on 4/15/07 and be
sure your flight home on 4/22/07 doesn’t leave until after 1pm. Carnival Bus transfers to & from the Los Angeles Airport (LAX) are available for $46 round
trip, just call Perky to order these. You can also take Super Shuttle from LAX to the Long Beach Port for a lot less! For those flying directly to the Long
Beach Airport (LGB), Shuttle 2000 and Super Shuttle both offer shuttle services at the airport to the Port for a nominal fee. Taxis are available at both
airports. If you are driving to the port, follow the signs to the Queen Mary Terminal, but park in the Port Terminal. Parking is $10 a day.
Should I act now? Securing your class and cabin is on a first come, first paid basis! We have three very talented, very dedicated teachers who will be
sharing their unique talents and techniques with you three hours a day, each day we are at sea – so quilting will not interfere with exploring our great ports
of call. You should be able to finish your project within the nine hour class time. Classes will be held during the daytime hours, so you will never miss the
wonderful dinners or fabulous nighttime shows. Classes are filling up fast and we have limited class seating, so don’t delay! Those who mail in a completed
deposit form accompanied by a check or money order for $375.00 will be placed in the class of their choice until that class fills up, then quilters will be
placed in their 2nd choice class, and so on. All quilters who sign up before we reach our maximum number of total students (for all three classes), will be
guaranteed a class. It could be your 2nd or 3rd choice depending on when we received your deposit. We believe all our classes and instructors are
awesome, so you can’t really lose! Interested in taking a second class? For an additional $100, you can take two classes – which also includes the fabric
for that class! Just make a notation of which class you want as an “additional” class on the deposit form and send the fee in with your deposit check.
How do I sign up and pay? Complete the deposit form & mail it in with a check for $375.00 to secure a class seat and a cabin category. Only $250 of
this can be paid by credit card, the remaining $125 must be by check or money order. The final payment is due by 1/15/07, payable by check or credit
card. At that time you will be mailed confirmation of your cabin number, the class you are in, a supply list (remember, your fabric is included in the price!)
and more details on packing, boarding, etc. YOUR ENTIRE DEPOSIT IS TOTALLY REFUNDABLE UNTIL THE FINAL PAYMENT DUE DATE OF
1/15/07. Carnival offers a Vacation Protection Plan, call Perky for details. Important: US officials have just delayed the date of requiring sea faring
passengers to have passports until January of 2008; however we HIGHLY recommend that you bring yours or that you get one, as it will speed up the
process of getting onboard and going through customs. If you don’t bring one or don’t plan on getting one, you MUST bring a DMV issued ID or
Drivers License AND a Certified Copy of your Birth Certificate – or you will not be able to board the ship. We accept no responsibility for anyone
who is denied boarding due to not having the proper documents in hand and you will not receive any refund for anything you have spent for this trip. You
will need a passport if you plan on going on our next retreat; the “2008 Quilters Cruise” to Alaska in August 2008. Passports are good for ten years. For
more information on passports, go to http://travel.state.gov/ . For more information on Carnival Cruise Lines, check out their site at www.carnival.com .

Instructors and Classes
RAMI KIM, Sacramento, CA: Rami is a DNA scientist-turned fabric artist/quilter/instructor. She graduated from Seoul
National University and UC San Francisco majoring in chemistry and molecular endocrinology and worked at the Cancer
Research Institute at UCSF before her passion and talent in fabric art drastically changed her career nine years ago. She has
won 11 “Best of Show” awards and many more both here and abroad. Her specialty is contemporary art-to-wear & quilts and
she is known for her distinctive colors and techniques. She would rather spend time with fabrics, threads and beads than
DNA sequencing gels and radioactive isotopes of cold, gray science!
**CLASS: Lotus Blossom Chopkey. This is the Korean word for folding, which she learned from her grandmother and taught on
“Simply Quilts” on HGTV. You will create elegant 3-D blossoms with an Asian Flair. She is also teaching The Fifth Dimension. You
will learn six of the exotic and unusual methods that are Rami’s trademark; hexagon chopkey, biscuit chopkey, Northamerican hand
smocking, continuously folded & lined prairie points, and harlequin tucks. Create those 3-D textures you’ve always wanted to add onto
quilts, wearables, and bags. www.RamiKim.com
NANCY NELSON, Yreka, CA: Nancy owns and operates WOODS ‘N THREADS QUILT SHOP, a successful quilting store
in Yreka, CA. She offers not only classes, but quality products and beautiful fabrics. She creates that warm fuzzy feeling
you love to get when you walk into a quilt shop. She has been quilting for 32 years and is known for the wonderful, fun
filled retreats she has been offering over the past 16 years. Nancy enjoys teaching Beginning Quilters the nuts and bolts they
need to know, as well as offering Advanced Quilters the classes that really challenge and excite them.
**CLASS: New York Beauty Block. You will be creating these beautiful blocks using a freezer paper method. Nancy is bringing
nothing but the finest batiks for you to use. Allowing you, the student, to select your own packet of fat quarters, which will make your
quilt as personal as you are! You will learn unique techniques, color & contrast and most of all, design. The blocks you create can be
used as a wall hanging or expanded into a larger quilt of your own design. email@example.com
PAT LUI, Corona, CA: Pat has had a passion for sewing and designing original art wear for 25 years. She discovered the
technique of Faux Chenilletm and then designed her own style of Quilted Chenilletm. This versatile technique can be sewn
into beautiful fashion items from exquisite dupioni silk & linen jackets for women, to everyday cotton vests. This included
children’s wear, pillows, baby blankets and quilts. Pat’s other passion is Dolls. She began making original cloth and
polymer clay dolls in 1991 and has not only sold hundreds of them; Pat has won 16 Blue Ribbons and “Best of Shows”. She
enjoys teaching classes on Quilted Chenilletm and dolls. Email her for more information about her upcoming website.
**CLASS: Chenille Vest. The photo to the left does not do this textured vest any justice! You will learn how to take this soft, 100%
cotton fabric, stitch it all up, then slash it apart again, and create an incredible looking garment that will compliment any wardrobe. Pat’s
pattern is not sold in stores, the only way to learn her technique is through one of her workshops. You will not only be able to duplicate
this process later at home, you will also walk off the ship in a completed vest in your size! MADaboutChenille@aol.com
