OVERVIEW



The Goodman Theatre Internship Program offers a rich and challenging experience for
qualified college students, recent graduates and early career professionals who are actively
pursuing careers in professional theater. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.


Goodman interns have the opportunity to refine their practical and critical thinking skills
through close interaction with Goodman staff and artists, and through independent
exploration of Chicago's legendarily large and diverse theater community. The level of
responsibility entrusted to Goodman interns requires that, besides demonstrating
competence in their specific area of interest, they must also be mature, self-reliant, articulate
and able to work effectively in a highly collaborative environment.




Internships are currently offered in the following areas:

Internships in our costume, sound and scenery/prop departments are generally 6-8 weeks long
and are offered on a per-production basis. Internships in our artistic and administrative
departments are full time for 21 weeks in the fall and spring, and 13 weeks in the summer. The

Video Production internship is 25+ hours/week. Please see the stage management internship

Modest stipends are available for all internships. The awarding of academic credit is at the
discretion of the intern’s college or university. Federal Work Study may be arranged in some
cases. Goodman Theatre is an equal opportunity employer.

HOW TO APPLY



1. Program Application


Interested and qualified candidates should email the following materials in ONE Word
document to internships@goodmantheatre.org:


      A completed application form
      A professional résumé.

      A 500-word personal statement summarizing your career goals and explaining why you
       want to work at the Goodman. How will a Goodman internship advance your
       knowledge, skills and professional life?


The subject line of your email should be your last name, followed by your first and second
choice internship areas. For example: “Smith – Education, Marketing.” If your second choice
is the same as your first, please list it only once.




2. Recommendation letters


Two letters of recommendation, which speak to your experience and ability to excel in a
demanding and highly collaborative work environment, must be EMAILED SEPARATELY directly
from the recommenders to internships@goodmantheatre.org. Letters should be signed by the
recommender, scanned and sent in PDF format if possible. The subject line of the email should
be the applicant’s last name followed by the department(s) to which s/he is applying. For
example: “Recommendation for Smith – Education, Marketing.” Due to the volume of letters
received, we cannot accept letters without this subject line.


Incomplete applications will not be considered. All materials, including recommendation letters,
must be received by the deadlines below.
