   Abstract
Water Quality content varies from community to community and from throughout the world. A number of variances
are natural differences caused by nature and some are induced by human. The research team will process and
compare the water quality results against the North Carolina Administrative Code, past CERSER research group
results, local surrounding counties, statewide, countrywide and International water quality standards for samples
from Austin, Texas; Barcelona, Spain; Pasquotank County, North Carolina; Indianapolis, Indiana; & Lake Cavalier in
Portsmouth Virginia.

The team will utilize ArcMap, Magellan GPS for mapping and plotting point’s purposes, MATLab, Microsoft Excel,
Mathematica which have statistical software capabilities within these packages will be used to display team findings.
(In order to illustrate these differences between Austin Texas, Barcelona Spain, Pasquotank County, North Carolina,
Indianapolis, Indiana & Lake Cavalier Portsmouth, Virginia). The team will utilize LaMotte testing kits examining and
then measure pH which will display acidity. Salinity, dissolved oxygen, alkalinity, hardness, nitrate, conductivity, and
DiST WP will also be tested. Water Quality content varies from community to community and from throughout the

           The team utilized Google Earth for creating an aerial dataset utilizing KMZ
scripting functionality. The team also linked and configured the Microsoft Excel
Spreadsheet to communicate with Google Earth. The 2009 Water Quality Team
developed the WSR Forms (Water sample request form) to record and maintain Water
Quality data integrity.

Data Recording Methods

The collection of the data was based upon two things:
•The information about the initial place, time, and collector that the water sample was
collected from among other data. For this data, the team took all of the water samples
previously collected and the incoming samples then made labels of the water samples
to better preserve the data. Also, a spreadsheet was made as a database for the team
and future water quality teams to refer to.
•The information that was gained about the water sample after it was tested by the
team. This was done so by the team making testing sheets that could be used while
testing to have a more accurate and precise way of recording data.
      Labels
The labels were significant in better preserving the data of the water samples.
Some of the water samples came with the information written on a piece of paper
that was wrapped around the bottle, so the team made labels that could be
placed on the water bottles so there will be a lowered chance of data being
corrupted.

Like the labels, the Excel worksheet consisted of the same headings. This
way, it would be more simple for the team to look up the water samples
without having to search through the inventory for a specific water sample.
How this was done was that the team took each water sample and after
placing in the data of the water sample into the worksheet, we labeled the
actual water sample that corresponds with the cell that the water was entered
into.
 Water Sample Testing Form

This form was developed by the team as a means to keep up the test
results of the water sample. This way, if future teams would like to refer
back to the past tests that our team had ran on the water sample, they
could compare results. On this form, there is a header for the location
from which the water sample came from, the list of chemicals that could
be tested for, what units that the data was tested in, results of the number
of trials that took place, who tested it, who recorded the data, and the
date. Also located on the sheet is the revised date and who revised the
sheet, so when future teams test the water samples, they will know if it’s
time for the testing form to be updated and who to go to for information of
the last update that took place.
