Instructions:
All user defined parameters are located in the grey boxes.

String Sizing
1. Define the ambient minimum and maximum temperatures in Fahrenheit by typing values in the grey fields. ETO requires that the maximum string
size is calculated based on record cold temperatures and the minimum string size is based on the record high temperature.
2. Select type of mounting choice for the PV array. Roof = parallel to roof installation. Rack = Systems on a roof that
are tilted up 10° or more from the roof plane may be considered “Rack” mounted. Pole = Top of pole mount. The temperature adjusted calculations
are made based on this choice and the temperatures input. Module operating temperatures are estimated at the ambient temperature value plus a
temperature adjustment factor (temperature adjustment = 35°C for roof mounts, 30°C for rack mounts and 25°C for top of pole mounts).
3. Select the PV module to be used from the pull down menus.
4. Select inverter to be used from the pull down menus.
The Array Calculations box below will then give array parameters (string minimums, maximums and maximum parallel strings).
5. Enter the desired array configuration in the Array Design Options & Calculations box to determine the array specifications.
Voltage Drop
Note: All values associated with the array, calculated in the Voltage Drop spreadsheet are brought through from the String Sizing spreadsheet

DC Voltage Drop
The DC voltage drop calculator looks at both the PV source circuit sand PV output circuits separately. The PV source circuit is limited to a single string
and the output circuit can be multiple strings combined.
1. Choose the desired conductor material from the pull down list in the DC Voltage Drop box.
2. Choose desired wire size (AWG) from the pull down list in the DC Voltage Drop box.
3. Enter the one way distance of the PV Output Circuit from the DC combiner box to the inverter in the DC Voltage Drop box.
4. Enter the number of PV Output Circuits from the DC combiner box to the inverter in the DC Voltage Drop box.
Note: After completing the steps above, a minimum wire size will be suggested for the chosen array configuration and a calculated voltage drop will be
produced for the selected wire size and distance of the circuit. The voltage drop values are based on the array's Vmp at the average high temperature.

AC Voltage Drop
Note: The AC Voltage Drop box may be used for calculating the voltage drop of individual inverter Output Circuits or the Output Circuits of an AC
combiner panel, when properly used.
1. Choose the desired conductor material from the pull down list in the AC Voltage Drop box.
2. Choose desired wire size (AWG) from the pull down list in the AC Voltage Drop box.
3. Enter the one way distance of the Inverter/AC combiner panel Output Circuit from the source to the point of connection in the AC Voltage Drop
box.
4. Enter the number of inverters if being combined in parallel in the AC Voltage Drop box.
5. Select the output voltage phase of the desired Output Circuit in the AC voltage Drop box.
6. Select the output voltage from the pull down list for the desired Output Circuit in the AC voltage Drop box.
7. Enter the number of Output Circuit of the inverter/AC combiner panel in the AC voltage Drop box.
Note: After completing the steps above a minimum wire size will be suggested for the chosen array and design specifications, also a calculated voltage
drop will be produced for the selected wire size and distance of the circuit.

Performance
Note: All values associated with the array calculated in the Performance spreadsheet are brought through from the String Sizing and
Voltage Drop spreadsheets. Also note having both the String Sizing and Performance spreadsheets completely and accurately filled out will allow for a
more accurate performance calculation.
1. In the Performance Calculations box enter the measured cell temperature in Fahrenheit .
2. In the Performance Calculations box enter the measured Irradiance parallel to the module surface.
Note: After completing all steps above an approximate estimation of the arrays performance will be noticed at the bottom of the Performance
Calculations box. Also note there is a Celsius to Fahrenheit Converter in the Performance spreadsheet for cell temperature devices which measure
temperature in Celsius.
