Duration: 3 days

“The ultimate measure of a leader is not where he stands in moments of comfort and
convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
- Martin Luther King, Jr.

The way in which managers and supervisors manage their resources is critical to their
personal success and the success of their organisations. Many managers are experts in
finance, technology or sales but do not have the skills to manage or lead effectively.
This means that they find it difficult to get the best out of their people and resources.

All too often management „reacts‟ to events rather than „creates‟ events. Creating
events can only happen if you know where you want to go and how best to get there.
Managers, therefore, are tasked with building a vision, building trust, developing
teams and motivating employees.

We also have to accept that, with today‟s move to „flatter‟ organisations, many
people, who would not normally think of themselves as managers, are finding
themselves leading important projects.

So, what is the difference between management and leadership?

It is a question that has been asked more than once and also answered in different
ways. The biggest difference between managers and leaders is the way they motivate
the people who work or follow them, and this sets the tone for most other aspects of
what they do. Many people, by the way, are both. They have management jobs, but
they realise that you cannot force hearts, especially to follow them down a difficult
path, and so act as leaders too.

Leading an organisation to successful results is dependent on a manager‟s ability to:
 Understand and start to implement and operate a Performance Management
        System within their companies
 Direct, motivate lead and coach their people to superior job performance

 Win and build trust and commitment with staff,
                           colleagues, partners and customers
       Become effective „Situational Leaders‟
 Communicate with optimism, power and influence

In an increasingly competitive world, successful businesses need leaders as well as
managers, to handle the heat. Even so, an individual can‟t anoint him/herself a leader.
Leadership is an honorary degree which can be bestowed only by those who are led.
Top management can assign someone to be a leader but the loyalty of those to be led
must be earned through successful attitudes and behavior. Those who have been
assigned to lead others but lack the skills or motivation to do so will forever remain
                                                                      mere managers.

This workshop will cover the following areas:
           Leadership versus Management
 Interpreting and living the Company Vision –personally and in the team
           Value based Leadership
           Implementing Performance Management
           Developing our Emotional Intelligence
           Building trust and commitment
 The Management Cycle – our process guide in all things
           Effective Communication Skills
           Situational Leadership
           Motivation
           Coaching – „hands on‟ and „hands off‟
 Analysing the causes of Poor Performance
           Giving Personal Feedback
           Counseling
 IMPaction Process – Improving My Performance through Action

‘Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants
to do it. ‘ Dwight Eisenhower
