					                           Publish Web pages with SmartFTP

To make your Web pages available on the WWW, you will need to send a copy of each to your
www directory (folder) on the RCC server.

   1. Run the SmartFTP program.
   To do this, click the following - in sequence:
   2. [ Start ] button
   3. All Programs 
   4. SmartFTP 
   5. SmartFTP (from the submenu)

I. Connect to the server
   1. Enter this information in the Address bar:
                       Address:     rcclnk.sunyrockland.edu
                       Login:       your RCC email user name
                       Password: your RCC email password

   My settings are shown here:

rcclnk.sunyrockland.edu
                            (your RCC email user name) (your RCC email password)




       2. Connect to the server.
          On the FTP menu, click Connect
          or, on the toolbar, click the [Connect] button.

          3. A remote view window will open showing your directory (folder) on the RCC server.

II. Create a Directory (First time only. If you already have a www folder, skip this section.)

   To create a new directory, do the following:
   1. Select the folder on the directories (left) side of the window that has your name. To do
      this, simply click it.
   2. Open the Command menu; click
      New.
   3. Choose Folder from the submenu
      that appears.
   4. A textbox will appear on the
      contents (right) side of the window.
       Enter the name of the new directory
       into that text box.: www
       ( all lower case ).

The same process can be used to create
subdirectories.

III. Transmit (Upload) Files
   1. Select the www directory (folder) on the server.
      To do this, click its name on the left side of the remote window.
   2. Identify the file you wish to upload.
      To do this, open the Commands menu; click Upload. Then click Direct>, then Select
      Files….
   3. A dialog box will open allowing you to choose the file you wish.
      Navigate to the folder where the file is stored.
      Select the file you wish to upload.
      Click [Open]. The file will be uploaded.

When the ftp job is complete, the page will be available on the WWW. You will be able to see it
from anywhere there is an Internet connection.


View Your Web Page
Run the browser.
The URL of your page will be similar to the one below.
   Note the tilde -- ~. It's on the top left of the keyboard to the left of the [1] key. Use the
   [Shift] key with it. There should not be spaces anywhere in the URL.
   http://www.sunyrockland.edu/~<login>/path/filename.html

   For example, if our first President uploaded a file named myfile.html to a directory named
   level1 in his www directory, the URL would be:
   http://www.sunyrockland.edu/~gwashing/level1/myfile.html



Close the FTP Program

One way to do this -- open the FTP menu and click Exit.
