In this role, Mr. Campbell has consulted with a wide variety of insurance companies, helping clients address key strategic business and financial issues, such as the analysis of sources of portfolio risk, the development of capital and growth strategies, and the setting of asset allocation strategies. Prior to assuming his current duties, John worked in Gen Re’s asset management division where he was responsible for the development of analytic systems. Mr. Campbell is a graduate of the Duke University with a B.S. in Computer Science/ Economics, of the N.Y.U. Stern School of Business with an M.B.A. in Finance, and a graduate of New York University with an M.S. in Computer Science. He is married with one child. KATHLEEN M. CARROLL MANAGING DIRECTOR GUY CARPENTER & COMPANY, INC. Kathleen M. Carroll is a Managing Director of Guy Carpenter & Company in Philadelphia where she advises brokers and clients with respect to reinsurance contracts and regulatory matters. Prior to her family’s move to Pennsylvania, she was General Counsel and Secretary for Chartwell Re Corporation, a publicly traded insurance holding company until its acquisition by Trenwick America in 1999. She was employed by Chartwell from 1993 until 1999 and was responsible for the corporate secretarial function, all general corporate matters, insurance regulatory issues, contracts and advising the Claim Department. Previously, she was Second Vice President and Assistant General Counsel at NAC Reinsurance Corporation responsible for insurance regulatory compliance, arbitrations and litigation. She was a co-author of NAC Re’s Liability Bulletin and In Brief. Ms. Carroll began her career at the Hartford Group and served in positions of increasing responsibility at the American Insurance Association and Swiss Reinsurance Group. She is a graduate of Providence College and Loyola University School of Law. Ms. Carroll resides in Gettysburg, PA with her husband, David, two children and three horses. DIANA M. CHAFEY PARTNER DLA PIPER US LLP Diana M. Chafey is a Partner in the Insurance and Reinsurance Practice Group at DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary US LLP in Chicago. Ms. Chafey has practiced law in the insurance and reinsurance industry for over 12 years, first serving as counsel to Allstate Insurance Company’s Law and Regulation Division, then as Corporate Counsel and Vice President, General Counsel to Interstate Insurance Group, member companies of the Allianz Group. Ms. Chafey has represented foreign and domestic P&C and life insurance and reinsurance companies and intermediaries in transactional and regulatory matters, mergers, acquisitions and divestures, commutations, novations and structured risk transactions. Ms. Chafey has spent a substantial amount of time counseling insurers and reinsurers in connection with over 200 finite insurance and reinsurance transactions, and provides compliance, structuring and strategic advice to insurance and reinsurance companies that buy and sell finite and other structured insurance products. Ms. Chafey most recently spent a month at a client’s offices working on complex life reinsurance transactions. PETER R. CHAFFETZ PARTNER CLIFFORD CHANCE US LLP Peter R. Chaffetz led the Global Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice of Clifford Chance for the last four years and is US Practice Group Leader for Reinsurance and International Arbitration. He has had a broad ranging career as a business trial lawyer and is a well-known specialist in reinsurance arbitration and insurance insolvency law. His cases have included some of the most significant insurance and reinsurance issues in recent years, including coverage disputes arising from the World Trade Center disaster, finite risk disputes, surety reinsurance issues arising from the collapse of Enron, and the collapse of the workers compensation “carve out” market. His appellate wins include a leading decision from the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals on the law relating to consolidation of arbitrations, a decision from the California Supreme Court upholding the right of offset in insurance insolvency, and a ruling from the California Court of Appeal on issues relating to contract formation and fraud damages. Mr. Chaffetz regularly speaks and publishes. In April 2008 he spoke at the Reinsurance Claims Conference in London, addressing the topic “Winning Strategies for Dispute Resolution – Comparing and Contrasting the Pros and Cons of Arbitration and Mediation”. In March 2008 he chaired the Clifford Chance global forum on “Financial Regulation in Europe after the Crunch” in New York. In September 2007 he presented on “Runoff in the 21st Century: The US, The UK and Beyond” at the Reinsurance Association of America (RAA) Re Claims conference in Philadelphia. He also co-chaired the American Conference Institute (ACI) Advanced Forum on Reinsurance Claims in September 2007 in Philadelphia. In August 2007 he spoke at a US Chamber of Commerce conference in Washington DC on the subject “A View From the Board Room: How the Threat of Litigation Affects Investment Decisions”. In September 2006 he presented at the ACI Forum on Reinsurance Arbitration in New York. In April 2005 he was a lecturer on the subject of “US Arbitrations: Keys to Success” at the Reinsurance Claims and Collections conference in London. Mr. Fisher was formerly a Senior Vice President of Swiss Re Financial Services Corporation. He was with Swiss Re from 1974 thru 2003. He has held various positions with subsidiaries of the Swiss Reinsurance Company since 1974 including serving as General Counsel of several operating subsidiaries of Swiss Re. Mr. Fisher received his J.D. from Cornell University in 1969 and his A.B. from Colgate University in 1966. Kragseth is a Vice President and Chief Contracts Officer for Munich Reinsurance America, Inc. in Princeton, New Jersey. An attorney having over 18 years of private and corporate experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry, David has spent the last fifteen years specializing in reinsurance contracts. Following a federal judicial clerkship and private practice in Minneapolis, Minnesota, David began his professional reinsurance career as a Manager in the Contract Wording Department for Everest Reinsurance Company followed by a position as Vice President in the Contracts Department at Zurich Reinsurance (North America), Inc. in New York City. David has co-authored a number of seminar publications and has spoken at various industry conferences on issues concerning reinsurance contract wording. David earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and his Juris Doctor degree from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. He is a member of the Minnesota State Bar and holds an Associate in Reinsurance professional designation. MYRA E. LOBEL MANAGING DIRECTOR GUY CARPENTER & COMPANY, INC. Myra Lobel is a Managing Director in the contracts area of Guy Carpenter & Company, a leading reinsurance intermediary. In this capacity she is responsible for contract negotiations as well as developing innovative reinsurance and insurance contract wording to address emerging issues, including dispute resolutions concerns. Ms. Lobel provides opinions on insurance regulatory matters, and also provides expertise in drafting specialized agreements such as trusts and structured agreements accessing capital for the property and casualty insurance industry. In addition, she monitors a spectrum of industry issues and develops strategies for clients facing issues such as collateralization/security concerns and terrorism exposure. She also serves as a consultant on claims and coverage disputes. Ms. Lobel is an experience commercial litigator. She began her career in 1985 as an attorney at the Corporation Counsel of the City of New York where she handled all areas of commercial litigation from investigation, pleading, discovery, and motion practice to trial work and settlement negotiations. In 1989 she joined the New York City law firm of Mound, Cotton and Wollan. Ms. Lobel handled reinsurance arbitrations involving complex treaty and facultative reinsurance disputes from selection of arbitration panels and applications for security to confirmation of awards and/or negotiations of commutation and settlement agreements. Her practice involved representation of major insurance companies in all aspects of property, casualty, life, and health insurance disputes, ranging from large-scale environmental matters to subrogation suits. Prior to joining Guy Carpenter, Ms. Lobel worked at Zurich Reinsurance Centre, Inc., concentrating on emerging legal and contract issues such as mold, pollution, class actions suits and tort reform. Ms. Lobel graduated from Rutgers Law School and was a member of the Law Review. She received the ARe designation in 1994 as a member of the Association of Professional Insurance Women. Ms. Lobel is a frequent lecturer at insurance industry seminars and has written for a number of insurance publications. FRANK J. MAFFA, CFE, CIE VICE PRESIDENT –STATUTORY FINANCIAL REPORTING MUNICH REINSURANCE AMERICA, INC. Frank Maffa is Vice President of Munich Reinsurance America, Inc. in Princeton, New Jersey. He has been with Munich Re America for more than 19 years and has over 31 years of industry experience. Frank’s current responsibilities include preparation of the statutory financial statements (yellow books), statutory accounting modeling, financial analysis, regulatory compliance, and completion of many regulatory forms including Risk Based Capital Report. Frank has also participated in the development of the corporate accounting phase of a new reinsurance software system being developed by Munich Re. Prior to joining Munich Re America, Frank Maffa worked 4 years as Insurance Examiner for the New York State Insurance Department, and 8 years for the State of Delaware Insurance Department. As an examiner, he was responsible for the regulatory financial audits of many insurance and reinsurance companies. Over the last 15 years, Frank has participated in various industry/regulatory liaison groups such as Reinsurance Study Group, Statutory Accounting Principles Interested Parties, Annual Statement Instructions Working Group, and others. Frank is a frequent speaker at seminars presented by the Reinsurance Association of America. Frank has also participated in educational programs sponsored by the Society of Financial Examiners, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, the World Bank, the U.S. Department of Commerce, Drake University, the University of Dallas and the Illinois State University. Frank graduated from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. MALONEY SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, CORPORATE COUNSEL & CORPORATE SECRETARY QBE REINSURANCE CORPORATION Pete Maloney is Senior Vice President, Corporate Counsel and Corporate Secretary of QBE Reinsurance Corporation and its insurer affiliates. He is responsible for dispute resolution, contract wording, transactional and regulatory affairs, QBE’s claims operations, and corporate governance. KEVIN MCCUNE SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT FOLKSAMERICA REINSURANCE COMPANY Kevin L. McCune is a Senior Vice President in the Legal Department at Folksamerica Reinsurance Company. An attorney with over 17 years of experience in the area of reinsurance contracts, Kevin has been with Folksamerica Reinsurance Company since 2007 where he is responsible for reviewing all treaty wordings received at Folksamerica and working with the underwriters in negotiating those wordings. Kevin began his career at the reinsurance intermediary E.W. Blanch Company (now Benfield) in the contracts department. In 1999, he became the manager of a regional contracts team for Guy Carpenter and Company, and in 2000 he assumed the position of National Director of Contracts for Willis Re Inc. Kevin has spoken at seminars sponsored by the RAA and the California, Michigan, and Florida Insurance Departments. He has taught numerous classes on contractual and legal issues in primary insurance and reinsurance and was a contributing author to the Insurance Institute of America’s Reinsurance Practices textbook (Second Edition). JACK WHITTLE GEN RE Jack Whittle is a Vice President and Assistant General Counsel for General Reinsurance Corporation in their Stamford, Connecticut home office, and has worked in Gen Re's Legal Department on litigation, transactional and regulatory matters since joining the company in 2000. Before joining Gen Re, Mr. Whittle was a Vice President and Associate General Counsel with Reliance National in New York City, and was previously associated with LeBoeuf Lamb Greene & MacRae in their New York City office.
