Aylmer Three Pitch League
Game Rules
A. The team
a. Must have at least 2 women to play.
b. Must consist of between 8 and 15 players.
c. The roster sheet must provide the first and last name of all the players on the team.
d. Will get a 15 minute grace period from the scheduled starting time should insufficient players
(less than 8 or less than 2 women ) be present at that time. When sufficient players are present
before the end of the grace period the game shall be started.
e. Each team having less than 8 players or less than 2 women physically present will forfeit the
game with a score of 0-7. Lineup sheets must still be submitted for the players present on both
teams. In the event of a forfeit both teams will have their lineup sheets signed by the umpire.
The players present for the game and listed on the sheet will receive credit for a game played.
B. In the field
a. A maximum of 10 defensive players.
b. No more than 6 of the defensive players may be men.
c. There must be 4 women on the field at all times
C. The batting order
a. On the batting line-up sheets the first and last name must be indicated.
b. Must begin with a woman.
c. Must contain at least 10 players, 4 of whom must be women.
d. Must not have more than two men in a row.
e. A player not already in the batting order, and who was not previously in the batting order, as
long as the above rules are respected, may substitute for any player.
f. SPN re-entry rule is in effect. The league will allow re-entry player back in the game when as
a result of an injury
g. Players arriving after the beginning of the game, but before their team have gone through the
complete batting order once may be added to the END of the batting order as long as rule (d)
above is respected. Players who arrive after their team has gone through the batting order once
may only play as a substitute. Please note that an automatic out may be substituted for at any
time.
D. The Pitcher
a. Each team shall provide their own pitcher.
b. If the pitcher intentionally interferes with the play, the batter will be called out. If the pitcher
accidentally interferes with the play or is defending themselves, a strike will be issued to the
batter. (Umpire’s discretion).
c. Only Catcher, 1st base, 2nd base, 3rd base and short stop can throw the ball to the pitcher. Once
the pitcher has possession of the ball all runners must remain on the base they last acquired, or
on the base they were advancing to before the ball was thrown or given to the pitcher. A
pitcher cannot fake a catch when the ball is thrown to him/her to end a play Note: The Pocket
player is considered part of the Outfield
d. Make sure your pitcher is aware that he/she is on deck to avoid the game being delayed.
However, the pitcher cannot leave the mound until time is called.

e. Pitcher must pitch within 5 feet in front of the rubber.
E. The Play
a. No bunting (A batted ball must clear the “batter’s box”). No stealing. No leading. Penalty:
The offending player is called out.
b. A runner may tag from any base on a caught fly.
c. The male batter is out if he hits a fair ball over the fence. A fair ball that bounces over or
through the fence is a two base award. A fly ball that is touched when going over the fence
will result in 4 bases error being awarded.
d. Commitment Line: A base runner that touches the commitment line with one foot or places
one foot on the ground past the commitment line must continue on towards the scoring line. A
runner may not be tagged out between the commitment line and the scoring line. The catcher
needs only touch the plate while in possession of the ball to register the out.
e. Runners must have one foot on the ground across the line behind home plate to score.
Runners are out if they touch home plate or cross over the safety line in fair territory whether
a play is made or not. If a runner touches home plate, he/she will be called out. Sliding at
home is forbidden (penalty – the runner is out no run counted).
f. The infield fly rule is in effect.
g. A 2 Base award will be given on a live ball thrown out of play from the time of the throw.
h. Last batter: the play is over when the third out is made normally or home plate is touched by
a defensive player in possession of the ball or when the ball otherwise becomes a dead ball.
i. The line between first base and third base is in effect. Any defensive player that crosses that
line while the pitch is being thrown will result in the ball being called dead ball and the batter
will be awarded first base.
j. Any foul tip ball caught by the catcher whether there is an arc or not the batter will be called
out.
F. The Game
a. It is not permitted to drink alcohol in the dugout or to be intoxicated during the game.
Coaches please enforce this rule.
b. An inning consists of 5 runs, 3 outs or 10 batters whichever comes first. The last inning will
open to a maximum of 10 batters (including automatic outs) however in the event that a game
starts late or is running over time, no new innings will be played after 1 hour and 20 minutes
from original scheduled start time.
c. For the 5 runs to count in any inning all plays must be completed.
d. If a game must be called before 7 innings have been played (weather, lights, etc.) 5 innings
must have been completed (4½ if the home team is leading) in order to be considered a
“regular” season game. Incomplete games shall be replayed in their entirety. Players will get
credit for a game played but the statistics for will not be counted.
e. If the home team in leading by more than 10 runs after the conclusion of the 6th inning the
game will be called.
f. All play-off games must be completely played. If a play-off game is interrupted the game will
be re=played from the place that the game was at when interrupted with the same line-up
however, a player may be substituted by any player on the roster.
g. No steel cleats allowed.
h. All bats must be SPN approved (See attached list for non-approved bats)

i. Only coaches or assistant coaches can discuss the umpires’ calls. Any un-sportsmanlike
conduct will result in ejection from the game (umpires discretion), pending further discipline
by the league.
j. Game may be delayed up to 15 minutes due to weather conditions. Umpires discretion.
k. A fine of $25.00 for first offence and $50.00 for subsequent offences will be charged to any
team for any and all “no show forfeits” where the other team and the league have not been
notified any later than 5:30 when playing the 6:45 game and 2 hours before the other 8:00 and
9:15 games (No call, no show = fine)
l. When a game is forfeited the team that forfeits will not be credited with a game played
however the team that was ready to play will be allowed to submit within two days following
the forfeited game a batting order of no more than 15 names to the statistician.
m. When a game is a “no-show forfeit” both teams will submit the batting order for the players
that were in attendance at the field at the designated play time.
n. Games can be scheduled to play Monday through Friday.
G. General
a. Rules and Regulations of Softball Canada are in effect, with the exception of these league
rules. The official’s decisions are final.
b. Any disputes or disciplinary issues will be dealt with by at least three members of the
executive committee.
c. No exposed jewelry will be allowed at any time. Exception: Medical alerts only
d. Sunglasses must be worn on your face only. Anywhere else is not permitted
H. Courtesy Runners
a. A team may use a total of three (3) courtesy runners per game. How the team uses their
courtesy runners is at their discretion however a courtesy runner can only courtesy run once in
any given game unless they are a medical courtesy runner in which case the same runner may
be used however rule H-e is in effect.
b. The courtesy runner must be a player currently in the batting line-up (including substitutes)
c. A male runner can be replaced by a male or female courtesy runner. A female runner must be
replaced by a female courtesy runner.
d. The courtesy runner must be announced to the home plate umpire before the courtesy runner
is placed on base.
e. If the courtesy runner is required to bat while he/she is still on base they are to be replaced by
another courtesy runner. Should there be none remaining then they are called out but remain
on base and the next batter in the lineup is due up.
f. Players who require a runner for medical reasons do not count towards the three-runner limit.
The player MUST have the league executive’s approval prior to the game/season.
g. Medical conditions must be declared prior to beginning the game
h. Injuries during game play: If player can be removed from the field, the line-up will be
collapsed unless it results in three men batting in a row in which case the injured woman
would be replaced by an automatic out. In regular season should this mean the team falls to
less than 8 players the game will be called and the team will lose by default. In play-offs …..If
player cannot be removed from the field the game will be suspended and continues as is at the
next available time determined by the executive committee.

i. If a medical courtesy runner is awarded for a tournament it is in place for the whole
tournament. The person requiring the medical courtesy runner must stop at first base and
cannot play as an outfielder
I. The batters box
a. A line is to be marked in the dirt 4 feet in front of home plate, if the batter touches or crosses
over this line when hitting a ball either foul or fair with one foot he/she is automatically out.
This is in no relation to a “power-bunt”.
